Stylish Yet Repetative

While the game boasts plenty of style in its visuals, soundtrack and of course its featured playable characters from the series, it is truly a hack n' slash game at the end of the day. There aren't any kinds of additive elements to the combat or character development other than buying new swords or "records" (which dictate the combos the character can use & change the background music of whatever stage you're playing through.)
The combos are usually not all that lengthy, and consist of using the same 2 buttons, heavily relying on button mashing the Square button. Different swords vary in resistance (the more you use it, the more its endurance level drops until it breaks). Swords do change in appearance, which is interesting, but not enough so to attract very much attention after you get right into battle and back to the button mashing.
The story modes for each of the 3 playable characters, one of which you must unlock, are all pretty linear. No branching side-quests, you just go through the game in "Episodes". You can always revisit an old episode and replay through the stage. A crippling flaw in the game is the lack of file-Save accessibility. You have to wait until you complete an entire stage until you can save, and at times they can feel a bit lengthy and time consuming. So, if you have to leave in the middle of playing, you can either leave it running till you return or just turn it off and re-do everything you already did.
Boss fights are fun and require some minor strategy, nothing over the top. The game wins on generally being enjoyable, flashing blue streaks across the screen when a slash connects. Visuals of Hyper Mode (a fast paced slashing frenzy your character can attain during battle) and Tate Mode (seeing the silhouette of your character and opponents against a Japanese style door, you slash at foes while having limited Hit Points (3-4) and for reaching 100 kills during this mode, you can unlock some items depending on what episode you're in) are a cool, creative blend of color and style.
The game has a simple counter system based on timed button pressing, which is cool becomes it induces a slowed state of movement in the game. You are given a button selection screen between the 4 main buttons and must quickly press them before the timer during these slowed down counter modes expires). Deflecting attacks can be used with the O button. This must also be timed and often tends to not seem to be the greatest method, though if used mid-combo against numerous enemies, one can master timing enough to take little to no damage during combat. But..that will probably take a lot of practice in this game.

The game is truly meant for fans of the series. If a stylish and fun button-mashing game without heavy plot relevance is what you want, this is a game for you. People looking for a good Samurai game should turn away from here and move towards the Way of the Samurai series.Lire l'avis complet...

Samurai Champloo: Sidetracked PS2

Made by the same developer that made Killer 7 and Contact, Grasshopper made a decent effort in portraying the world of Samurai Champloo. Being it is a video game of the popular Tv series there is are a few things worth mentioning. The blood is fun and plentiful, and it is all about style in fighting. The soundtrack concept gives a unique feel however is counterintuitive in nature to the jaded gamer since tracks dictate your fighting style. Over all if your as into the story as much as the gameplay you will not be dissapointed. If your looking for in depth gameplay this is not your game, but there is a fun hack and slash factor you get from the game.Lire l'avis complet...

Haven't had the time to play it much. I have played through the 1st stage, and it's been great so far. This is a Suda51 game, so if you've played any of their games, unfortunately, this feels exactly the same. As a matter of fact, there was a section I ran into that was exactly the same as this one stage in No More Heroes. I love the 3D renderings of the characters. This game is pretty awesome. The graphics on the intro to the game are amazing!

The graphics are great and the characters played their own voices except Mugen sounded a little different. Can play Either Jin or Mugen and each with their trademark styles. Yeap, if you love Samurai Champloo the anime ,one will love this game too.Excellent graphics and the dubbs are great !!!The music is as cool as it gets.

The game was sealed but the disc was loose. Other than that it still works.
