Not fancy, but great for audiobooks.

This little player does not look like much, but I have not found a better mp3 player for audiobooks. I have owned several of these. They are great because it remembers where you stopped listening to an audiobook and asks if you want to resume or start over, even after you have switched to other tracks. If the the book is not labeled as an audiobook in the properties, however, it is placed in the music folder and this feature does not apply. I like that there is are separate music and audiobook folders. The controls are simple and intuitive. The player integrates data from the expansion slot easily into menus. Because the player only updates if you actually change something, the amount of time it take to turn on is short. Even given the information below, these players will take a lot of beating before you manage to kill them.

Cons, and the reason that I didn't give it five stars are:
-The buttons wear out easily. It gets difficult to turn the wheel eventually and the on/off switch gets hard to push if you don't have fingernails.
-The player randomly turns itself off. I have owned several of these players and this has occurred on all of them. Sometimes it turns itself off only minutes after you start listening. Most of the time this is only a minor annoyance and does not occur at high frequency.
-The play/pause button doesn't always function. You will hit the button, and the player will say that it has paused, but it keeps on playing like nothing happened. At this point I just turn the player of and on again and it starts working.

None of these cons have been enough to really make me hate the player, and to this point I have tried to upgrade to more fancy players (both other types of Sansa players as well as other brands) and I have not found another player that is as convenient, easy to use, and portable as this player is. If you read audiobooks this is a nice option.

Overall, this is a great player and much cheaper than the equivalent iPod.

I have bought two of these Sansa Fuze players, a refurbished one for myself, and a new one for a friend. Overall, I award pretty high marks. The only issue with mine is the headphone jack seems a little too deep, as I had to put a miniature washer on my headphone plug in order for it to make proper contact with the jack on the unit. Doesn't matter which set of phones I use, so I know the issue is with the player. All other features are great, though. The unit I bought for a friend works equally as well, but the issue with that one is that when I try to transfer music files from my library, the unit does not show up on the "To" side of the "Send To" menu. So you have to copy and paste, or use the complicated system outlined in the online manual.Lire l'avis complet...

Sansa Fuze; a good buy for most

Being sort of an anti I-pod guy I liked the fuze as a lower cost alternate. The color screen offers a good view with plenty of options.
I mostly listen to audio books and there are good features for that. It is exceptionally nice to have the expansion slot as I am able to keep several books in my wallet for easy transfer/access. I also liked the lower volume controls for listening to rosetta-stone while heading to bed.
The one thing I do not care for is the amount of holes and crevices for dust, dirt and water to get into. The lack of full body protection which covers the screen and controls is frustrating, I use a small zip lock bag.

Fuze a value priced winner

This is a lot of MP3 player for the money. It takes an SD micro-card so it can go to 16 GB of storage. I have all my music, all of the scriptures, and several audio books on mine with room to spare. The interface is a little cumbersome, it takes a lot of maneuvering to get what you want playing. I have yet to figure out how to make a play-list work. My seller sent it without software, but it uses Rhapsody, which is a free download as is the cryptic manual. I have bought two of these (a four and an eight GB), so I'm a repeat buyer. Obviously I'm pleased. I have yet to find one that gives me what I need for less. The battery lasts forever. I work on the docks and sweat profusely, it gets pretty beat up. I have never had a problem with it. I did have to reset the software and format the memory once when I first got it and was stuffing huge files on it. I was not using Rhapsody, just cut and pasting the files. I do put clear tape over the display screen. It is a tough little cookie. I'm getting ready to buy a third. Mine was recently stolen. When you are getting them for $45 instead of $250 that's less painful.Lire l'avis complet...

Great for music

I use this for mp3 and radio so I don't really have anything to say about the other features. The sound is beautiful, and I like the feature that tells me which song to expect next. I upgraded the system on Sansa's website, which I would recommend. It adds a sleep timer and slot radio function to the device for free. I've tried to add games through unofficial sites but have not yet had any luck with that. The device syncs well with Windows Media Player (I have Vista) and is pretty much drag and drop. I convert all my files to mp3 before syncing since that format works best. I would recommend this player to anyone who wants something simple yet high quality and okay with not having the fancy iPod name.Lire l'avis complet...

