Suspenseful, entertaining, graphic.

This movie has three essential elements I desire in a movie: good acting, believable plot, minimal cheese. If you're a Sean Connery fan and you don't like this movie, something is wrong with you. He's tough, smart, and stuck in a situation of unimaginable stress and danger. The acting is great, not just Connery's role but the supporting cast as well. Of course, it helps if you like Sci Fi movies since this has the outer space feel. Outland (DVD, 1997)

Outland is just about the best science-fiction movie I have seen. Sean Connery is a Federal Marshal on a mining planet. These types of planets are manned by engineers and workers, miners, and periferal employees that include doctors and prostitutes for entertainment. Administrators are paid by the volume they produce and this operation has the highest production around. Unfortunately, they have the highest incidents of suicide. Connnery discovers that the production is due to illegal drugs that not only make the men work harder, but some eventually go crazy with paranoia and commit suicide. Connery must discover who is responsible for the importation of these drugs and stop them. To do this he will have to make a lot of enemies; lots of people including some of his cops are being paid off. . . Intriguing

Sean Connery's performance is great, as you'd expect, as a marshall duking it out with crooks confined to a mining space station. It is shot almost entirely inside the station. Although the sound effects and music are very dated, keep in mind, this was made in 1981, it is still a believable space flick nonetheless. The plot is believable. An surprisingly enjoyable space fare filling any movie night.

This rare 1980s jem is one of the best underground space adventues no one ever saw. Starring Sean Connery, and Peter Boyle as rival intrests on opposite sides of a deadly trend occuring on a titanium mine on one of Jupiter's moons. Connery, a washed up federal marshal with family problems gave one of his best performances as the right side of law and order as the mine is crushed under the weight of drug smugglers, corrupt politicans, suicides, dirty cops, bought and sold management, and hit men. OUTLAND with Sean Connery excellent Sci-Fi Thriller

This is one of my favorite movies for quite a few reasons. First, it stars Sean Connery. Second, movie is an older movie made in 1981 and not many people probably know that Sean Connery made this movie. Third it is an excellent SciFi thriller that takes place in the future on another planet. Sean Connery is playing the part of somebody who never makes waves, and that is why they send him to this planet. There is bad stuf happening there and they send him there because they know he will just ignore what is happening. Surprise, he is tired of doing nothing and he is going to try to stop the bad things from happening. I will not be giving anything away about what happens but if you like dialog, action, excitement, a family man and a completely different movie than any other I have ever seen. So many movie plots are made over and over. Not this one it is completely original. To this day no one has copied this movie plot. This movie is R rated because there is some great action scenes in it. It does not have any sex scenes in it. It is because of the action scenes that it gets its R rating. I bought this movie because I like a lot of the older movies, probably because I am 65 years old. High Noon in Space

I bought this movie primarily because I remembered watching it on television back in the mid-80's and really enjoyed it then. I also bought it because I thought Sean Connery did an awesome job acting in it. I loved his character, how he refused to give in to peer pressure and attempted bribes, how he made sure he did the 'right thing' even though he could have made more money by looking the other way. One thing that surprised me was that I never realized how censored the televised movie was until I watched the dvd/video. There was a lot more nudity and sex than I realized from watching it on TV!

I love Sean Connery. He is an awesome actor. He plays the head marshal on a mining facility. His wife wants to return to Earth; he's not ready to go back.
Miners start going crazy and dying on a regular basis. He feels it's his job to investigate. Through a series of detective work he shuts down the drug operation going on, which forces the facility's boss to hire two gunmen to kill the marshal. The marshal then discovers that no one is willing to help him (except an old, broken-down doctor) as he prepares to fight the killers.

When I first saw the movie, I thought the sets were awesome, the special effects were incredible, and the story one of a kind. I never knew about "High Noon" until I was older. Now, with today's technology, the sets look dated and the effects somewhat lame. But the story still stands on its own. A man who could have looked the other way and made a pile of money chooses to go it alone because it's the right thing to do. Still a great movie.

The actor playing the villain did a great job as well. I thoroughly despised him the first time I watched; I still despised him when I watched it on DVD. I thought, overall, all of the actors did a good job. Granted, one of the killers was just plain stupid and deserved to die for his stupidity. Get the bluray instead of the dvd.

The dvd image quality left a lot to be desired. If you're interested in this movie I'd suggest getting the bluray. The bluray quality got a okay review on highdefdigest.

Also note the widescreen is formatted for a 4 by 3 screen. I had to magnify the image to get a full 1080p screen.Lire l'avis complet...

There is a new sheriff in town.....

This movie was made in the 80's. It looks it. The special effects were not very inspiring or breathtaking.
That being said, let me explain why this is a good movie.

First, this is the typical western plot from so many good western movies. But this is in space. Call it "Shootout at the O.K. Corral" meets "2001: A Space Odyssey".

Second: Sean Connery. Need I say more?

Third: Without giving the plot away, it will keep you interested with the twists.

But you have to do one thing, while experiencing this movie.
Try not to laugh at the VERY dated special effects.

Great scifi

Great!! This is probably the most underated sci-fi films ever. A sci-fi remake of the western Hi Noon. Connery plays a marshal on a mining colony on Jupiter's moons Io. He discovers that the miners are given a drug that makes them working but causing them to become pycotic later and commiting suciey. The film is highly effective and ingaging. Underated at time and still ignored today. When you consider the juvenile albiet better special effects sci-fi films today, this is a breath of fresh air of maturity. 5 starsLire l'avis complet...
