Solid build quality, great glass.

I purchased this lens to go with the Panasonic GH4, I chose this lens over the Panasonic Lumix G X Vario 12-35mm f/2.8. The reason for that is build quality. The Olympus lens is all around metal and feels really well built. As where the Lumix seemed a bit on the rubber-plastic side such as on the focus ring and the lens itself.

The Olympus lens doesn't have O.I.S. but I rather stabilize if necessary in Premiere Pro, and with the 4K image on the GH4 you can stabilize so well and have plenty of room to re-frame if it comes to that.

The lens' image is great in my opinion, great lens to begin the MFT glass collection with, giving you a focal length of about 24-80mm with 2x crop, a little more in 4K = 2.3x. It has given me great video and photos as well. It has a virtually unnoticeable flicker when zooming in as opposed to the Lumix where it was noticeable, it all depends on what kind of work you do with your camera to know if that would be an issue for you.

Autofocus has worked well 98% of the time though I tend to use manual focusing most of the time. The other great feature is the focus ring, it can snap back to give you definite focus points giving you complete control on focusing when using a follow focus or fixed focal lengths, or you can snap it to endless turning and use to fine tune together with autofocus or whatever your method is.

I like the size and weight it gives the camera when mounted, the lens cap has center pressure levers allowing for easy on and off of the cap, even with sun hood on. Anyhow, I think it is a great lens for the price and overall great glass. You will not be disappointed.

Impressive but noticeably heavier

This is an impressive lens that feels so solid and precision that it makes you want to go out and use it. There is a trade off, and that is size and weight. For me the size is not really a problem since I had been using the Oly 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 kit lens from my old 4/3 camera with an adapter on my EM1, so this 12-40 is basically the same size but with a larger diameter lens (62mm v. 58mm). The weight difference is noticeable however. I like the extra bit of wide angle range and the wider, constant aperture. I have only shot some test images, but so far they look very good. The zoom and focus rings feel totally solid. I like the manual focus clutch too.Lire l'avis complet...

Sharp heavyweight

As advertised a quality set of optics. No complaint. Except two things: One I have it mounted on the smallish Olympus Pen F and my right hand firmly around the camera because of the weight causes me to inadvertently brush some of the buttons on the super menu with results I don't want. Also, if one leaves the MF ring in that position and turns on the power, you may take out of focus shots because the AF is turned off. Need to get used to these issues. I wish it were a bit lighter-suffer from arthritis in the thumbs!Lire l'avis complet...

Extraordinary Lens

Build quality the best I've seen. Color rendition is superlative. Pictures sharp at all f-stop settings. Somewhat lighter than its 4/3rds counterpart, the 12-60mm f2.8/4.0 lens, and unlike the 12-60mm lens requires no adapter on a micro-4/3rds camera. A must have for micro 4/3rds owners. Brilliant and instant push-pull auto-to-manual feature. Push-button hood feature that prevents accidental loss. Zoom and manual focus rings smooth as silk. Great value.

It would be perfect if it had the extra 20mm reach available on the 4/3rds 12-60mm lens.

A great allaround m43 lens

I own a Canon 60D with two general purpose lenses: Canon 15-85 (which i kinda liked it), and a Tamron 17-50 2.8 (which I loved although it did not have IS or USM like the Canon's).
Somehow, I looked for something lighter and eventually bought an Olympus OMD10 mark II, which I liked, but missed the Canon's sharpness I was used to.
For sure this should be blamed by the Olympus kit lens.
I eventually, bought this 12-40 PRO lens: It is great- it focuses fast, and have a great sharpness.
I guess I like it being a zoom lens allowing me to get results comparable to prime lens, and it is not so expensive.
Truly recommended.

Pro, like the name says.

I think this is the best all-around lense for MFT. For this price to get 24mm-80mm focal length with aperture of F2.8 all the way, it is a great deal. Take a half stop from the maximum aperture and you have images as crisp as they get. It's also really robust without being overly heavy.Lire l'avis complet...

Great Micro 4/3 Lens!

I have had this lens for about two months now and I am extremely happy with it. Combined with the Olympus EM5-II, it produces extremely sharp images. Focus speed is amazing compared to my old Nikon D7000 with the kit lens. Construction is top notch as well, with a solid feel and very smooth operation of focus and zoom dials. The only disadvantage that I see is the size. It is large for a 4/3 lens and sort of negates the size advantage that the Micro 4/3 system provides.Lire l'avis complet...

Excellent walk-around lens

I heard about this lens from watching a Tony Northrup video reviewing the Olympus MD II camera plus some lenses for it. Tony highly praised it, so I decided to get one. I can't comment on its durability because I've only had it for a few weeks, but it seems pretty solid, and I've enjoyed walking around with it. I wish it had more reach, but other than that, I'm happy with it. It's sharp, and you can get close to the subject for close-up photography. It's also small and light
I purchased a used copy of the lens for a good price (slightly less than half the new price), and it's in excellent condition. In that sense it's a very good value. From my experience so far, I'd be happy to pay full pop if that were all that's available. In all, if you have an Olympus camera, you can't go wrong with this lens.

THEE lens to own for your GH4.

This is my first professional lens for use on my GH4, and I must say, this will probably be THE LENS that is always on my camera. The FOV at 12mm is more than satisfactory for the cinematic look, giving me the coveted 24mm that directors love. The colors are lush and accurate, and the lens is quite sharp. For most of the shooting I will be doing, this lens will cover it. OH... and the manual focusing is superb! This lens acts as both an AF lens and with a click switches to a vintage lens. LOVE it.Lire l'avis complet...

My All Purpose Travel Lens

Solid construction. Constant 2.8 aperture throughout the zoom range. Well balanced on my Olympus OM-D EM-1. This will be my go-to travel lens with its 24-80mm (35mm equivalent) focal length range, covering 90+ percent of my image taking needs. Love this lens!Lire l'avis complet...
