i am very upset that these hard drives are not any use to me unless some ones explains to me how to use them in windows

i have bought two of these hard drives and i can't use them in a windows environment because the hard drive is set up to be combatable with the apple operating system not combatable with windows! I am tying to find out if i could use these brand new hard drives in the windows operating system if some one knows how to use these hard drives in windows please explain to me how ty ty Lire l'avis complet...

A very good unit.

Okay I have two XPS comps. about 2 years difference in age. Hard drive lasted about 4-5 years for each. This unit came a day earlier than scheduled which always impresses me. A good clean unit, popped right in, my youngest son(in his 20s) hooked it up. Loaded up the OS discs and back in business. Will this last as long? Who knows with electronics. Could go in 30 days, could last 5 years. Would I buy from FASTMOOSE again? You bet I would.Lire l'avis complet...

Very efficient hard disk, quick and a lot of space!!

First of all, this is my first 1TB hard drive, and I was quite thrilled when I opened the package and took a first look at it.

Secondly, I have only recently switched to SATA (yeah, I live in Mauritius, and I do not upgrade often).

When I first made up my PC, I of course used a SATA hard drive, 5O0GB. I had quite decent transfer rates with it, having a maximum of 20MB/s when sending to my external USB IDE hard drive.

However with this one, I'm having rates of up to 60MB/s when transferring to the same external USB IDE hard drive. Now, according to me, the tests are quite conclusive; of course I have not done extensive tests like the one you see on the Internet, but as a regular user who often transfers films, series, or others of the like, this hard disk is excellent!!

Of course, that was about the speed; I won't even talk mention the size; 1TB is really enormous (for now, of course; we all know what will happen in about 3-4 months :D). I'm at last able to free up disk space on my primary HD, and even a lot from the external one so I can better manage which data I'm carrying and which data I'm leaving fixed.

I don't know about heating ; I don't really monitor it and I don't even have an extra fan for the HD. I must also mention that I've connected the HD to a PCIe controller card; I don't know if it would be faster if it was directly on the motherboard, but I think it works great!!

So all in all, I would highly recommend people with needs like me to go ahead and buy it!!Lire l'avis complet...

Nice hard Drive for the price.

The hard drive was purchased used. My original one is just starting to fail. This is a nice replacement of the same original part number that was installed in my computer initially.

Lots of space, easy to use with external case.

I needed more space for my movies, games, and music so I went on ebay to look for a 1TB hard drive. I currently have it in an xtrastor external SATA hard drive enclosure. The drive fits sung in the enclosure and works exactly as promised. It was easy to format to NTFS and have had no problems so far. Great buy if you can find one used.Lire l'avis complet...

i use it to store movies, pictures, and documents. and it works like a charm, fast speed, just dont transfer to many things at once the drive gets overheated and will break down. i had one which i transfered too many things at once and it broke down. started getting blue screens, so now got a next one only transfered 50gb at a time seems to be running great.Lire l'avis complet...

Great Value, but not extremely reliable.

Once this Hard Drive arrived in the mail, I was eager to put it to use -- as my hard drive was already full from the shear size of the content video editing and gaming produces. It arrived sealed quite securely--however it did not have a SATA cable, which I had to go purchase for about $10 (if I recall correctly) from Radioshack. The price for this product was incredible, seeing that price -- I knew there were going to be some downsides. (Unsure if HDD specifically) When I have started to use it intensively it usually stops operating properly and loses connection with my computer, no longer showing up as a connected Hard Drive. It requires me to restart the computer to regain access to it. It is quite annoying, however -- most of my important data is stored on my OS Drive or on One Drive. Not designed for the long haul - four crashes in two years

This is the unit that came with my Dell Studio XPS 8100 i7 about 18 months ago. The original unit crashed within only a couple of months of new and while it was replaced under warranty by Dell, it still required a complete system rebuild.

I bought a second unit from Fry's Electronics and installed it as a RAID 1 (mirrored) disk. This solved the base problem of having to reinstall everything:

RAID works exactly as advertised. I know because one of the two NEW disks crashed a few months later. I am now getting S.M.A.R.T. error reports, with RAID telling me that one of the disks is again degrading, i.e., in the process of failing.

I'm buying - yet again! - ONE MORE Seagate drive just so I have a matched set; after this one, I'm both switching brands and getting a larger disk (I'm only using about 60% of the disks now), but most importantly, switching brands.

This will be FOUR of these units I've bought (not including the original) inside of two years.Lire l'avis complet...

Seagate 1TB ST31000528AS SATA HD is VERY QUITE AND FAST

Very nice hard drive, I had a 320GB(HITACHI) and a 500GB(WD) hard drives and I had them full so as soon I got the new 1TB drive I just Copied them both to the HD It went for 4 hrs copying files to the new ext4 Partition on the New Drive, worked like charm. The HD runs very quiet, It runs fast on Linux, and has tons of space, seems very reliable. So far a great experience with Seagate, thinking of getting a second one to make a MIRROR RAID with it :)Lire l'avis complet...

Works great: Critical to have Apple Startup Discs

Perfect match to the old drive and the mechanical swap was pretty easy.

Critical to have Apple Start-up disk , and to boot the machine from that drive. (In my case the cd-drive).

This will allow access to Disk Utilities, from there seemed to take a fresh 'erase' to make the new disk a 'recognizable' destination for the OS X install.Lire l'avis complet...
