Rio Bravo (2001, DVD)

Rio Bravo, one of a trilogy of movies (along with El Dorado and Rio Lobo) written by Leigh Brackett, produced by Howard Hawks, and staring John Wayne. Each has the same basic plot with just the actors and setting changed. In this one, Wayne as Sheriff John T Chance, aided by a drunken deputy (Dean Martin), a crippled jailer (Walter Brennan), and the son of a tough lawman (Ricky Nelson) fight to keep a prisoner locked up till the judge can arrive. Angie Dickinson provides a romantic interest for Wayne. In a departure from other Wayne films, the principal actors get together in a sing along including Wayne, something he hasn't done since his very early days in westerns. The storyline, while repetative, is a tried and successful one. The actors mesh well and give fine performances. All in all, not a bad way to spend an hour and a half or so.Lire l'avis complet...

The Old West with Alittle Bravo Rio ... Kids

Rio Bravo is great western ever made. I saw as little and I wanted to be John Wayne and fight bad guys. John Wayne is at his best in Rio Bravo and you just got like Ricky Nelson as a young gun slinger and Angie Dickinson, is beauty to look at. A great movie from director, Howard Hanks in 1956. John Wayne, Dean Martin and Ricky Nelson vs. Bad Guys in the Old Days

Classic 1959 Duke Wayne western fare, directed by the great Howard Hawks, wherein Wayne is sheriff in a small southwest Texas town. He arrests a murderous bad guy, who happens to have a well connected brother, a big business / gang leader. So forces are out to free the bad guy, but they are held off by Wayne and his interesting bad of helpers - gimpy Walter Brennan who guards the office/jail, recovering alcoholic but crack gunman Dean Martin as an ex-deputy who is re-deputized, and Ricky Nelson as Colorado Ryan, a 21 year old gunslinger. Dean and Ricky sing a duet! Ancillary characters are the sheriff's ex-lover Angie Dickinson who comes to town and helps the cause, Ward Bond, always a part of the Duke's stable of actors as an old pal who comes to town and wants to help out, Gonzalez Gonzalez as the saloon owner, who helps out, and a big wagon full of dynamite which helps out eventually. Worth it if you love westerns like I do.

Dean Martin did a good job of acting but Ricky Nelson was too young and boyish to be in this western and that is why he did not have a big role. It is not a favorite of mine but I will keep it in my collection.Lire l'avis complet...

Awesome western, action, romance and great music.

I love this movie,it is my favorite John Wayne movie and the price was great. The DVD was brand new and the seal was not broken and the quality of the DVD was excellent, a great buy.

Western packed with famous actors

This is my favorite Western. Packed with bad guys, good guys, and the girl that hooks up with the Sheriff. John Wayne, Walter Brennan, Dean Martin, and teen idol Ricky Nelson will keep you attached to the screen until the movie is over. Ricky Nelson and Dean Martin in a duet after the sun sets, kicked back singing one of Ricky Nelson's teen songs.

Highly recommended movie that should be added to any movie collection. John Wayne in one of his best leading roles as Sheriff that has to protect a killer in the jail until the Marshall comes.Lire l'avis complet...

Sands of Iwo jima.

I would very much recommend this western starring John, the Duke Wayne, also, I am a big fan of John Wayne military movies.
