Good pictures, great features, but behind the times with digital technology

Firstly I would recommend looking to online reviews of this camera for specific features, KEEPING IN MIND, this camera is from the late 90's and many of the reviews are too!

I bought this product as a cheap alternative to today's more expensive DSLRs.
For it's time this camera was a high grade hobby camera, not professional, but not beginner either.

If you want to take pictures and blow them up to the size of your TV don't buy this camera. If you want a cheap alternative DSLR to take nice quality photos for use on the internet or for personal use, etc. buy this camera.

The picture quality from a purely analogue perspective is fantastic.
Anything digital in this camera is subpar compared to any of todays DSLRs. The resolution is smaller, the processing time takes longer, etc.
Still, it has the features of a high quality camera, things you won't find in a $500 DSLR, like super Macro mode (which btw if fantastic on this camera).

I recommend looking at info about this thing on the web to find out if the specific features/capabilities it has are more valuable than the price and resolution, digital superiority, etc. of today's cameras. Consider your ultimate goal in buying a DSLR.

Last note: You'll have to buy a 128MB CF card from some internet site if you get this because that's the best it can do.

Huge value in older, high resolution technology. Incredible quality.

I have owned 3 of these cameras. I am an art professor who needs respectable image quality and adjustment features, and this camera was one of the first SLR style cameras to provide these features (especially an uncompressed TIFF image) for under $1000. When my first camera was stolen, I looked at replacement units that were now closer to $2000, and opted to re-purchase this older technology on eBay. Got one for $40. When that unit was accidentally damaged, I replaced it again with the same model, again on eBay. The camera may be only 2.5 Megapixels, but on the Super High Quality TIFF setting, I can save half-Meg images on the memory cards (I can get those for next to nothing as well). So I may have to keep a few cards on my person, but I get results comparable to newer $2000+ digital SLR camera's. If I were going to upgrade to a really expensive camera, I'd consider only Olympus and Nikon. It's a great camera.Lire l'avis complet...

Camera works perfectly. Pictures, however, are pale, lack color and contrast and have poor
latitude. My c2100L puts this camera to shame.

Digitally ...going back in time, reviewing a great digital camera of the late 80's-1990's

I owned this 1st generation digital camera in 1999, 22 years ago. I wanted simply to go back in time...it works as well as it did then.

Awesome gem!

Its my first SLR Camera and for the age of the camera, I must say I am very pleased. It gets the job done and is quite handy in the outdoors. Best purchase I have ever made.
