amazing.

i first played this game when i was in 8th grade. from the second the cinematics came on, i was HOOKED. no other game (aside from Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain) has ever drawn me in to the point where i genuinely felt afraid for the characters life as if i feared for my own. no game has this much atmosphere, a plot which captures you entirely and doesn't let go. i'd read advertisements, revues, studied the back of the game case for a while (not having a playstation until i was in 8th grade, buying it would have been quite useless. i've since beaten this game, the 2nd, 3rd, & code veronica. i'm waiting to send payment for a ps2 and looking forward to conquering RE4.

this is the closest to being in a B-movie as many of us can ever hope to come. this may be my favorite in the series so far, due to the actual human cinematics. the setting (a clean, nice looking mansion) makes the monsters & gore all the more shocking. i'll put it like this: you see a piece of fecal matter on the ground shocking? no. you see some on some fine china. with some parsley on the side for presentation. shocking? i'd say so. maybe i'm just assuming you don't see poop on a plate often.

ANYWHO, the graphics are very good for '96 (especially considering the trade in we had to endure, trading in graphics for a 3d game.) the controls (though awkward for some) are spot-on.

the music is perfect, creating a foreboding atmosphere. crisp, clean suspense. the sierra mist of video games. the sound effects are excellent; from the tapping claws of cerberus on stone, to the heavy impending doom sound of the footsteps of the hunter: all brilliantly clear & distinct.

now as for the game itself: you can play as one of two characters, both of which are members of the raccoon city S.T.A.R.S. team. jill valentine & chris redfield. your alpha team is sent in to investigate the disappearance of the bravo team, who were investigating the bizarre deaths in the area of the arclay mountains.

as for weaponry OHHHHHH BABY. the standard handgun, shotgun, bazooka, flamethrower, magnum, rocket launcher.. all with enough ammo to blast your way through any advancing horde... barely. the name of the game is conservation. you run through your ammo supply on zombies you're screwed. there are much bigger, much MEANER things to come. CONSERVE. you use medicinal herbs (ahem) to heal. also you can find first-aid spray, though it reduces your overall score at the end of the game.

lots of characters to meet, mysteries to solve, items to collect, puzzles to beat, monsters to mangle, places to explore. this game is huge. worth every cent you have to pay. TWELVE BONGS UP!!!

The original that kick started one of the greatest survival horror series!

While the "tank" controls take some getting used to, this game is a classic! One of the main games that started the "survival horror" genre in video games and launched a series of titles that are still running today! The game play is fun, the story compelling, and always leaves you wondering what is waiting around the corner. If you like survival horror games, and have still not played this game, you are doing yourself a disservice by not getting it and playing it now!Lire l'avis complet...

One of the best PS1 games of all time.

First played as a kid in the 90's. Held up pretty well. Don't worry if you get stuck, as there are a few great walk throughs online. Could have used one back then. If you're new to the game, take my advice and play as Jill. Chris is more for the advanced player.

Oh, and remember; if you want the original experience don't buy the Directors cut. It replaced the original score with a horrible one. Pretty sure that's the version you'll be getting if you buy the upcoming PS classic so watch out.

Resident Evil Original Playstation Longbox

I love this game, it was the first of its kind to spark such controversy for a zombie game that includes horror/action/suspense/puzzle. Can be challenging and easy. Game has a great plot, betrayal/survival. Game play was simple so it was easy to pick up and play for anyone! You use multiple weapons to defeat the many variety of bosses and creatures/monsters cause by a virus, (T Virus), that turns people into zombies or undead for animals. Blood, gun action, running, adventure, puzzle solving, and scares await for those who decide to play the game that sparked the Resident Evil movies series and over 20 Resident Evil games.Lire l'avis complet...

Best survival horror game

I have had this game back in 1997 and it was like a revolution in horror video games history, you feel the real horror when you fighting zombies and other creatures. I still enjoy resident evil although it's been released 20 years ago, I hope that Capcom make the old school resident evil, nowadays resident evil series is more like to adventure than to survival horror Lire l'avis complet...

A great historical survival horror classic!!!

This is the Resident Evil game that started it all. It revolutionized the Survival Horror genre. The one thing this version has over the Director's Cut is that the music is better and it's collector's item because it is the first entry of the Resident Evil series.Lire l'avis complet...

Where the Whole Series Began...

Resident evil has always been my favorite video game series. the first game is what drew me to the games. the original first one one (not duo shock or directors cut) is a classic and hard to find. it includes a cool b & w cinema intro, some great music and a solid storyline. the graphics are kind of outdated of course, but still not too bad for a ps 1. also the voice acting is pretty bad at time (just listen to Barry remarks is enough to get you ill) overall a great game. (if you want a challenge, get the original long box one as the others ones are kind of too easy....Lire l'avis complet...

If you can look past its age its a true survival horror experience.

The one that started it all. Love this game. I'm glad i bought this version which is available also in the small jewel case. I recommend this long box version to collectors and newcomers alike. Its a bit more difficult than the directors cut and Japanese version but not unbearable. The enemies in the original take more damage and items such as ammo are more scarce. My only complaint is the Japanese version and pal being uncut (but its only a couple of cutscenes, still same game) and we got the slightly watered down version. Some bad things- its very outdated its a game from 1996 duh. Its not for everyone. Controls and some animations will take some getting used to if you never played. The voice acting is awesomely bad its just hilarious you'll see. It is a great game from its time overall and one of my top 5 resident evil games.Lire l'avis complet...
