SALEMS LOT IS TERRIFYING!

The story centers around a low population of residents who are being transformed into vampires in a quiet New England village. The Marsten House has a reputation in town for being haunted, and sits alone up on top of a hill outside from the village. It is inside the Marsten House where the vampires seek their shelter during daylight. This is unknown to the residents in town. Author Ben Mears (David Soul) once had a frightening experience as a child inside the Marsten House, and has returned to SALEMS LOT several years later to write a book about it. There have been quite a few vampire films, and I have seen quite a few. In my opinion this mini-series made for television still ranks among the very best. Most of the scenes are quite shocking without ever being gruesome. SALEMS LOT relied more on shock, and suspense which makes me realize why it has held up so well. The Nosferatu looking vampire is truly terrifying. In my opinion, this is the best looking vampire in any vampire film. Director Tobe Hooper has done a wonderful job directing David Soul, James Mason, Bonnie Bedelia, and Reggie Nalder as Mr. Barlow.Lire l'avis complet...

From The Mind Of One Of The Greatest Author's Ever.

This is one of Stephen King's Movie adaptions they didn't screw up. It is scary for T.V. and the story line is excellent. I first watched it when I was 7 and believed it was terrifying. I still believe some of the scenes will make you jump. I just watched it last night and forgot about those creepy scenes. I love the original Salem's Lot made for TV movie! I remember watching this as a kid in 1979. David Soul and Lance Kerwin were the best!! Even though special effects have definitely improved since 1979, the suspense still caught me by surprise. It was awesome!! I watched it twice and now my sister has it. She was a huge David Soul fan.

excellent vampire movie

I originally saw this movie when I was around 6, but I still find it scary over 40 years later. the story line was great and the special fx for the time were pretty good. I'd recommended it to anyone who like a good vampire horror movie.Lire l'avis complet...

Movie was excellent! Took me back to my childhood and when I first saw it.

This is to me one of the best vampire movies ever made. No real special effects, just classic horror at it's best. A Gem to own & watch.

Salem's Lot DVD

I remember thinking David Soul was pretty lame when this came out. This many years later, I didn't let that influence me. Since it is a TV movie it is kind of tame. There are some truly creepy moments. There is also some really bad acting. Soul is kind of stiff. Hunter's attempt to create suspense comes off as drawn out sometimes. The townspeople vampires are much scarier than the main vampire. All in all it is a fun movie to watch though.

The DVD picture quality is not bad. Since it is a TV movie, we get the full screen version. Unfortunately, there are no extras, other than the theatrical trailer for the international release. Audio is mono.

I gave this 4 stars because of lack of any special features. If you are into that sort of thing, get the blu ray. It has audio commentary by Tobe Hunter. If you just want to watch the movie, this is a fine version.Lire l'avis complet...

Salem's Lot

When David Soul returns to the small New England town of Jerusalem's Lot, people begin dropping like flies. Even in the movie you'll notice from the beginning how the streets are quiet. This, to me, was the best movie from a book by Stephen King. It really scared me when I read the novel and then it didn't disappoint me when I saw the movie. The film centers around a suave antiques dealer (James Mason) who's knowledge goes way beyond bric-a-brac. Mason's partner is a vampire (no mention of him being "Dracula")....who wants to drain the whole town of blood before moving on. The spookiest sight is that old house. When the kid, Lance Kerwin, is walking in it by himself I got huge goosebumps! The make-up job on the vampire was enough to give me nightmares. Bonnie Belinda plays Soul's love interest, who gets captured near the end and never makes it out. That makes for a second movie, which never did catch on. Well, it's hard to keep the undead down,....but a good fire might!. Last scene is of Soul and Kerwin leaving town on their own....last ones left. Salem's Lot DVD

This movie was quite scary the first time my wife and I watched it together. One of the earlier Stephen King stories I remember and Tobe Hooper did a great job directing. The vampires were particularly eerie looking, resembling the original Nosferatu vampire and at the time I had not seen anything like this for a TV mini-series. Good acting with a good cast (James Mason, David Soul, Bonnie Bedelia and Reggie Nalder was especially good). I'm a big horror/Sci-Fi fan with several hundred home movies and this will be a welcome addition.Lire l'avis complet...

This is the greatest "Made For TV Movie" ever!

It clocks in around 3 hours as it was originally a miniseries but it does not seem like it at all. It is a great film that builds the suspense and horror as it goes. Great characters, great make up and effects, and strong acting tie it all together. This is the best looking vampire effect in any film, EVER!

This movie scared the crap out of me as a kid and I still love it to this day. If you scare easily, pass this one by BUT if you want a good scare...buy this movie, turn down the lights, pop the corn, pull up the blanket and get ready to have your lady strangle you in fear for the next three hours.
