Good next-gen graphics, but way too easy for halo guys.

I like this game. It is one of the first games that really shows off a little of the potential of what the 360 can do (aside from lighting changes). It has great single player gameplay, and plays online with minimal lag (after your system gets used to the levels.)
As far as graphics, they really are outstanding, with the wallwalks being my favorite aspect. Go up a wallwalk, and you can walk on the ceiling, on the sides of rooms, and the physics comply with where you are at. Shoot a person while they are on the ceiling, and they fall to the ground from where they were. The single player game also adds puzzles into this, where you must use these wallwalks to get to new areas when doors are locked. Very innovative. Another cool feature is the use of Spirit Mode, where you leave your presence in the physical world, but remain walking with your spirit form. There are also puzzles to complete in spirit form, like walking through unlockable doors and such.
Online gameplay is fairly easy to catch onto, although there is a significant amount of lag when starting up, and not too many people play this online yet. You often will end up playing with the same group of characters for rounds at a time, and if you have any whiny kids or foulmouth teenagers, this can be annoying.
In conclusion, if you are a renter of games, this is definitely a renter. The acheivements are very easy to get (I got all of them within one weekend, and that wasn't sitting in front of my Xbox for hours straight, either. This probably isn't a buy game, but if you like Quake 4's online gameplay, and already have Quake 4, this would be a good addition to your collection. I wouldn't pay more than $25 shipped for this game.

PREY - Good hunting for 10 hours

Prey is an interesting FPS, and the first one to stray from the typical “formula” I might add. The story line, very loosely based on Indian Folklore, takes place on unfamiliar place in space. Immediately turning on this game, you recognize the makers of Doom and Duke Nukem are behind this game. You start off on an Indian bar and the aliens come and take you for “experimentation” for their civilization. Though it is a tired storyline, the visuals are enough to take your attention away from that.

This was a fun game with its puzzles and nice change up to the typical first person shooter, but to all the Halo and Halo 2 lovers out there, there are not enough bad guys to destroy. This game can be beaten in 3 sit-downs of 3 hours each if you wanted to, though at times, feels to get repeative and boring at times and can drag.

Pros:
Innovative Game play
Puzzles within action
Stunning graphics
Environments that will make your head spin

Cons:
Way too easy
Multiplayer is Lackluster
Loading times are long enough to make a sandwich
TOO SHORT / EASY

Overall: This will hold me over until Gears of War or the next FPS.

To Buy or Not to Buy: This is a great game to get on ebay below the $60.00 price tag, or for a long rental at your favorite establishment.

From a Duke Nukem 3D fan

Like a lot of people, I remember reading the previews about Prey when it was talked about back in the late 90s for the PC. The fancy technology such as the portals, interactive environments, and a lead character with character (some of the things I loved about Duke Nukem 3D) led me to believe this would be a game to watch out for. Skip 10 years later and it's released for the 360. My opinions about the game:

Pros
----
* The portal technology is pretty freakin cool. You can be in a room, for example, and a "window" to another room will be floating in front of you. You can see into this window and actually shoot into it, and affect what is on the other side. Once you enter this window, you are transported to this new room.

* The gravity paths are a nice effect, and this game actually made me nautious at times (something I haven't experienced in a while from a game).

* While most levels only takes around 30-45 minutes to finish (if you are observant like I am and check out all the things there are to see), there are 22 levels total. I felt the game was pretty short, but I don't know if it was just because of the short times per level.

* The in-game puzzles were fun. On a couple, I had to sit, stare at the screen, and think "how do I get out of this?". They were never too difficult and didn't slow the game down at all. They were quite enjoyable.

* The use of the space ships were exciting and different. At certain points of the game, you actually get to fly around in a mini space ship (with thrusts and a weapon). It almost got to the point where this was over used, but it was a nice change of pace.

Cons
----
* The portal technology kind of felt like the developers used it as an easy way to transition between scenes/worlds/levels. Instead of a steady transition like most games, when you walk into a portal, you felt like you were "dumped" into this new area (which essentially you were), and gave the game a choppy flow.

* The load times between each level are rediculously slow, but once it's loaded, it's done for that level.

* Compared to Duke Nukem 3D, the weapons were way too similar to each other. I don't care for the futuristic style of weapondry anyway, but the weapons just didn't differentiate enough.

* Multiplayer was just boring. I wouldn't have though so with the portals and gravity walks (plus Duke 3D was one of my favorite multiplayer games ever), but the multiplayer maps were not exciting at all.

