Rock Band for the PS3

I started with Rock Band 2 on the Wii. It worked quite well, but did not have much support (of the 600 songs available, less than 25% were available to buy for the Wii). Also, the 'cool' controllers (Rock Axe, Drum Rocker, etc) were not yet available for the Wii.

I picked up an older PS3 and ordered this game to see how it compares to the Wii version. On the plus side, many more songs are available to purchase. It works pretty much like the Wii version. I also got Guitar Hero World Tour; in my opinion Rock Band 2 is more playable than GH.

First of all, the background graphics for Rock Band seem 'better' than those in Guitar Hero. More lifelike in appearance and movement, and more different actions. I find the 'bars' in RB to be easier to index than the 'circles' in GH, and the special notes seem to be easier to distinguish in RB than they are in GH. GH has better play for the bass and drums (6 notes rather than 5 in RB). That is why I prefer Rock Band 2 over Guitar Hero World Tour, but of course Rock Band is the one I started on and am most used to.

So how does the PS3 version of Rock Band 2 stack up? Pretty much the same, with a couple of annoyances. As mentioned, the song and controller support is better for the PS3 version. There are 2 annoyances though. In many of the songs, the audiance sings along with the band. Perhaps this is 'more realistic', but it does make the song sound 'muddy'. And the PS3 network which you must sign up for to use many of the features of the game requires much more information to set up, and work to access. In the latter case, it appears that you can set it up to log on 'automatically', at the cost of saving your password in the console.

Great title but maybe not the best for everyone

When I opened Rock Band 2 I had high expectations that it would be the band game of all band games. As I dove into the game I found the trophies to be an awesome addition to the game and the world tour was great. The song selection not so great. Yes it has some good ones but not all are that good. I have about 6 hours in and its been a fun 6 hours but my complaints are these.

It has a no fail mode but it doesnt save where as Guitar Hero has a beginner level where you just have to get the beat correct. This is great if you have a small child who wants to play too.

Guitar Hero has a tug of war competition against legendary figures but to this point I havent had that opportunity in Rock Band

Dont get me wrong I will continue to play both but if you are looking for a great song selection in addition to smooth game play I would suggest going with Guitar Hero

IF you are looking for trophies and vast song selection and deeper rewards then Rock Band is your baby

Great Sequel, With Some Quirks

Overall, Rock Band 2 is a fantastic game that I'd immediately recommend to anyone that enjoyed the first game, or anyone who's interested in picking this type of game up for the first time. It's got a great base song set, (about 80 tracks in all, with a code for 20 more free) but sometimes suffers from songs that seem as though they were just sort of "thrown in" as filler.
Gameplay is about what you'd expect from RB, with flashy menus that can be a bit tedious to navigate at times but that do not detract overall from the experience. My only major complaint is that the in-song screen's graphics seem a bit stretched, with numbers and text sometimes appearing a bit out of proportion.

Rock Band 2 Rocks!

Awesome game. It could have been just an update of RB1 because, although you get more music, it really expands on the functionality of RB1. I really like the fact that each band member can choose a tune instead of just the band leader choosing tunes. The band challenges are a neat feature as well. There is enough on the local game side of things to keep you interested for while but to really get the full advantage of the game go online.

As an adult player of RB2 I do find it a bit annoying that in most of the online quickplay bands the kids only want to play the few tunes that are on the Impossible list (the extreme tunes) and not enjoy some of the more melodic tunes. I may start looking to Facebook to either create or join an adult RB group to find more adults to play with online.

I would recommend paying the $5 to get the RB1 tunes imported into RB2. Great game. Overall I highly recommend this game to anyone interested in having a great time either locally or online.

Fast delivery, thanks Dude, buy rock band in Russia is very difficult

Rock Band 2 has some great elements that have been a long time coming. However, the format for actually playing the music is the same as the old ones. In my opinion, just stick with what you have and download songs you actually want.

There are some very cool pros, though:
You can change difficulty, drop out, and even switch your options on the fly.
When you pause the game, it "rewinds" the track a bit so you don't jump right back into it and mess up.
You can already tell there is a load of new things to do and buy.
You can rate songs now.
The format of the game is different. You can go after goals, do the good old road tour, or do things in a myriad of different ways.
Pro mode seems very cool, although for hardcore folks who modded a digital kit, that's already been around.

More complex, interesting than its predecessor...

This game has more complex situations... hiring band members, doing charity gigs, non-stop sets. The aim is to take you through the nitty gritty of bands - its pretty interesting. It goes far beyond what Rock Band 1 did. There are some great new song additions - and some total bums - what were they thinking with some of the trash? All in all, we're glad to have it. It is a family favorite.Lire l'avis complet...

A great sequel to an already great original title.

A great sequel to the original. This title is my favorit of the Rock Band games, and has a great setlist. If you own the first title and you liked it, than you will definitely like this one. The gameplay seems to be another more fluid than its predecessor and the graphics are amped up too. The career mode is a lot of fun and can take a little while to finish completely. The online multi player is one of the greatest online experiences in the history of online playing, and one of the best video game experiences period. A lot of fun and every one should really get into this title.Lire l'avis complet...

Rock Band Rules. Get It!!!!!!!!!!

Harmonix launched music games into a whole new arena with the release of Rock Band last year. No longer did music games have to be about just playing the drums or the guitar or singing. All three elements were merged together into a cohesive and thoroughly enjoyable package. But while Rock Band was a breath of fresh air, it did have some issues. With the release of Rock Band 2 less than a year after the original, Harmonix addresses many of the past concerns and adds an awesome new online mode, certain to keep gamers rockin' for another year.

The biggest addition isn't a new feature or function, but 84 new songs. All master tracks, these 84 songs represent the single greatest collection of songs in a game to date. Headlining the new tracks is the first Guns N' Roses single in more than a decade, "Shackler's Revenge." Along with these are a slew of incredible songs that span the '60s right up to today. AC/DC, Metallica, The Talking Heads, Pearl Jam, Journey, Megadeath, Modest Mouse, Rage Against the Machine, Bon Jovi, Jane's Addiction -- I could keep going, but you get the point. There are some brilliant songs here. And while there are going to be a few tracks each person will not care for, there's far more good here than bad.
