Quite pleased with the quality of the camera.

Quite pleased with the quality of the camera. Photos are nice, even with the kit lens. It can film 4k at 30fps, or 1080p at 60 fps. It has a built-in timer feature for time laps photography. It's also small and light making it a good travel camera. The camera body is well constructed, and it feels like a superior camera to others in the same price range. I checked out the Sony line, and Cannon line before making the decision to go with the Lumix G85. I'm completely happy with that choice. For me, I needed something I could film videos, while on my bicycle, so it needed the in body stabilization. Also, I needed a good camera for shooting photos of landscapes. This camera delivers on both. The battery seems to hold a long enough charge for my needs. The auto focus is slower than other brands like Sony & Cannon, but it still works well enough. I found switching to 1080p at 60fps makes batter video quality because it's capturing twice as many images in the same time frame. What I also like is that it uses the micro 4/3 lens platform. AWESOME CAMERA FOR BEGINNERS++

THE CAMERA ARRIVED A DAY EARLY, EVERYTHING INTACT. GOT THE BATTERY CHARGED AND WENT AT IT..PHOTOGRAPED EVERYTHING..THE MENU REAL EASY TO LEARN, MANY OPTIONS AT MY DISPOSAL , WAS ABLE TO SET UP BACK BUTTON FOCUS, BUT AS I LEARNED MORE OF THE CAMERA, ITS TRACING SYSTEM WAS FASTER THAN DOING BACK BUTTOM FOCUS , SO I SWITCHED BACK. THE BUTTONS EASY TO READ, FOCUSING IS PHENOMINAL AS WELL AS THE 4K VIDEO ....ABSOLUTELY AWESOME AND I EVEN CAN TAKE STILL PICS WHILE I'M VIDEO RECORDING. LOVE THE SWIVEL SCREEN , THE VIEWFINDER IS VERY CLEAR AND DETAILED AS WELL AS THE MONITOR.....WHICH WAS MY MAIN CONCERN........IT SOLD ME WHEN I STARTED TAKING PICTURES. I LOVE THE CUSTOM MENUS AS WELL TO TOTALLY CUSTOMIZED YOUR CAMERA TO SHOOT THE WAY YOU WANT IT..THIS WOULD BE GREAT FOR BEGINNERS..........IT HAS SO MUCH TO OFFER.. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS CAMERA.Lire l'avis complet...

IT has all you will ever need and then some.

First let me say that I hate to see a review stating "AWESOME CAMERA FOR BEGINNERS" although this is true it may lead you to think its not for professional photographers and this camera is definitely for both.
I have shot pro for over 35yrs and I never get exited over a new camera, this is the first and only time I have paid money for anything but a NIKON and my first attraction to this camera was the ability to use my good Nikon glass on this camera and still retain stabilization . Yes ! you can do that! This camera also will zoom and pan by itself without touching it and a host of other great features to many to write here. The Only complaint people who are super picky say is the auto focus is slow and thats not really true, they just dont know how to set it up. is its auto focus as good as a nikon? YES. or a sony? NO but no camera is perfect in all respects because of patent rights.(Nikon, Sony, canon and Panasonic would have to work together LOL) This camera has THE MOST you can get for your dollar spent period. Lens and body stabilization, 4K, pan, zoom, image stacking, after focus, wifi phone control, lightweight, water resistant, CLEAN HDMI OUT, MIC INPUT, various great video controls and sound controls and more.

Best camera for the price range.

The G85 is the best balance budget camera all around. There is nothing that can compete with it in its price range. Many cameras in the price range is missing one or more of the below pros:

Pros:
4K 30p or 24p video @ a small 1.1 crop
Very good in body image stabilization and can dual stabilize with compatible lens
Great Picture Quality
Unlimited Video recording time.
Great ergonomics and control placement
Flip out screen
Mic-Jack
Great lens support
Great Grip, size and weight.

I was thinking of the G9 but the price is more than double. The G9 has uncropped 4K @ 60p but its limited to 10 mins. It takes better pictures, has betters ibis and controls but the body is bigger, heavier and the improvement is not worth more than doubling the price of the G85 for what i use it for. The newer G95 has an even more corp in 4K than the 1.1 of the G85 but does support 4K 60p with unlimited recording time by its also double the price.

Canon M50 is another alternative but that camera has very poor lens support and lacks IBIS. It has an even worse corp in 4K. The built quality is all plastic.

Olympus em5 mark II: It does not have 4K video and does support dual image stabilization. The flash is also not integrated with the camera.

