Reliable workhorse with great features for photographing textual documents

The Pentax Optio A10 is now quite a dated camera. It does not support SDHC cards and thus one is limited to below 2G SD cards, if you can find them anywhere else other than E-Bay. Most retail sellers no longer carry them. That said, the Optio A10 has several redeeming features. I predominantly use the Optio A10 for photographing documents at archives. The text mode function that automatically adjusts contrast for optimal text pictures, an infra-red remote capability, a plug for an AC/DC cord that works off any power source, and an easy screw mounting socket for a tripod are definite pluses in this regard. However, unlike the Optio S6 and S7, the settings do not remain once the camera is turned off and the bottom access slide panel to the SD card and battery requires the camera to be taken off the mount (the S6 has a side access panel meaning the camera can stay on the mount to switch out the SD card). My last Optio A10 was good for about 900,000 pages of documents, before problems were encountered with the power and wearing out of the AC plug; the AC Adapter D-AC8 just no longer stays in tight and the power abruptly turns off or drains the battery. I bought this camera mostly due to the good price and the fact that I already have all the existing ancillary equipment that fits. I actually just bought a brand new Sony Cybershot camera with a higher megapixel range but it actually does not take as nice pictures as the old Optio A10. Some idiot designer also put the AC plug beside the tripod screw mount on the bottom of the camera; in other words, you cannot access the AC plug when the camera is mounted! I also own a Pentax Optio A40 which really was never any good, and hardly an improvement over the Optio A10 - it takes crappy text pictures with purple streaks. Great quality photos, convienent size, but not durable and not quick.

I am now on #3 of the Pentax A10. I have been using one since 2006. It takes excellent quality photos. The small size is convenient.
This camera is not quick. The number of seconds it takes to hold down the button to take a picture is disappointing. Don't expect any action shots (Not that you should from any point and shoot camera, but my phone takes faster shots than this camera but not near the quality).
This camera is not durable. If you accidentally drop it, expect it to not open again. The only reason I've had to replace mine 2x is from a minor drop to the floor (once off an end table and once out of my hand). Both times that's all it took for it to stop working.
~~ As long as you're careful with this camera and don't plan on taking any quick shots, this would be a great little camera for you. And compared to other point and shoot cameras, this is a superior model. Obviously I thought so or I wouldn't be on my 3rd one!Lire l'avis complet...

For those who take a lot of pictures where the final quality matters most.

This truly is a pocket sized camera. Just a bit smaller than the average mans wallet. This is a camera that you can take with you all of the time. the large display screen makes it easy to just point and shoot. I have owned quite a few digital cameras over the years. In the end what matters most is the final product. The pictures. This camera has them all beat hands down.
The menu functions are easy to read and understand without having to read the users manual cover to cover. This would be the perfect camera for anyone, especially for those who are not technically inclined.
It comes with a charging station to charge the lithium ion battery, which I have yet to run down. Even after a whole day of shooting pictures on the job site. The station makes it easy to know where the camera is all of the time and that it is always fully charged when ever I need it.
I would recommend this camera to those people who take a lot of pictures where the final quality matters most. Anyone who sells on ebay knows that taking the pictures is most of the work. Not having to edit those pictures makes it even better.
Any designer, interior or otherwise, who need photos that truly represent items to be considered by clients. Where the finest details need be documented. This is the camera that does it all.
The only draw back that I could find is the little usb cover is smaller than I would like it to be. Being a guy with big fingers. I have to fiddle with it a bit to get it open. Realistically not that big of a deal compared to the overwhelming pluses this camera has to offer.Lire l'avis complet...

good product, good value. very happy with my purchase.

I lost my camera and bought this one just as something in between until I can afford one I really want. It takes excellent macro and scenery shots which is what I bought the camera for. I still haven't explored all of the options yet, as it has tons of functions, but it takes great photos on auto settings if you're not into all the bells and whistles.Lire l'avis complet...

This is a replacement for my A10, which finally gave up the ghost. The price was great.

It is in excellent condition, with all the accessories.

EXCELLENT CAMERA - EASY TO CARRY ANYWHERE!

Pentax Performance at a small price!
