Great Album

A soundtrack to the movie "Once Were Warriors", a 1994 New Zealand film about a family torn apart by an abusive father while the mother tries to keep it together. I bought it specifically to gain access to the track "What's the Time Mr Wolf", the only song release by the band Southside of Bombay and a tune that -- by itself -- makes the album worth buying.

Most (if not 100%) of the songs were used in the movie, so unlike some "soundtracks" put out nowadays that are nothing but poorly themed compilations, the whole album boasts the distinction of having been featured in the film. The songs are wonderfully placed in the film, and being able to hear them in their entirety made for a deeper appreciation of each track. I recommend renting this film/book and the follow-up in both mediums, "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted?", if it is available in your area, then purchasing this soundtrack. Namaste.

Once Were Warriors - Haunting CD

This is a very powerful and disturbing film about a poor family in New Zealand who live with domestic violence, alcoholism and sexual abuse. The music evolves quite nicely alongside the film's dramatic themes.

The music is very striking and has an interestingly different cultural sound that is both refreshing and melodic. Enjoy this disturbing but excellent movie with it's equally haunting yet beautiful musical score.
