Great for Paintball!

I recently bought this product after seeing the videos of our field that another player took. Upon receiving I scanned through the owners manual, put the batteries in, and fired it up. I mounted it to the barrel on my paintball marker with one of the provided clamps and used it the following weekend at a local field. Wow! watching the videos afterwards with friends was great! The quality of the picture was excellent, the sound was good, and of course the action was superb! (sorry, had to throw that in) It is very easy to operate, one button to turn on, one to start and stop recording, and one to toggle through functions. The optics are good for the price, it isn't the best late evening though, videos get harder to see. Overall, I would reccomend one to anyone who wants a low price, easy to operate, video camera system. It's definatly fun watching you and your friends battling it out on the paintball field!Lire l'avis complet...

Good entry level camera

For the money, you can't beat this little thing. I bought it to capture footage of myself & friends on our motorcycles at the track. After much research, this is the smallest & cheapest alternative to mounting your own camcorder to the gas cap of the bike. It takes good video, the sound on my recordings is all white noise*. (*I had the cam mounted to the side of my helmet. Up to 60mph you still pick up engine noise, 60-100 it's all wind noise and over 100mph the mic doesn't pick anything else up) Mounted behind the windscreen I'm sure I'd get better sound quality. I noticed that in my application, the camera experienced a bit of vibration. This didn't effect the picture quality when it recorded. I say when because due to the vibrations caused by the engine, the batteries began to actually spin within the camera. This caused the contacts to scrub all the zinc off of the battery contact surface, rendering the batteries, and camera useless. A small piece of duct tape on the side of the battery, to essentially wedge the batteries into the camera and it works like a charm. I have to also recommend the Sandisk Ultra 2 SD cards. They have a quicker write speed than a traditional card and the video quality is noticable improved. To be fair, there are much better camera systems out there, but nothing remotely close to this price. Again, a good camera to start out with.Lire l'avis complet...

Perfect little cam for filming my bike rides.

I use this camera mounted on my motorcycle. I share the movies on facebook and my website, so the resolution is perfect (on the highest setting). If the resolution were any higher, they would take much too long to convert into flash and upload onto the net, AND since the net has limitations on what can be displayed the images come out perfect. Plus, I got this for $70 (USED) here on eBay and it was worth every penny.

If you upgrade to a 2GB memory stick, make sure you re-format it to the FAT format (not FAT32 or NTFS) otherwise your movies will be cut short at 5 minutes or not work at all. The only downfalls are that the audio is overwhelmed by wind noise at highway speed (normal for most cams) and the quality is poor in low light conditions (going through tunnels, indoors, etc.).

Overall, very happy with this camera.

Some limitations, but a great action camera at a decent price.

Excellent value because I only spent 8 dollars for a used camera. They are now obsolete and any new one you buy is pretty old stock. I gave it an Average for ease of use because you need pretty darn perfect vision to see the little icons for setting the camera up. One of the things that made me choose this one is it uses standard alkaline batteries, so no need to worry about having the batteries need recharging in the middle of filming. Just keep some spare AA batteries with the cam and you'll always be good to go! Even though the max size you can use is 2GB, (which is enough time for anything I'm going to film) I like that this camera uses standard size SD cards. In my opinion those tiny mini SD cards just don't cut it to well with everyday handling unless you have dainty hands and fingers. I don't! I tried the handle bar mount on a quad and it works fine. I also plan on using it on a snowmobile and a jet ski and don't foresee any difficulties as far as that goes. I still haven't decided if I'd trust that giant elastic band used as part of the helmet mount. Especially after it's been used and stretched out to the max for a while! But because I don't plan on ever mounting the cam to a helmet I'm not worried. To bad they don't have some kind of adapter so you could mount this camera to a typical 1/4 20 threaded set up which most optical gizmos utilize. Oh well, such is life! Even thought it's no longer manufactured this ATC-2K action cam is a great little item which may be a stepping stone to a better grade of camera with more bells and whistles some of you might consider in the future. Or to some of you, it may be all the camera you'll ever need. One things fer sure, it's an awful lot less painful to loose one of these on the trail or smack it with a branch then it would with a pricey Action Pro.Lire l'avis complet...

Oregon Scientific ATC2K Action Camera

I have been doing action camera stuff for a bit now, with several differing set-ups from high line bullet cams and DVRs that cost $200+ to the Wally World types. I have to say the ATC2K is a good mid-level camera.

The ATC2K is a all-in-one action camera, that records to SD cards (up to 2GB) and is powered by 2 AA batteries. I feel these are strengths for the mid-level user. You don't have to worry about proprietary batteries that need 3 hours to charge for one hours use..if you need more time when the power dies..pop in a couple of AA. If you need more memory, pop in a new SD card.

