Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code

I enjoyed this book. Mind you Dan Brown is not a good author, nor is he very creative. Dan Brown actually borrowed an awful lot of information from another source which he did not site or give any credit (because the book is fictional). If you were to read any of Dan Brown's other books (digital fortress, angels and demons, etc.) you will find the exact same type of story with all the same foreshadowing and you will be able to figure out what happens at page 75. If you did not read his other books and are just in for a good story than THIS IS A GREAT NOVEL. I rate it good because I genuinely enjoy the story and the characters. Unfortunately there are people that think that there are hidden facts about christianity and the bible within the pages of this fictional story. While there are some, that I found very interesting, there are just as many fabricated dates and imposed opinions of real people. Read the book because it is a good story....Lire l'avis complet...

The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown

While The Da Vinci Code is a work of fiction. And yes the book does contain errors of such that religious scholars are raking it over the coals. I have no problem seeing this as fiction, maybe others do, even so, I have an open mind. I have watched the Ten Commandments probably a dozen times or more. The only thing I haven’t been able to figure out is how that Albino monk is badly beaten in the Marseilles harbor and later finds shelter in Andorra. Andorra is a small country perched on top of the Pyrenean Mountain range, hundreds of miles from any harbor, he said later that the beating happened in Marseilles. It’s as if I had runaway from Key West, Fla. and arrived in Mexico City a few hours later without a boat. Fact is Dan Brown has done extensive searching. There are plenty of people that agree with the vision of history and events described in The Da Vinci Code. In defense of Brown's research, he is a writer first of all, not a historian or theologian. he is not a heretic who thought up the concepts he describes. His explanations and depictions of history and the ancient societies that are featured in the book I believe to be as accurate as possible.
I have enjoyed the DVD and the book.
I am looking forward to receiving the Da Vinci and the Code He Lived By.
I’m sure an interesting documentary from the History Channel.

This Book was an interesting read!

The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, was a great Read. I guess, I found it so intriguing because I love puzzles. I loved how solving one puzzle led to another. I read through it quick and was disapointed when it was over. I enjoyed the information that he included, like the divine order. If people see this BOOk as a threat, I would say they are very simple minded. If a person has a strong belief in their faith, this book would never give enough power to persuade them otherwise. Its just a Novel, a good read. It doesnt replace the BIBLE in any way. This book is no different from any other book. Also the subject is of one thats been around for years, its nothing new!

I liked the book and I recomend it to anyone that likes mystery stories.

Enjoyable Story

I avoided reading the Da Vinci Code for a long time because of all the hype surrounding it.I finally gave in however and borrowed a copy from some one. I considered the book to be an action mystery story and I wasn't dissapointed. I found the story entertaining and interesting. While it wasn't the most exciting story I have ever read I would still recomend it to anyone who enjoys a good mystery. I have since bought and read other books by Dan Brown and have enjoyed all of them. I enjoy reading fictional mystery stories and this was a good one. If I was looking for history I would have purchased a textbook instead. I'm sure the authors intent was to make money and all of the controversy that people continue to make up about this story only adds to his bottom line. Good for you Mr. Brown.Lire l'avis complet...

The Da Vinci Code Book Review Must Read

While studying art history at the University of Seville in Spain, Dan Brown learned of the mysteries hidden in Da Vinci’s paintings. Years later while researching at the Vatican Secret Archives, Brown was once again captivated by the Da Vinci enigma. He arranged a trip to the Louvre Museum to view Da Vinci’s original paintings. With the help of an art historian to understand the paintings, he researched further and wrote the novel ‘The Da Vinci Code’ which became an other one of his best sellers but with more success this time.
Dan Brown is one of the most popular suspense writer of our age. His books are full of suspense and The Da Vinci Code is no exception. His books are one of the most popular ones and anyone who talks about Brown knows that he is talking about a suspense writer, a ‘Shakespeare’ of suspense novels.
His three other books were also best sellers and all of them put the characters‘ lives in danger and they have to fight for their lives. The Da Vinci Code is the sequel to Brown’s previous book ‘Angels and Demons’ which has a similar setting to The Da Vinci Code and with the same main character: Robert Langdon.
Robert is a Harvard University teacher and he teams up with Sophie Neveu, a born cryptologist, in a breathless race from Paris to London and beyond finding clues on the way to get the secret that Sophie’s father, a member of the Priory of Sion has tried to pass on to her, before dying from a gunshot, while keeping it from the wrong hands. The secret has been guarded for centuries by the Priory’s members which includes Sir Isaac Newton, Victor Hugo and other famous geniuses. The suspicion of the murder of the curator (Sophie’s father) falls on Robert and so he has to escape the police and the Opus Dei ( a Vatican sanctioned Catholic sect) with Sophie and at the same time uncover the secret.
This book is simply put as a must-read and you should be borrowing or buying a copy right now! It has gut-wrenching suspense that has been never experienced before with astonishing revelations and twists in the plot. This book will appeal to almost all mature minded people (not children but teenagers and above). It is a novel which can be read time and again and people can actually sit down and interpret it from different people’s viewpoints.
As this book is full of suspense I feel that there should be a bit of ‘breathing room’ for readers as the story keeps revealing astonishing points of the plot which puts you right back into the book and you don’t feel like putting it down and even if you do manage to put the book down you can’t stop speculating ideas in your mind about the book. it’s a god thing that it is hard to explain the books plot and conclusion to someone so you don’t have to give away ‘spoilers‘. I haven't told you anything except what the book is about as I don't want to spoil your fun. Better buy it.

