PGR4 - Good arcade racer

PGR4 is a good game, but there are a few things holding it back from being a great one.

[+]
Excellent graphics
Great sense of speed
Kudos system makes every turn count in some fashion<br>Motorcycles are fun and easy to control
Easy to pick up and play
Works great with xbox steering wheel
Good customization

[-]
Not nearly as many vehicle options as in Forza 2
Motorcycles can make the game almost too easy
For an arcade style sim, cars still tend to spin out of control a lot

Overall, I recommend PGR4 only behind Forza 2 as far as the racing experience on the xbox 360 goes. If you're looking for an arcade style, jump in the saddle and play type of racer, you can't go wrong with PGR4, but if you want the answer to Sony's Gran Turismo on your 360, get Forza 2.

7.5/10

A lot of times, racing games can get lost in the mix of the 1000s of other games just like it. However, PGR4 sets itself apart with a little bit different interface and the fact that a sizable portion of the game has been devoted to bikes. This point, however, brings up another quite frustrating point: unless the race that you are in involves only bike opponents you are doomed to lose as the bikes (while quite powerful) just cannot keep up with the plethora of supercars.

I like this game, but it's not one of my favorites. It's menu setup is confusing at times, and the whole "picture mode" is pretty much pointless. There are many games, in my opinion, that are better than this, including: all the Midtown Madness games, Burnout Paradise (only), definitely Forza 1 & 2, and Gran Turismo (4 and on).

DIRT is also a game I would consider better than this, although DIRT is in a completely different category of racing games.

Summary:

It's good, worth it if you can find it for less than $15, otherwise spend the money on something relevant to life like...a car wash, or food or something.

PGR4 full racing experience

Project Gotham Racing 4 the trilogy was a great arcade and multiplayer experience ever since the first Xbox came out. The carreer is also a great adventure into the life of a real tournament racer and it's older arcade like simulation made it a game that's really hard to get bored of. The weather changes within a race and can instantly change how you react to the game and how the a.i. will react as well. I give this game a 3/5 because the graphics aren't really up to par with the date the game was released and the music can really get annoying. All in all great game for family or for the online pros that rock the virtual internet on xbox live.

Thanks for reading, Ray Worden.

not a sim racer, but certainly more than just arcade

It's got a lot to love, although it might be more of the same if you're a previous PGR 3 fan. But the graphics and flair are just undeniable. It's not a sim racer like Forza MS 2 or Gran Turismo 5 Prologue but it's close enough. PGR has a distinct feel to it and that's why you'd buy it. Plus it's got a nice list of manufacturers and vehicles to chose from.

If you're looking for a great racer to add to your collection and keep your roster of cars up to date, PGR 4 is your game. Me personally, I think it's great on its own if you had to chose between it and Forza MS 2. There are those who would balk at its arcade feel...that's the whole POINT! Truth be told, when I wanna feel the wind in my hair I'll go for a spin in my REAL car. If I wanna just pick up the controller and play something fun and enjoyable, I'll put Project Gotham Racing 4 on. And it doesn't disappoint.

Very fun and great graphics

Super fun game. If you're a fan of the PGR series, you won't be disappointed.

The graphics are unbelievable, game play is realistic (for the most part), and one of my favorite parts of this one is the addition of motorcycles. Many different cities and routes, lots of weather conditions to chose from to keep things interesting.

The soundtrack was a little bland for me compared to the extensive one on the last game which included many great songs from "unknown" bands.

I can't say much for online play, since I haven't been on it too much, but the downloadable game modes that involve some free roam have been pretty fun. The only thing I don't like about the game so far is that it doesn't have the single player free roam/cone attack like the first game. Either that or I just haven't found it yet.

Also, the ability to create your own paint scheme to use on any car is very cool.

Overall great game. I'd recommend it.

Nice upgrade from PGR3 :)

I really waited for PGR4 because I loved PGR3. However, now once I have the game I have mix feelings about it. First, graphics are really nice but somehow I expected them to be even better. I am really disappointed with car dashboards graphics which look really bad.
I was hoping for more realism in the game. It is disappointing that the cars are invincible to damaged received. There should be an option for that in the game as some players like more challenging settings.
Several of the tracks in the game are the same as in PGR3 but with a bit of upgraded graphics. Weather effects and motorcycles are great addition to the game. It is also great that there are more different types of cars in the game not just supercars as in PGR3.
. There aremany different music styles to choose from in the game: from classical music to techno or rap. Car and driving sounds are nice and feel realistic. There are also more types of challenges, and unlockables stuff compared to the previous version. Overall PGR4 feels more like an UPGRADE then totally new game.