It is not the camera to use if you plan to attempt to make a commercial film, but to capture your activities for YouTube and the like it is more than serviceable. The only real weakness is it's sound recording, which is basically unusable...the price you pay for a camera that is waterproof and submersible.

The camera is tough...like rhino tough. I have used it for everything from paintball, motorcycle riding, to giving it to my 18 month old son in the bath. I had a homemade mount fail at @45 mph on my motorcycle and it went skidding across the highway. Scuffs and scratches, but it still works fine...not to mention getting awesome footage of the 'crash'.

Bottom line..there are better cameras out there...but most are not as tough and dependable as the ATC2K. The only thing that would cause me to give this camera up is for a newer version with more memory.

Very practical for what its deigned to do and more

I got mine for $45 + $15 ship new unopen, For the price $60 brand new on ebay is well worth the deal, but I personally would not pay more than that for another unless I upgrade to atc3k or better. Works great for video but not for sound as you can bearly hear anything. Can be used on your bike, skiing, swimming, etc. and holds up well. Easy to attach to a window visor to record your driving. If you have a well lit room or use a motion detector to light up room it is very easy to hide to watch the maid, babysitter, snoopy guests, etc. I keep finding a lot of great uses for this where other cameras are not practical. Batteries last a long time, 2gb SD card seems to be enough for my needs for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Very durable with a very nice clean full color picture quality.
Only drawbacks are the bottons are hard to push to turn on and off and the dinky menu diagrams are too small to read what does what. Easy to hook up to a tv but for your computer you have to format a seperate file to run on fat16 because it says it wont upload to a fat32 file. If you get one used try to ask for the instructions for the fat16 file setup. Low light works but you lose color and clarity. I read in reviews below 30 degrees is a challenge for this camera so they suggest using lithium batteries for best performance. Reviews also mention very durable but not bullet proof so you gotta try to be reasonable about the punishment you dishout. Also I noticed some slight very minor pauses between frames but at 32 frames per second is expected to see that and hardly noticable when you playback.
Bottom line: I rated as average because sound quality is not good and hard to push bottons, otherwise it it will perform what it was designed to do and a little more plus its compact size makes it very practical where other brands require added accessories that overall will cost a bunch more. If you dont pay too much for this you should be satisfied. But if your picky for premium picture quaility and has sound then save up and get something better than ATC3K.

Mediocre at Best

This product offers mixed results. It's ok for the budget minded and for use outside in daylight but has poor video in dimm lighting. You also tend to see jagged edges specially on vertical objects such as poles. You'll need to use lithium batteries. Alkalines just don't last. When I tested the battery's longevity it was like this: One 1 min video, one 40 sec video and one 12.5 min video. After this the battery was dead. Rechargeables might probably last less so you might want to have several pairs of backups. The mounting options are good, you have for helmet and handle bar. The LCD display is hard to see, you're better off being a cyclops with a flashlight to be able to look at it well.

Overall this cam is ok as a backup but don't expect too much from it. I suggest aiming for a Go Pro Hero Wide and a Contour HD for your footage.

Great Value for the Money!!!!!!!!!!!

I just tried it for the first time. I had it mounted to the handle bars of my MC. I taped for about 1 hr. It worked great but next time I will try the helmet mount as the video was a little shaky. The audio wasn't very good but what can you expect when blasting through the canyons. Overall it works great and is easy to use. It is just what I wanted to video my friends and myself while riding...Lire l'avis complet...

ATC-2k

Great camera for its price. This product is perfect for snowboarders who want to record tricks who dont have a large budget to spend on a waterproof camera. The camera is small enough to be portable also. I am happy that i purchased one and I assure any buyer that this is a great product for its value. Also, it works better with the 2gb memory card rather than the stock memory which is not sufficient for a descent recording session.Lire l'avis complet...

Very very cool

First off, keep in mind this is a cheap camera. It's not super high quality. But, for what you pay for, you get the most bang for your buck, and then some.

Every review I have read on this product has been dead on. It's light, it's cheap, and it does what it says it going to do. Take good quality video of you getting into action.

I use this camera for paintball. I have this mounted on a weaver rail on my Tippmann A5, and it takes amazing shots. And it will take a beating as well. The only downfall, low light. To counter this, I added a flashlight. The 1gig card will take about 30min of video, and the 2gig about an hour (this is set at the higher settings of 640X480). At this resolution, it won't look stunning on your 42" LCD you have at home, but on youtube or other video sites, it will look great.
