I'm only about 9 chapters in. This book has immaculate writing. The idea that this book is somehow boring or dry and unfulfilling is the worst sort of opinion to have, but considering the content of The Silmarillion it is not just a bad opinion. It's also wrong. Amazing story in an amazing world

Like most fans of "The Lord of the Rings" I enjoyed the movies and books but wanted more from the story. There are so many questions that are left unanswered, who, where, why? This book tells the tale of the entire universe of "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" every legend and detail is throughly set out in a beautiful way. This is a semi difficult read because of the language but if you have the interest in time this is a must for any fan.

Great LOTR history.

My daughter is a huge LOTR fan and this book gives background history of Middle Earth. A tougher read than LOTR, but rewarding for the dedicated Tolkien fan.

Lord of The Silmarils

Tolkiens pre-history of Middle earth is a conglomerate of borrowed myths of many cultures and a little Biblical epic thrown in. It adds to the richness of the epic Lord of The Rings, though the reading is a bit tough. The use of so many descriptive names and places makes one think that Tolkien walked with his characters.