The Da Vinci Code paperback book

I read the book when it first came out and have waited for it to come out in paperback so I could put a copy in my persoanl library. Once the book came out in paperback, I noticed that retailers were marking the price up considerably. I searched ebay and found it for a very good price. I have since read it again and the story is compelling and attention getting. If someone is interested in a good mystery and/or dramatic story, this is the book for them. The story is about murder, hidden messages, and conspiracy. For the avid reader, this book will hold you spellbound until the exciting ending. However, I do not recommend it for anyone that is faint of heart or extremely emotional as the story does include some greusome moments and very tramatic scenes.Lire l'avis complet...

The only mystery is how did this book get so popular.

Well, I like good fiction and fiction based on fact and reality can be very close to reality and very intriguing. To quote from the book "Sophie gunned the SmartCar into the rotary" just epitomizes this author's lack of experience and depth. You can't do that with a SmartCar! James Bond's Aston Martin, yes, but not a SmartCar. When I read this overblown statement relatively early in the book, it strongly indicated to me how contrived this story was going to be. Unfortunately, my suspicions were confirmed.

The book is a cheap commercial exploitation from start to finish. For eample, the author, Brown, has Bishop Aringarosa flying around Europe in a chartered turboprop, but at the end of Chapter 63, the Bishop is said to be travelling in a Beechcraft Baron 58, which is a piston-engined aircraft, very different in performance. This is a straight-forward technical issue, but if these kind of facts are presented inaccurately, what kind of research should we expect for the more central issues of the book.

The situations the characters are placed in, the manner and methods used to save them from the difficulties they face are not earned by the characters. There is no true mystery or real suspense, the reader is repeatedly dealt solutions, which too conveniently move the story to the next stage with minimal surprise or intrigue. Teabing the Teacher? to use my kids expression....duh! This is no Bourne Conspiracy.

I have extreme difficulty in calling this a satisfying read. It is constructed as though the writer had a movie set in his mind, which I guess he did, based on the box office success of this movie. It does not deserve that level of success and I would not expect it to become required reading for the academic either. It is amazing to me that it has developed the level of attention that it has.

Fiction and Lies!

The best part of the Da Vinci Code is that it is a quick read. The story moves quickly. As a history buff/Catholic Church History buff, Brown distorts the History of the Church which he claims are "facts." He paints Opus Dei in a poor light. Opus Dei is a tremendous organization and has helped hundreds and thousands of people around the world improve their purpose in life and strengthen their faith, Catholic Christian, or non-Christian. There are by the way no such things as "Opus Dei Monks." To be a monk is contrary to what Opus Dei is all about, santifying your life through work.

Millions of people have read this book and if you're reading this review, you probably will too. I strongly suggest reading another book called "The Da Vinci Hoax" either before or after you read this book. A google of the title or a search on Amazon will bring you to this book. It refutes every claim of Browns with real facts from real historians and scholars.

I bought this book because I am a teacher of the Catholic Christian faith and I get a lot of questions regarding the book. So I read it for "street cred."

Good reading!

THE DA VINCI CODE BY DAN BROWN

I say that I like to read, but the truth is I haven't found a book to hold my interest in years to want to finish it. I ran across this book in my thrift shop. I have never seen the movie and decided to read a few pages just to see what it was about. THAT WAS IT! I could not put it down. I figured something to read in between customers or when it was slow. I found myself sitting home in the evening wishing I would have brought the book home with me.

Very hard to put down once you start reading it. Interesting, intriguing, and thrilling. I loved every minute of this book. I can see why everyone was in an uproar of controversy, but it is a novel. A fiction novel. Take it for what it is and read it with an open mind. Very thought-provoking.

If you pick up one book this year, make it this one. It has actually sparked my interest in reading again that has been dead, so to speak, for years.

Angels and Demons and The Davinci Code, by Dan Brown

I thought i had better read Angels and Demons first, i like to read things in order, i had been sent the Davinci code on hardback and was looking forward to reading it. Angels and Demons, what a load of rubbish, it seemed to me the characters were terrible, the lead character jumping out of a helicopter clutching a piece of cloth working out the mathematics in his head, give me a break, even Arnie in Commando was more convincing, i was expecting to be dazzled by Dan Brown and Angels and Demons, i was not, dodgy characters who were very unbelievable and i felt it never picked up pace or went anywhere where i was left wondering what was going to happen next, i wasnt that interested to find out either, i did soldier on and finish the book, overall....poor. Next was the Da Vinci code, obviously i was expecting big things although i was hoping he had developed the main character in a more believable and convincing light, which to be fair he had, now i really struggled to get into this book, every page seemed to be a chore, it took me about a year to read after picking up some Robert Ludlum books, eventually i was determined to finish this ' best seller', this time around the pages turned slightly quicker and i did quite like the story, raised some interesting questions but i still was not totally immersed in Dan Browns reality, i found the twists and turns extremely transparent and not very surprising, it does seem i am in the minority as it seems to be Dan Brown fever everywhere, perhaps i have simply read a lot of better books?, Ludlum, Tolkien, King, Cornwell, Hutson, these ladies and Gents simply beat the pants off Dan Browns novels. My current books are the Harry Potter books, makes good reading and is more believable than Dan Brown!Lire l'avis complet...
