Avonlea is a Hit!!!

I bought this DVD because it is an episode of the award winning series Road To Avonlea. This was originally broadcast on the Disney Channel and CBC in the 1980's and early 90's. It is a little like Little House On The Prairie, except with a Canadian flair. The idea for the show came from the Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea writer Lucy Maude Montgomery. It's about Sarah Stanley, a motherless child who comes to live with her mothers' relatives on Prince Edward Island in the late 1800's. Sarah has to adapt, as she is used to living in Montreal with her rich father, who is now being investigated for wrongdoing with his company. This is why she is sent away.
Sarahs' PE Island relatives live a completely different lifestyle. Now she is expected to do chores and work on a farm.

This particular episode finds Sarah balking at her Aunt Hetty's ways. She decides to run away after she meets some who looks like her and offers to take her place. This proves to be quite interesting for both young girls. It is both humerous and poignant.

This series is noteworthy, too, for being the first acting job for Sarah Polley, who plays Sarah Stanley. She is an up-and-coming actress in Hollywood at this time.
