Awesome Phone, as long as you're not far from an outlet

This phone works great. Never had a problem with it. Almost never freezes or gives me any problems. My biggest complaint is that its battery life is pathetic. I even bought an extended 2800mAh battery, which requires a special battery door that has a big squar lump in the back that increases the phone's already considerable size. But even if I make no calls or use it at all, it won't even last 8 hours without needing a charge. With the standard battery, it doesn't even last 5 hours. I have to keep rechargers handy wherever I go. At home, at the office, in the car... everywhere! My only other complaint is the camera is pretty lame, even by cell phone standards. Keyboard is good sized and easy to use, and I have big hands. I've used it as an MP3 player, and it does pretty good (though not perfect). I realize this phone is out of date now, but from what I've read about current smart phones, most don't seem much better, as the biggest complaint always seems to be battery life, even for newer palm phones like the Pre or Pixi, and also Blackberry's. Anyway, you can get these for a good price on eBay, and it's a good solid deal if you want a smart phone but don't demand the latest and greatest.Lire l'avis complet...

Older workhorse, but still good.

I have two of these; I bought the second one in case the first one stops working.
It's a Palm. It runs the Palm OS. It is a better sounding phone than other Palm models. The Internet is slow, but it's there. It has a touch screen. They have a tendency to freeze up, especially after just being charged; if not for that I would have rated it Excellent. I have a Nokia E61 Smartphone, and a BlackBerry 8830. The Blackberry is actually a bit better, has never frozen up on me, but it has no touch screen, and I can't use it on RIM's servers because the PIN is locked. It is a better phone, and if you can use RIM's servers, it's great. But being on Verizon with EVDO this is almost as good. It has a better music player than either the Nokia or the BB, it's a little smaller and more comfortable. I am using mine on PagePlus and have no problems with service. You get a signal, even in fringe areas where other phones fail. The menus are easy and intuitive. The camera could be better, if that's important, look elsewhere. But I buy a phone to use it primarily as a phone, and this does the job better than a lotof others. EMail work with any provider, and setting it up is a snap. Good selection of apps, and since it older the apps are well weathered; the down side being people are focusing less on new apps for the Palm OS. But you can find anything you want to run on it. The biggest drawback is no WiFi.Lire l'avis complet...

Useful palm phone

I'm hooked on Palm PDAs. So I saw the Centro as a chance to get rid of the PDA and do both on the cell phone. The screen is very small, and the power port is a weak link. When I got my old Centro from Verizon, it wasn't necessary to have a data plan for texting. After about two years of pocket wear and knocking around, the charging port became fragile, meaning that I had to sit and hold the plug "just right" so it would charge for around 1.5 hr/day. That situation didn't last too long. First I went to Verizon (VZ); they wanted to renew my contract for two years and give me some other phone. No, I want my centro, but I want it to charge up. Then they wanted to sell me a battery $40+tax+shipping ($8 for two on eBay+0tax+0shipping). But the battery didn't solve the problem, so I decided to buy a used Centro. (I'm close to retirement and don't want a 2yr commitment! VZ wanted $149+tx+sh for a replacement without contract.) The new Centro ($63+0+0) worked just fine; was in good shape and it charged on its own! Verizon 611 service got the new phone up and running in five minutes with no complaining that I didn't buy it from them.

A little duct tape can keep the pocket lint out of the charging port. The keyboard is "tactile" to your fingernails--'way too small for your fingers. The coating of the keys is so shiny that it's hard to find the special characters like + / * $ ! . So touch typing is definitely out.

Pros: it's a Palm PDA!!!, it's light, it's loud enough, it works well with bluetooth. Can send&receive pictures and text while talking on the phone! Good touchscreen dialing pad. Good tech support from VZ & Palm.

Cons: Verizon stores are the pits--keep away! Battery drain is significant; must charge daily, especially in weak signal areas. Shiny key coverings. Small screen. Poor design of charging port. Low-res camera.

My Palm PDA isn't lost. When my cell phone days are over, my trusty T|X is standing by to keep me organized.

Nice smartphone if you don't want a data plan!

My wife was interested in getting a smartphone with Verizon for just syncing calendars, etc. Verizon requires an extra $30 per month data plan on any smartphone made after Nov 2008. This phone and a few others (see http://corusa.com/blog/2009/07/05/verizon-wireless-forced-data/) don't require data plans but sync with windows and OSX (my OS of choice) with 'The Missing Sync' app. The phone has a small keyboard, so not good if you are a heavy texter, but the apps on it work fine, either via a stylus or using your finger. If you have large fingers, I wouldn't recommend it.