PGR 4--WEATHER PERMITTING!

With 2005's Project Gotham Racing 3, Bizarre Creations ushered in a new era of racing on the Xbox 360 with a game that continued the long-standing quality of its Project Gotham series with amazing graphics and extensive online options. Here we are, two years later, and Bizarre has turned in the fourth game in the PGR series, one that opens up the vehicles list a bit and adds to the online fun, yet still follows the tried-and-true PGR formula. In short, Project Gotham Racing 4 continues the series' tradition of brilliant visuals and fun gameplay, and adds to the list with new rides and weather effects that must be driven to be believed.

The fastest cars in the game will typically be quicker than the bikes but, in our experience, if you can grab an early lead in PGR 4 on two wheels and can maintain some consistency in your laps, you'll be awfully tough to beat. Bikes have their control quirks; for instance, when coming out of a turn, you'll want to let go of the analog stick in order to bring yourself back up smoothly, as manually bringing your rider upright can result in serious overcorrection errors. But for the most part bikes aren't much of a challenge and, as a result, aren't really as fun as we were hoping.

The weather effect system, unlike the bikes, is a major feature of Project Gotham Racing 4 regardless if your love affair is with cars or bikes. The dynamic weather affects each and every machine- whether two wheel or four- which makes for an ever-changing physics lesson, not to mention constantly varying wheel-to-wheel racing difficulty. It makes sense in a racer too. For instance, all-wheel-drive cars are nearly always heavier than their two-wheel-drive counterparts, which normally gives the advantage in the dry to the latter. But throw in rainy (or better yet) snowy conditions, and the advanced AWD systems of these tanks more than makes up for their weight (this also allows AWD cars to drift, which we all know equals Kudos) This is even more evident with the bikes. How many bikes do you see driving around on ice and snow? There’s a reason, and it can be played out in Project Gotham Racing 4 without risking serious

If you know the PGR series then you know that the Arcade and Career (revised for a more interactive experience) modes are all about acquiring Kudos in order to progress through the locked areas and gain access to better tracks and cars. Project Gotham Racing 4 gives us more of the same, but a revised Kudos system makes the experience a bit more tolerable. Those that don’t like to slide all over the track or aren’t looking to make a YouTube video of successive 360’s will enjoy the fact that technical road racing skills will be rewarded handsomely as well. Techniques such as acquiring the fastest lap, drafting, completing a section cleanly, maintaining a target speed or even hitting an apex can result in mad Kudos. Of course you’ll still have to do feint and power drifts, catch some air and use that e-brake all of the time if you want to progress as planned through Project Gotham Racing 4. In addition to normal racing events, the Cone, Time vs. Kudos and Speed Challenge events are back for flashy Kudos collection. The dynamic weather makes this sometimes-monotonous task of Kudos collection more fun and tougher to master, and the new gathering system devised by Bizarre helps a bit too. There are separate Kudos to earn for bikes, which can be interesting at times as well

OVERALL 8.8
A MUST BUY

PGR4 the final Bizzare title before the EA take over

Project Gotham Racing started life as MSR metropoilis Street Racing on the old sega Dreamcast. It one of those games that got better and better and better after each game. I thought it hit pinnacle when pgr2 hit the shelves on the original xbox. The inclusion of dealer like showrooms and functional movement of the spoilers on the carrera gt for instance made the fun to play game even more realistic then ever before.

With PGR3, The introduction of interior and higher defintion graphics(even though its be "upscaled" to 720p :) Brought with it awesome package where it was pgr 2 with eye candy gallore. But it didnt bring to the table the lil finer things I appreciated about the game. But it made up for it in great graphics and tiddy control. The later added MS steering wheel, made it one of the BEST nurburgring simulator EVAR.

PGR4 work on top of pgr3, It includes any more fantastic challenges and career mode and much much more in depth. I still havent seen the spoiler go up and down when I see 70ish, but with downloadable content, amazing graphics, amazing wheather representations, fun engaging, almost crisp control and feel for all the cars make this game a MUST for all car game enthusiast.

From the groovy colorful intro to the awesome lil geometry wars game thats in your garage all the time

Just taking photos of your fav supercars sideways action in the rain.. can be an amazing waste of 15-20 minutes..

The challenges noise and viduals, the maybe final reworked version of MSR before a parent company take over. Its sleeper hit ..yaddamean

Beautiful graphics and great gameplay

I read some reviews while waiting for it to arrive that made me think it wasn't going to be a great game, but it definitely is. The graphics and scenery are beautiful and the abundance of vehicles to choose from makes for hours of experimenting. I play this game almost every day now and I highly recommend it for someone looking for a good racing game.Lire l'avis complet...
