Great choice for a dancer w/o hip hop background!
This DVD/CD combination was purchased for a tween with several years of dance training but little hip hop experience. Currently taking classes in ballet, jazz, tap and others, hip hop is not covered (except in workshops and summer school.) Given that tap is her preferred genre (and some tap styles incorporate some elements of hip hop) this DVD seemed like the perfect answer to get her started.
I would not necessarily expect this to be nearly as beneficial to someone w/o any dance or musical training. They might find it frustrating if their goals were to duplicate the moves in time to the rhythms as presented. Those kids not looking or hoping for perfection, though, could just have some good old fun with it.
The steps presented move from pretty basic to some more moderately/more difficult ones. I found watching the "rehearsal" section in the Bonus area helpful to notice the corrections being made. Again, I think someone serious about learning the content of the DVD would find this to be extremely helpful.
I am grateful to have found this DVD and feel it is a great choice for what I was searching for. I should also add that I appreciated the additional comments on the importance of "warming up" before dancing since many younger people forget and/or do not realize just how important this is. I also appreciated the brief coverage of the importance of good nutrition and staying hydrated. I do not think kids can be reminded of these things too many times.

Hip Hop for Kids
The video is fun and upbeat. The teaching is a little fast for a beginner, although I think it will be great once my son has had a little more classroom training.
