Simple to operate. Good sound quality. Very portable.

I bought a used one off Ebay. I bought it to record the band I'm in because a stereo digital audio recorder is more expensive.
Sound quality of this recorder is pretty good for a voice recorder, though it is mono only. It's easy to use, and has jacks for both an external mic and for headphones, although I found that the built in mic worked just as well as the external mic I tried. It also has it's own built in speaker.
I would have liked it to have a USB jack (it doesn't), but that is my only complaint. The device takes two AAA batteries, and they seem to last a long time in the device.

Olympus VN-240 Digital Voice Recorder

For a voice recorder, this on will do the job. It has no tape problems, because it uses no tape. It's all digital. I used it to record my last live music performance, in Hollywood. Granted, it's not what I'd call studio quality, but it's better than the tradition voice tape recorder. It's got voice activation, and it's got three quality modes. This was an inexpensive recorder. I use it with an amp line-out to the recorder, then playback through the amp. That allows for tweaking both input and output, and produces a better sound quality. This is not an audiofile's recorder. It is what it is: an inexpensive handheld compact recorder that reproduces an approximation of the input. Great little recorders. Easy to use.

I purchased two of these from eBay. Both were used. When I got them, both operated as they should. I keep one in each of the vehicles I own. I use them when shopping to remember prices of groceries each store has for the best deal next time I shop.

Very useful and durable.

This is a perfect size for taking notes or having a record of a meeting. From notes to oneself or directions to a new place - it is as simple as sliding the switch and pressing the button. It is simple - not a lot of room on the internal memory and there is not slot for additional memory - but for the price and depending on your need - this is a great little voice recorder. Compacted and Clear Playback

Bought the recorder to record my husbands snoring at night. He always said he didnt snore, well he knows different now:) Very easy to use once you read the instruction, which didn't come with it, but was able to find online. Don't get confused.

No, your smartphone does not replace the need to have a pocket voice recorder. I have purchased many of these. Some I label, "office", "car", "pocket."

I bought the Olympus VN-240 (32 MB, 4 Hours) Handheld Digital Voice Recorder to help me learn choir music. I sing in an amazing choir but I don't read music. By recording my part, I am able to practice at home and remain a strong addition to the choir. The price of the recorder matches the quality of sound. It does what I need it to do.
