Love this camera

I spent 8-9 months researching medium format film cameras, and after trying out a few of my friends' cameras (including a Contax, Mamiya, and of course the Pentax 645n), this camera was easily my favorite choice, especially for the price! I love how easy it is to change film quickly or carry additional film backs with me, and the built-in light meter is incredibly accurate. AF is fast with the 75mm FA lens, and while this camera is very heavy, the hand grip is comfortable and I'm able to carry this camera/lens for a few hours without exhaustion. I love how each feature has its own dial. The image scans I've received back from my print lab (The Find Lab) have all been beautiful! I definitely recommend this camera as a great entry to film for any photographer, whether hobbyist or professional.Lire l'avis complet...

What I've been looking for

I've been wanting a medium format camera for ages and this one fit the bill for price and the quality I was looking for. I haven't had a chance to test out all it is capable of, but so far it is a great, no light leaks or fog. Idk if this review is for my camera or the type of camera for eBay right now, but in case it's the former - autofocus is nice but not fast, don't expect anything like your dslr. Winding and film advancement is on the noisy side, but that's to be expected. Overall beautiful imagery.Lire l'avis complet...

Higly recomended!

I have tried dozens of medium format cameras, but easiest and most ergonomic is Pentax 645. It`s like an automatic SLR camera, what deoes everything for you - measures light and winds film. Operator just needs to press button and adjust focus through huge pentaprism viewfinder - it`s joy by itself! Because viewfinder is huge, bright and crips, center part has microprism/split screen image and getting sharpness on rigt spot, jigging of details disspaears.

Pentax lenses at the moment is supercheap for quality what they deliver. Especial praise goes to 35mm wide angle, 55mm, 75mm, 120mm macro (I had 125mm Voigtlander pentax 35mm mount) and compared Pentax 645 A and FA macros against superlens Voigtlander. These are not so sharp like Voigtlander, but difference is noticable only comparing samples of ISAF chart. So, I sold Voigtlander for 1900 EUR. :D

I assume middle of summer/autumn price of lenses will go up dramatically, because Pntax introduces 645D II and seems will make effort to promote it. New lenses cost around 4000 USD, so... It is no brainer to grab now all these lenses what goes for 80-200 USD. What I do on rare ocasions and can say - I didn`t saw sample variations. Higly recomended system for portraits of people and for scenery (with Velvia RVP 50 120 ).

Simple and Solid Camera

I bought it with 135mm f3.5 which almost equals to 90mm f2 on 35mm.
I simply loved this camera. It is easy to use, very simple button functions and has a great shutter sound that gives you more motivation :)
Focussing is easy, viewfinder is enough bright, it is not dark.
Works with 6AA battery.
I dont say it is lightweight but i dont think it is a heavy one for a medium format.
Even if you are a pro or amateur I think you will love this 645 medium format.

Pentax 645N- A successful upgrade over the original

Compared to the original Pentax 645, the N model is much improved in terms of it's operational controls. First is the metering system which can be set for matrix, center weighted, as well as spot metering. Exposures with this camera are much more accurate compared to the original. Using Exposure compensation is vastly improved too allowing 1/3 stop increments compared to 1 stop increments of the original. The viewfinder is much brighter and contrasty- definently a plus when manually focusing. All info now is below the image and uses LCD elements- much improved over the original, and uses much less power also. With AF lenses you can select spot or widefield mode depending upon which would work best. Using the AF function with non-AF lenses, precise focusing is greatly enhanced. The use of dial controls over push buttons makes handling more like an original 35mm SLR on steroids. A true medium format camera that has been successfully upgraded.Lire l'avis complet...

Pretty small for 645

Have been looking around for an 645 camera, ended up with mamiya 645 pro- pro tl and pentax 645n/nII and after looking at photos i think mamiyas images render to be more steril and didnt attract me as the pentax did, after coples of rolls i didn't regret this at all. AF/Light meter is accurate and camera is very plastic and feels very plastic but is well buildt.Lire l'avis complet...

One of the best all-around MF film cameras out there.

If you've never seen one in person, they are smaller than they may seem. If you've shot an RB67, they's positively tiny by comparison. The center weighted metering is awesome. The motor drive is really precise (so unfortunately you can't cheat a 16th frame out of a roll like you can with other cameras). The available lenses are great. You can't go wrong here unless you want autofocus. That will require a step up to the 645 N or NII. Short of that, this is my favorite film camera.Lire l'avis complet...

It's a big dog

I've always been a Pentax fan. The quality is there, but with a moderate price tag. The 645 is not a small camera, it's a medium format with weight, 6lbs., with batteries. The viewfinder is more than a bit dark, not sure why, but others have said so too. I'm still shooting get to know the camera rolls of film, so I don't have any shots that are special, I am pleased though. Lire l'avis complet...

Excellent film camera

I've had a Pentax 645 camera for awhile now and it's a very good camera but a bit finicky to use so I have wanted to upgrade to the 645N but the prices where to high. I saw this camera, the price was right, so I bought it. The condition of the camera was in excellent condition and everything worked properly and it is a joy to use. The strap that came with it is to thin for me, but not a big issue since it had the lug clips and it was easy to get a wider strap. Overall this was a fantastic deal and I couldn't be happier.Lire l'avis complet...

Great resolution at a fraction of the price of the 645D

The 645n was in great shape, almost like new. This film camera was a fraction of the cost of the digital 645D and the quality of the pictures is similar. Of course, this is not my full time camera and I got it for special effects or occasional use.
The camera has all the modern features like autofocus, double exposure, bracketing, etc.
The camera is quite hefty and heavy so it is not for everybody.
I use it as compliment to two digital cameras and I wanted it for the resolution of the 645 format.