Very good player, but not sure it lasts.

I bought this Sansa Fuze to play audio books. It has good controls, although not as good as Rio. I used it a lot, and after about a year, it started to fail. It would just stop, and it started again after reset, but not at the current place. Still, it's the best mp3 audio book player I could find, so I ordered another one. Then, seeing that the design changed, I ordered yet another one of this design, because the newer models don't appear to be as good for audio books, in terms of control. We'll see how long the ones I just purchased last!

This seller is good.

Great quality product, I highly recommend.Easy to use!

I lost my SanDisk Sansa Fuze and as soon as I could I ordered a new one. They are so easy to use and you don't have to go through the hoops Ipod makes you do. I own both the Sansa Fuze and an Ipod 5th gen. and prefer the Sansa Fuze. The only reason I gave it a 4 rather than 5 under features is because the ear phones aren't the most comfortable for me. But I would say the same about Ipod's. Other than that I find it's a great product. The one I lost was several years old and still working great, so you get your money's worth. Overall I find this product an excellent buy.Lire l'avis complet...

Excellent for audiophile on a budget!

If you are an audiophile and you don't mind saving some money compared to higher-end media players, the SanDisk Sansa Fuze is exactly your ticket item!

==IF YOU JUST WANT A QUALITY MEDIA PLAYER FOR CHEAP (20-40 bucks), BUY A 2/4 GB MODEL==

Θ The Fuze is CHEAP! I paid just over 50 bucks for a like-new 8 GB model which included an extra charger for the car, a protective sleeve, and a screen protector. Compare to the used price for a Microsoft Zune 32GB (read further for why I mention this).

Θ It offers MUCH better sound quality than MP3s with FLAC support, and a better chipset compared to iPods for a cleaner, crisper sound.

Θ Micro SDHC support up to 32GB, so 40GB total available memory. A quality card (not one from eBay) retails for ~75 bucks now and will drop in price in the near future. THE MUSIC REFRESHES ONLY ONCE AFTER A LIBRARY CHANGE so start-up times stay quick. Add 1-4 GBs for only a few dollars!

Θ The interface is extremely fast! The wheel is much friendlier to use than a touch-type interface like with the Zune, just read the reviews. Screen size is slightly too small for movies/pictures.

Θ Battery life lasts me a full weeks worth of driving and general usage.

Θ Main bonus features (doing more than just playing music): Video/Pictures/Radio/Voice Recorder.

For audiophiles, extra EQ options can be had using Rockbox firmware. Overall, a 40 GB setup (8+32) in the near future can drop well below 100 bucks. Always do your research and find out if this media player works for you; no it doesn't have wireless capability with web browsing or a super fancy interface, but it works great as a simple music player!

Best value for the money I can find with little to no difficulty in use

If you are looking for an easy to use, long lasting MP3 then you should get one of these. The design is simple and incredibly easy to learn to use. The rotary wheel at the center flips through menu options efficiently and without lagging, but just fast enough where it doesn't take going back and forth multiple times to get to one option. The battery life is good for a player like this; I use mine all day. You can adjust the settings to make it last as long as you need it to. The sound quality is great and give s you equalizer options. The ability to expand memory with an SDCard is great; i have the 8 GB paired with a 32 GB card. It is made of half plastic and half metal and is just the right weight to keep in a pocket comfortably. It is smaller than most cell phones too. I technically downgraded from a Fuze+ to this but believe me, the Fuze+ is a piece of crap; the design of the new Fuze+ is awful and the software, while upgradeable is too slow and difficult to use. For the regular Fuze, there are no more updates and the capacity only goes up to 8GB, but the software itself is light years ahead the Fuze+ and an SDCard can easily expand memory. The only thing that i would count as a con is that the connecter to a computer/laptop is a proprietary one so try not to lose the one that is included with the product in the box!Lire l'avis complet...