Prey - Eat or be Eaten

One of the most eagerly and longest waited game in history. Now the question comes was it worth the wait.
Well the game engine was overhauled a few times to keep up with the ever changing technology.
Which was one of the best points of the game is the new way of playing a FPS.
Walking on walls, ceilings and changing gravity. This does take a while to get used to but when your mastered it you’re a pro.
The out of body experiences is also a great way of doing some of the same old boring puzzles.
Playing the game in HD does have some areas which are to dark to really appreciate the graphics but the graphics are awesome.
There is a few rock songs throw in for good measure on some stages which give it some kick, sounds overall is very good,
As an added extra you will find some casino machines on certain stages that do add something extra to the game.
But this game’s levels are way to short and the replay factor minimal after you have completed it.
Maybe games like BLACK totally reinvented the FPS genre and expectations are high on the other games in the market.
Overall it was a great experience to play the game but not one of those that are worth to keep for long time in your collection.

Review by the mack daddy himself

Humanhead's final product culminates in an excellent, deep first-person shooter experience that, right now, is unrivaled on Xbox 360. There really is nothing quite like it. The selling points are many. The spirit feature doesn't, in fact, get too repetitive when you die. Instead, it prevents you from re-covering already well-tread ground. The wall and ceiling climbing may make some gamers motion sick, but for the most part the experience is really, really fun. It turns into a pretty heavy-duty multiplayer skill in the end, and though I like it, I think some folks might end up getting tired of it real quick. The wall and ceiling climbing is wild and fun, but combined with phenomenally cool level design, with some great puzzles and some rather iffy, illogical puzzles thrown in, a surprise enemy, and some really cool weapons, Prey finishes everything off with smart presentation, impressive graphics, and great sound. The game is a little shorter than I had hoped, and the graphics aren't quite as good on the Xbox 360 as they are on the PC, but this should be a slam dunk on Xbox Live. The multiplayer modes are sure to have gamers deeply involved over the next several months. The options, technical experience, and the amount and quality of online games are straightforward fun.Lire l'avis complet...

Prey X-Box

Prey is the new first-person shooter developed by Human Head Studios easily clears the bar set by American McGee's Alice. American McGee's Alice was a classic re make of Alice wonder land that take the a wrong turn when the really Alice leaves and return to find the evil queen in charge. To say the least, the story is unforgettable, but I find Prey story line a bit forgettable.
The young Native American along with his grandfather and very hot girlfriend, Jen is abducted by aliens and teleport to a huge ship. Tommy manages get free and his first task is to find Jen. That task alone keeps him busy. Tommy talks a bit much in the game. Mostly cursing. The game gets interesting in the in, but until then it is mostly average. You star out with a wrench in the game and slow have weapon introduce to you during game. Follow by a few puzzle elements. I found the wall walking, change in gravity and spirit walking interesting. Some players may Wall walling is a bit disorient, for a while. But one of the best thing is wait for an enemy on a ceiling that you can walk on. I get a spider man type feeling before you rain death down on them. Or if you are feeling luck drop down on them. Their are a few different way to complete a level, mostly depend on the floor tour standing on. So practice wall walking.
Tying in Tommy's Cherokee heritage to the game give him the unique ability to spirit walk. At any time Tommy and leave is body and explore and walk through sheild and round the ship. In spirit form their is a few puzzle to figure out to deaviate force field, but the puzzles are not that tough. Always remember to place your physical some where safe when you spirit walk. The most disturbing thing for me is frustratingly inaccurate weapons even when you standing still. Reminding me of Days of defeat/ Half life.
Portal hopping is nice but always be on the look out for an ambush and be careful when firing in to a portal or you may end up hitting yourself as you travel through them. Prey has the creep Doom 3 feeling. A lot of the game reminds you of Doom 3. One of the good thing is quick save. If you have just the ability to save the game at the a check point of at the end of mission would make this game very frustrating. Each time you reload the game you have to play a mini game AKA Death Walk. Death walks also takes place when Tommy die Tommy has about ten or more seconds to shoot spirits that circle him, replenishing his health and spirit. Then he will be brought back to life on the spot of your death. Walk I don't like about the death walk is you can't really be killed in the game. Your unstoppable because you can't die. Unlike in your game were you constant reload and have to fight your way out of a live hell or Constant cheap or sneak attacks by the enemy which usually adds to frustration and kills the game play. Death walk make part of the game to easy but less frustrating.
The graphics are nice but remind me a lot of Doom 3. just not as dark But a lot of the creatures seem to been taken from doom. The requirement on Prey are a bit high. Multiplayer is still the same at the other shooter. The Wall walking make it interest but it will fade in interest in a short amount of time. Perhaps interest Mods will same it.

