Great value, sharp knive, unique system.

So, the Opinel line is incredibly popular around the world, with knives sold in the millions. I own two #8s now, one in the carbone (carbon steel) and this one in INOX (stainless steel). The shape of the blade is nice for garden work, and I use it with cutting stems and fruit. The blade resists rust, which my carbone does not. So far, the edge remains sharp and takes a good sharpening. I very much like Opinel knives for their simplicity, their steel quality, and their unique locking system. Recommend highly.Lire l'avis complet...

Does what I want it to do

Let me start by saying that I was very impressed with the quality of this specific Opinel knife. I have 4 others in varying sizes and steel type. I am impressed by all of them but this one takes the cake. Smooth opening, smooth lock, and the shape and size are fantastic. Its an 08 but when folded is closer to the 07 in size. Needless to say very pocket friendly. I wish it came in carbon steel but still very satisfied. I wont be using it as a heavy duty knife but to cut boxes open, small vines, and for food prep it performs without any issue. Good buy. Lire l'avis complet...

Decent knife

Opinel makes good, GOOD pocket knives & this one... well, it's okay. Seriously sharp, light in the hand. Reason I gave it 3 instead of the 5 I gave my other two Opinels is that the blade is much looser in the handle than they are. Not wobbly or poorly pinned, just so little friction at the pivot point that you can 'sling' it open. Not necessarily a bad thing, but the collar on this one is very loose & rotates pretty freely. Given that this collar is the only thing keeping that scary-sharp, loose-swinging blade from closing on my fingers, I took off two stars. Gonna see if I can pop off the collar, squeeze it really good with some pliers & re-attach it.Lire l'avis complet...

Same great blade as a standard Opinel knife with a better 'handle'

This knife has the same blade as a standard Opinel but, with a better shaped handle. The curved handle shape is easy to hold and comfortable in use which makes it better than the standard Opinel handle.Lire l'avis complet...

Poorly made

This knife is not typical of Opinel but it was sent to me by someone who did not care. The blade had a huge burr on one side that had to be polished off before the edge would cut anything. The locking ring is so loose it represents a safety hazard. I will have to adjust it. The polish on the SS blade is very poor compared to past experience. Opinel quality is suffering so beware and be ready to remediate blatant sins.Lire l'avis complet...

Great

These are great little knives. I have several. Hold an edge well, very handy for the little cutting jobs around the house and outdoors. Locking blade is a great feature. Not a "Tactical knife" at all, just a good, solid tool.Lire l'avis complet...

Great little knife!

Threw it in my pack and hit the trails in Colorado. Great little backup pocket knife that’s so light you forget it’s there. Very sharp blade that holds an edge and is easy to resharpen. Spine is a perfect 90 degrees that throws excellent sparks off a ferro rod. Worth the small price and you’ll get your money out of it.Lire l'avis complet...

Opinel Garden No 8 knife

I purchased (2) of these knives - one as a 65th b-day present for my friend and one for myself. It is a perfectly simplistic tool that works as advertised - easy to use and convenient to carry or have on the counter. We both use our knives to cut fruit/etc when making drinks - what could be better? Buy one or a few as gifts, you'll be a hero...........Lire l'avis complet...

Weeds

I live in a very woodsy area. Lots of vines...etc. Carry at least three blades with me at all times. I dig, prune, cut vines, etc. So far this knife has performed well. I really put them through hell. I like Switz. Thought I would see how this performed. The blade is thinner than my victorinox. Sharp. So far so good. Interesting locking system. First time trying the reputed Opinel brand.. (perhaps the last..)

When I received the knife a small chip was clearly visible near the tip of the knife. As this is likely a defect in workmanship, I cannot blame the seller, although they should probably check for such defects more closely in the future. To the layman it may seem like a superficial flaw, but even a small chip so close to the tip means that the point of the knife is much more likely to break. I have to wonder how high of quality these supposedly fine French knives really are. Its a nice knife if it wasn't for the chip. Will have to see how it holds up in general. Chip in the worst place, structurally.Lire l'avis complet...