Before you buy a phone aftermarket like this, make sure the seller guarantees it will activate on the Verizon network, by asking the seller for the ESN and then calling Verizon about it before you buy it. I trusted the seller and didn't do that, and things worked out fine. But, it is better to be safe than sorry.

Wish it had WIFI, but oh well.

Another thing, if you never want to connect to the VZ data network with this, call Verizon and tell them to put a data block on your line to avoid unintended data connects. That will also block video/photo text messaging, but will still allow standard texting...

I wonder?????

I got this phone right when it came out, I like getting them when they first cokme out on first software upgrade, and seeing how the phone behaves. Well I don't know if anyone else had this problem, but mine would always have a spot different areas each time, next to messages logo that wouldnt respond to start. That happened like 6 months after I got this phone, and it wasn't that much of a problem, because, there's a cursor pad. Used that until the phone behaved as the 700P did when you go out of the messages or when the V (check) appears then the phone will freeze, battery removals. Supposed to be better then the 700p, which i had only 1 problem with. The msg freezing. I wonder if this is a downgrade or upgrade. it has a trackpad (upgrade) but the freezing is either the same, or a downgrade, as it was supposed to be better.

This phone lasted a total of 8 months and worked ok except for the lagging and freezing. This phone ended up getting wet, and I got an insurance replacememnt to see if the features were different, or if I got a phone that was fluky. So I used this phone until it had the same issues with the touchscreen but was every other time I used it, so I kept in wait for my contract to go up. Theres a button on the side thats supposed to go to your camera, but it locked the phone somehow and the qwerty couldn't function.

Ended up upgrading to a different phone (BB 8830) and I was glad I did. However the trackball went out on that, and I decided, I'm going to stay with simple feature phones.

The pros and cons of the Palm Centro.

I will jump right in to it. The Centro has a small QWERTY keyboard(keypad) which is farely easy to type on for me. It has a good touchscreen, decent size and okay resolution. I however do not like the fact of how difficelt it is to get your email up and running, my device is for verizon and the wireless sync will simply not let me sync my email and i dont know if it is always like that or if i need to contact verizon to take care of the problem. The browser(blazer) is nice, it is fast and gets the job done. The operating system is just right, its fast, easy to utilize and is dynamic. The centro is lagging behind in the multimedia department though, it has only a 2.5mm headphone jack and i can not find a facebook app for it. Despite the shortcomings i will say it is a good device because it does what it says and it is a very straight forward easy device that is good for kids, adults, and buisness users.Lire l'avis complet...

Palm Treo 755-P Verizon Wireless Cell Phone

The Palm operating system is much easier than current OS. For those who don't want to be connected to the internet it is easy to install your phone book and daily schedules without worry that someone is going to hack into your internet connection. It operates very well as a phone also. I have used Palm Treos for the last 15 years and I see no reason to change now. I am glad these phones were still available at a reasonable price as Palm ceased manufacturing these phones in 2007.Lire l'avis complet...

A Verizon Smart Phone that does NOT require data plan

If you want a QWERTY keypad, plus a phone that will text and keep your contacts in one place, the Palm Centro is it. Plus with easily available free games on the web and free ringtones (program called minitones takes any MP3 and coverts it to a ring tone), your son or daughter will have a custom phone for not alot of Cash. Used ones in decent condition can be found for about $70 on eBay. I didn't want to pay to surf the web on Verizon's new mando data plans, and this phone does not require data plan access. Oh yeah and the phone and speakerphone work great too!
Minuses-
--bluetooth headsets don't work very well with this phone.
--every once in a while the phone reboots itslef.

This Palm Treo is a very Logical Smart Phone!

This is a great phone! It is easy to navigate, everything is set up quite logically, the keyboard is small but easy to use, the touch screen works great and the main button and keys are very durable and raised. It also has infrared!! Downside, it is an older phone so there is no current email application available, you must get to email via the web.Lire l'avis complet...

Palm Treo 755P

Pros: Reliable, great texting interface in chat-like format, decent signal strength, good battery life, v. good audio quality, well designed keyboard, has both buttons and touch-screen interface, OS has been very stable, many many apps available and for every conceivable purpose.

Cons: large and rather fat, marginal battery life when using web browser, obsolete web browser for which Palm maintains no recent updates (lacks java updated support, some graphics won't load, jams when loading larger web pages), touch screen fussy and easily false-triggers commands, external buttons placed on side/front too easily trigger commands by mistake, headphone socket odd size (useless for 1/8" i-pod type jack), not a true GPS capable phone, fussy to navigate, lags/stalls when changing between apps, Palm's product support is quite poor, 755P is getting outdated but still remains a good discount phone.