Prey is enjoyable as a one time hot and heavy then move on. The story isn't much to speak of, but I really like the hot girlfriend Jen. Gravity trick keep game play interesting and puzzles don't get in the way.

An interesting spin on a FPS/RPG

This game immediately caught my attention while reading about it in XB360 Magazine. When it came out, I was interested to see how it would go, and I have to say, as far as game play goes, it was quite good. Early during the game, you obtain a sidekick, in the form of a bird. This bird basically guides you through the game, whenever you get lost, the bird will show you the propper way to go, and I have to say, that made the game very easy to play through. The weapons in this game are also pretty cool, some of them are even living creatures! The weapons give an interesting spin to the game because when you get them, you have no idea what to expect. As an RPG this game is very good. The story line, though extremely short(about 7 hours), is very well done, and really grabs you. The main goal in the game, is to rescue your girlfriend(I know what you are thinking, typical RPG goal, and I would have to agree with you, it is a very typcial RPG story line) but the interesting part in this game, is the fact that the enemy, could also be considered the "good guys." Where as most game put humans facing off someone invading earth and trying to take over "our world," PREY, as it is so appropriately named, has the enemys story line such that they created all life in the universe(excluding them of course) and only put us(as well as all other life in the universe) to feed themselves. When you think about it, this is like us planting vegetables, and then the vegetables revolting against us when we try to eat them. All things aside, this game is an interesting combination between a FPS and an RPG. Had the game been longer, I would have given this game a 10/10, but based on its length, I give it a 8/10. The games inovative story line and intresting choice of weapons are revolutionary to FPS/RPGs, and if you don't mind short games, I highly recomend this game!Lire l'avis complet...

Great Sci-fi Adventure!!!

Prey is an innovative game that has a lot of things that other games just don't have like portals that you can throw grenades through, anti-gravity floors, weapons in the form of creatures, and an alien abduction storyline(no anal probe in this one though). The 'Doom' engine shines brightly throughout the entire single player game. It is pretty short, sweet, and freaky up until the end of this one. Never really scary though except when giants are chasing you or alien raptors. The entire ship is a living entity and can lead to some pretty disgusting moments throughout so be warned. It's really just like playing through "Alien" except with less scary aliens. Oh and the thing you will love and hate is the fact you can never die. You love it because you don't die but you hate it because you are forced to play the same mini game over and over when you do die.
Online is not a factor in favor of the game or else it could be a 5/5. Constant connection difficulty causes problems for everyone except for maybe the first few connected. If you are host there is no problem at all. Same usually goes for second and third players but anymore than that and the lag will probably start. Still a great game to play even with the glitches of multiplayer. Oh and why no split-screen? Shame on you 2K games. 3.5/5

Inspired by DOOM that will rattle your brain.

This is much like the DOOM series, first person shooter. The game has excellent graphics with a variety of alien weapons and creatures to kill. Traveling around a ship that is strange, going through little crates and in a different part of the ship after you go through it. Places that the normal person can't reach, turn into a ghost and continue with your misson. The two things that I really didn't like about the game is that its pretty straight forward. You are very limited to where you can go. Another is that when you die, you don't start the level over. You go into some kind of after life and try to obtain your health back, making the game not that difficult. I would recommend this in your gaming library and anyone who loves a good alien shoot'em up.Lire l'avis complet...

You NEED to try this...

TO say that this game ok, is an understatement. To say it is bad is a downright lie. Expect the unexpected with this one. IN other words, expect to be wow'ed. Prey has so many weird and awlkward parts and theams, its just an intersesting game to get lost in. With innovative alternete routs of game-paly mixed with a twist on viedo game death, its REALLL good. Everyone should play this game. Everyone should have this experience.

THE downside, its an older next-gen game, so you need to expect some flaws. I mean it dosnt look like halo 3 or anything, but it still stands on its own.

ALL IN ALL? Good game, worth buying and playing, if not for the tired first-person formula, then for its crazy quirks and cool charistics. I mean when you die in this game you need to look for your soul or something?!? Its crazy, Id Reccemond it.
