Big zoom in small size camera.

The first thing I like about the camera is the size, it has 10X optical zoom but it small to fit my pocket. That make it easy to take anywhere. The second thing I like is it has IA mode, so with this features you don't need to do any thing to get a fine picture. The third I like is the big 3" LCD screen, one you used a camera with 3" screen, you will don't like any one with smaller screen. The auto focus is good with motion subject. In Panasonic DMC-TZ range,it is the best.Lire l'avis complet...

Panasonic DMC-TZ5

I bought this camera after reading some of the great reviews and numerous awards. I have to admit the picture quality is first class, and very easy to take. Leave it in the auto mode and you can’t go far from wrong. You can easily adjust basic settings with simple clicks. At full x10 optical zoom you can get good images without much loss of image quality. There is the option of HD video, but the quality isn’t very good, nor is the sound. If you want decent video footage, stick to a camcorder. The last three of my ‘cons’ list I was unaware of before buying the camera.

Pros:

•Fabulous pictures - you would probably want to keep 9/10 of them because they come out good, even at full zoom.
•Excellent back screen.
•Easy to use – has great image stabilizer so no more blurry pictures.
•High quality build and finish (Quality German Leica lens).
•Fast start up times (takes a picture in about 3 seconds from start up).
•Built in software allows viewing two pictures at the same time, view slideshows with music and favourites selection. E.g. favourites can be played or the rest can be deleted.
•HD output so you can watch videos and stills on a HD TV
•Decent battery life per charge; batteries charge quickly too

Cons:

•Bad positioning of microphone.
•Video quality 5/10 compared to standard camcorder.
•Video zooming isn’t always smooth and takes time to focus.
•Zooming lens machinery can be noisy both for stills and video.
•Video in .MOV mode so not easy to edit. Not all players will play .mov file.
•Hand strap supplied lacks wrist fastener/tightener.
•Audio and TV cable supplied but not HD cable.
•Does not come with a DC charger to charge battery in camera. i.e. battery has to be taken out and placed onto a separate charger.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5K 9.1 Camera

The Lumix digital camera has the performance and wide range of focus that my old SLR camera previously delivered. The Lumix DMC-TZ5K is many time better because of the high-resolution digital images it produces, the small size, and ease of use. Oh yes, and features, features, features!

Such features at 10 times optical zoom really set it apart from comprative cameras. But only after reading the manual did I discover that, by turning on Digital Zoom and combining it with the optical zoom the camera can deliver up to 67 times zoom! The pictures at that magnification are sharp and clear, with the anti-shake technology built in.

The large 3" screen with self-adjusting brightness make it easy to use in bright sun or indoors. Time-lapse photography is also a snap with great results. For this price point, you cannot outperform the Lumix DMC-TZ5K 9.1 megapixel camera. What an outstanding value this is.

Panasonic Lumix a rugged, versatile camera

I just bought the TZ5 because I wanted a camera that had a great optical zoom and a lot of user adjustments that I could use in a variety of settings. I got this one about a week before setting off on a diving trip to Cozumel, along with a dive case from Amazon. It worked great both above and below the surface. I was able to easily change the white balance while at depth to keep the colors true without having to lug around a strobe. I was also able to take great movies underwater. The lens is large enough to allow for good lighting for video at 80 to 100 depths. The controls are intuitive so they don't distract from the dive experience. On land, the Lumix was great too, from taking pictures in heavy shade to full sun and it handled the quickly changing light of sunsets easily.
I am glad I bought it.

This is the second Lumix I have owned. The first, a TZ3 lasted for years till it was dropped about ten feet onto some rocks while climbing Half Dome. Over the years it had been dropped numerous times, but was finally finished off with this fall. It still works if you hold the battery door just so...

Panasonic TZ5 - Blue - 9.1MP 10X Zoom

This is the only small camera that can fit in your pocket but take amazing pictures with a 10X Zoom. if you can live with 3MP it can have an optical zoom of 16.9X. That is simply amazing for a small camera.