Overall, I don't think there is any interchangeable lens camera in this price range can beat Panasonic IBIS system and features, sure some might have bigger sensors and might have better image quality but when it comes to videos, the g85 with its ibis and controls probably beats them all.

The Sharpness Blew Me Away!!!

Let me just say, I bought the camera as a stills camera and it has surpassed my expectations.

So I hesitated when I saw the G85 was a Micro 4/3 camera with only 16 MP sensor. I thought, how sharp can it be? Well, let me tell you, this camera is VERY SHARP. I've enclosed some photos so you can see. I set the Photo Style to VIVID and i.Resoluton to HIGH so I'm sure that helps.

I have the 12 - 60mm kit lens and I also bought the 45-200mm Vario lens (older model which I got for $200 on Ebay - see bird and rabbit pics as they were both at 200mm).

I switched from a Nikon D5300 DSLR to the Mirrorless G85 a month ago. I liked my Nikon but I got tired of dust in the viewfinder of the DSLR so I decided to make the move to Mirrorless and the EVF (Electronic Viewfinder). I couldn't be more happy. The feature set on the G85 is far superior to the Nikon. You get a touch screen, Time Lapse (done in the camera), easy to navigate menu ( ex. it's easy to switch from Auto ISO to a manual ISO setting which was a pain in the ass on the Nikon), an Economy Mode which really saves on the battery life, and Post Focus just to name a few things. Post Focus is awesome and an unexpected nice feature which I use a lot to get maximum depth of field. Check out reviews on YouTube for the G85 as they can do more justice for a review than I can do here in a few paragraphs.

Egonomically the camera feels great in the hand and I love the heft which Panasonic added as part of the weather sealing of the camera. The IN BODY stabilization is another bonus and I know it is adding to the sharpness of my photos by preventing camera shake at all focal lengths.

If you are looking for a great feeling and feature rich Mirroless camera this is the one.

Good value, great mid-range and lightweight camera for photo and video.

Here are the pluses of the G85 for me:

1- The G85 image stabilization capabilities are great for both video and photography. Also, Panasonic native lenses offer additional image stabilization in the lenses.
2- The video capabilities are great, in particular the 4K possibility.
3- The micro thirds gear with its smaller sensor size are light and compact, and this is a huge plus for me.
4- The price point for this mid-range camera is great, under $700 for camera body with the good 12-60mm Panasonic lens.
5- I have found and tried out with great satisfaction several good quality and great value third party lenses (abundant offers on eBay), including the Canon FD lens series and the Tamron adaptall-2 lenses. Adapters are readily available out there for less than $20.
6- The auto focus limitation is not an issue for me, as I use 1080p (instead of 4K) video recording whenever I need good working auto focus for my video recording scenarios.
7- For me, there is room to grow to the next gear level, the Panasonic GH5 or the soon to be released G95, if I desire to upgrade.

Attached photos were shot with a Canon FD 28mm f/2.8 lens.

One of the best micro 4/3 cameras out there

Always been a lumix shooter. If you want to shoot weddings, or other low-light situations and you want great printable images - go with full-frame sensor camera. For ANY other use I highly recommend G85. Small compact beast that will amaze you with how much you can do with it once you master shooting in Manual mode and setting Custom White Balance. Buy with confidence.Lire l'avis complet...

The ideal combo for photo & 4K video in a well designed camera

Excellent camera for the price. Smart and ultra functional design with a wide range of cool features (touch-screen + swiveling screen, 4K video, multiple formats, etc). Photo and Video quality/colors are very good and the menu is very easy to navigate/use. Definitely a great value.Lire l'avis complet...

For Video: You couldn't do much better!

This is one great camera for video. If you are only interested in stills, then it is good. But for video it is outstanding. 4K resolution is amazing and gives you the ability to crop in significantly and still have wonderful and clear video. This gives you essentially two different camera "angles" from one position. The menus are fairly easy to learn (but it takes a little effort - watch YouTube for this), and it normally comes with a great 12-60 mm kit lens. One thing I especially love about it is that when you take long clips (past thirty minutes) it does not stop at all, nor does it chop the video into pieces on your memory card. You can record for an hour or longer and still find only one video file on your card. Wow! It is smaller than DSLRs and if you buy a 20mm 1.7 lens or a 25mm 1.8 lens you can get a very nice blurred background. It is way cheaper than its big brother, the GH5, but for most of us it will do everything we need - and then some. Highly recommended!Lire l'avis complet...
