Analog video tape degrades over time, and if you are like me you probably have a lot of family memories recorded on VHS tapes that continue to suffer signal loss over time, especially if improperly stored. Though I have the equipment to digitally capture and edit the video to my computer, it is time consuming and requires considerable hard drive space prior to burning to DVD or video CD. Machines like this one capture the raw video in one easy step, or you can edit scenes if you have the time and inclination. At the very least you have halted the process of decay, and hopefully can go back later to give it a more professional look.
This was not the first time I have purchased a product that was "factory
refurbished", and I have found that in many cases such products are little used if used at all, and still come with a factory warranty which is an advantage over buying a "used" product. DOES NOT WORK SO FAR.!

As stated to be tested and working I frankly don't know by who. This product does not work from day one out of the box.
It keeps repeating that there is no signal going to any component on the source list except the TV . No AV, no HDM1/DV1, no HDM12. I have other equipment working quite well on this connection. I have an electronic whiz coming over in an hour to investigate this Panasonic DMR-ES40V DVD Recorder. If it's a DUD I'd kindly ask that you remit my funds back to my account.Lire l'avis complet...

Competent Dual Recorder _Facile usance & Immense issue

Panasonic steps up ^ with this one. Produces stunning clear pictures through playback with VHS or DVD ; DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD_ROM /VCD.. (Sound is reproduced clearly as well).
Especially with playback of VHS recordings, The video is astonishing, "greatly enhanced". Nothing used before could even come close to matching this Recorder's (FF)_&_(REV)speeds. Scanning through video was never easier. The Navigation Menu provides an easy way to record multiple videos/clips on to a single DVD disk. There are also features for customizing your own DVD introduction screens with seperate chapter settings for each video/clip desired. All the features one would expect are extant. This RECORDER is great for recording TV programs while one is away from the TV & for converting VHSs to DVDs ; DVDs to VHSs , or recording to [either form] from an input source (such as A/V and DV "with easy access front ports"). The only thing that it falls short of is an internal Hard Drive for recording and replay. However both the VHS & DVD recorders facilitate and accomplish the same purpose. Works great with nice features.

Works great with nice features. Was having difficulties dubbing from VHS to DVD at first but it was because I did not read the instruction manual. Now that I have read the manual, it works great!

Good when it works

while I assume when this was new it worked well but it crashes sometimes (have to unplug power) and restart the machine. Able to make several DVDs but ruined a few DVDs since you have to "close the project" to get the DVD to burn enough to use on DVD players.

Clearly a product that must have seemed modern in its in day (early 2000s?) but feels dated now.

Panasonic DMR-ES40VS DVD Recorder / VCR Recorder

I am extremely impressed with the quality of recording on DVDs, even at the lond 6 or 8 hour mode. This recorder offers VCR+ so to record off the air you can just enter the code and not have to enter all the details of date/time/channel/etc.

I purchased this recorder to convert my many VHS tapes to DVD. There are some subtleties that I am still learning about, but Panasonic support is available 7 days a week and can answer most questions with one call to an 800 number or on the internet 24/7.

Be prepared to spend long hours doing a conversion from VHS because it happens in real time mode, i.e. 6 hours for a 6 hour tape plus setup time. For this reason I purchased more than one unit.

The biggest benefit of using DVDs instead of VHS tapes is cost. I find DVD media on sale at 20 cents per blank disk and add them to a 200 disk album for storage. A felt tip marker identifies disk contents.Lire l'avis complet...

This product has been around a long time, is very durable and easy to repair. very user friendly and handy.to use. The best in it's class.

Works GREAT even the remote!

kAs an older unit I was skeptical, but it arrived well packed and so far is working great. I wanted it to get my old VHS tapes onto DVD's and it is doing the job very well and is easy to operate!

Used DVD VHS converter

It was not obvious from the photo that the cover door to the VHS compartment was missing. Does not effect the functionality but would have been nice to inform upfront