The features are simple to use even if you have never used a camera before and everything is logically placed. The camera is durable, light, and has a long lasting battery. Also, you can film high definition video! what a score.

I would recomend this camera above all else. Give it a try. it is worth the price. Cheers!

Versatile traveler

This camera is the photographic equivalent of an all terrain ski. It has traveled with me to ski, tour Europe, ziplining in the rain, and with the underwater housing, been diving. This versatility comes with a price, but overall Panasonic has done a fine job. In the bright sun, this camera is superb and good in low light. As with most cameras today, the chips have too many pixels. This means that you get noisy images and lens aberrations because you cannot stopdown the lens iris or you go past the resolving power of the lens. This is a general complaint, not a fault with this camera specifically. This rugged camera's sharp lens' zoom range is excellent, the anti shake is useful, the flash is good, and the intelligent auto feature is excellent. Expect bright, colorful images and decent HD video. This camera and its Canon competitor represent a real breakthrough for the casual photographer and a great addition to the "prosumer's" arsenal.Lire l'avis complet...

Love this camera

I am not a very camera savvy person and need a camera that is easy to use but takes good pictures. I did a lot of research and found this one to be the best for my needs. It is really easy to use. The thing that works well for me is the different shooting modes. These modes automatically configure the camera so your shot comes out looking great. It has a long zoom which is a plus if you want to get pictures of things far away. I also like the wider view angle on the lens. The best part of this camera is the image stabilizer. I hardly ever get blurry pictures from the camera shaking. In all this is a great camera if you want an easy to use almost fool proof point and shoot.Lire l'avis complet...

Fantastic camera, many easy options, highly recommended

It's slim, good looking and fits perfectly in one hand. I used to have some big, bulky "Pro" cameras but they were just impractical for daily use.
This one has excellent battery life, choice of easily accessible options and intuitive controls. The wide-angle lens if great for city photos (downtown areas such as upper Manhattan). The image stabilizer is fantastic, even when you shoot photos from a car. The display is REALLY bright, even on sunny days. I love the face recognition option - the camera focuses on a person's face. Excellent option! The final cherry on the cake is the 10X e-zoom. It's one-button operation which takes you zzzooooooooom all the way there in three seconds flat!
This camera is available in FOUR colors that I know about - black, silver, blue and red. It has a feeling (weight) of a professional piece of equipment at the price that raised many eyebrows. Pick this one, unless you a professional photographer and REALLY need all those bells and whistles. Even then - this would be a perfect back-up/emergency unit. I highly recommend this camera!

small enough for pocket; almost good enough to be SLR

Awesome camera!
I did about 3 months of research before settling on this model.
Buy this, if you want a camera compact enough to fit in your pocket and has a lot of functionalities only available with SLRs (but definitely not an SLR).

Other cameras that came close were:
Canon PowerShot 9.0MP Digital Camera (SX110 IS),
Sony 9.1MP Digital Camera With 15X Optical Zoom (DSC-H50),
Panasonic Lumix 10.1MP Digital Camera (DMCFZ28K),
Canon PowerShot 10.0MP Digital Camera (A2000 IS).

You might also want to take a look at them (all extended zoom type).
The main factor that made me choose this over the first 3 was it was small enough to fit in your pocket. Last one is about the same size, but less functionality and 6x zoom.
Sony DSC-H50 probably gives the best quality pix, but won't fit in your pocket (at which point, I rather just buy an SLR).

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5S point & shoot w/SLR results

I have been wanting this camera for several years. Wanted a camera with a big zoom & wide angle, especially for ski trips, and for work, real estate appraiser. Point & Shoot with lens that has SLR specs/28mm wide angle to 10x optic zoom. Many features, maybe more than needed but doesn't affect the performance. In the movie mode, the zoom feature works.
Having used the camera for several months now, I love it!! It does everything
I ask for & more.
I would recomend this camera to anyone looking to take great pictures!!
