Odd Hours by Dean Koontz

Odd Hours is the fourth novel in the wonderful series of Odd Thomas. Written by, in my personal opinion - most definately the greatest author I can imagine, Dean Koontz. His fictional character Odd Thomas, is just brilliant. Absolutely superb. I am taken to another world whenever I read a book by Dean Koontz, and this particular novel Odd Hours, has definately stood up to it's reputation. I loved it as always with anything written by a truly genius author.
thankyou to you Mr Dean Koontz. And please, dont ever stop writing fiction, I would be lost without it.

Drunken redollection

I'm a little drunk, but I promise to speak nothing of the plot. Dean Koontz is infamous for his descriptive ramblings, which though inticate tend to leave the plot neglected for just long enough for a reader to lose interest. Koontz, aware of this folly, seems to break the habit around page 46. I'll admit that there is significance in the first forty or so pages, however as in book two where he is wandering around the underground I believe the plot could have been condensed. Thus far I've addressed only the first 40 some Odd pages. The story begins and as all good stories do, it draws you into it, so that if you yourself don't become Odd you feel so close as to perhaps be a departed spirit following him. The book raises many questions, but only answers enough to conclude a battle. The war may still be fought and truths be brought to light in a sequel if Odd can survive that is. It seems that Koontz having severely neglecting Thomas as merely another of his book a month characters, through his second and third appearances, has finally seen the Odd one's potential and has made a commitment to an interesting future for him. While I didn't care much for the second or third books, I'd suggest to anyone interested in Odd Hours that they at least read the enjoyable first book entitled Odd Thomas.Lire l'avis complet...

ODD HOURS LARGE PRINT 2008

Odd Thomas is back in this new Dean Koontz suspense novel. Thomas may be an ordinary fry cook, but he can communicate with the dead. After a harrowing showdown with evil last time, he is now trying to live a more quiet life. Unfortunately, it isn't happening because his dreams are haunted by a blood red tide that takes him to a small town on the coast of California. In this town, nothing is as it seems. From this town will come a shattering revelation.

Koontz has done a good job in drawing out the suspense of the story, which is also a mystery and one of hope for the town. Can Odd Thomas survive the blood red tide?

Cliffhanger Odd

I am a huge fan of the Odd series and this book is no exemption. I thought the book was a very fast read and kept me entertained and it was very suspensful. They was more than a few topics that were left in the dark. That is more than likely for the next book, but it was kind of disappointing. I read a few reviews before purchasing that totally trashed the book and I fully do not agree with those reviews. I will not ever trash a book in the Odd series and Dean Koontz is an excellent author. Go out and ready ODD HOURS. It will keep you interetained.Lire l'avis complet...

Odd Hours

Like the other Odd Thomas books, the story line in Odd Hours moves so quickly that it is difficult to put the book down- I read it in three days. Mr. Koontz does not use spirits who have yet to move on this time but instead Odd has to exclusively deal with the living this time out. Yet Mr. Koontz manages once again to weave as much mystery around the characters as ever. I enjoyed Odd Thomas and Brother Odd more because there was more humor and the author dwelt less on the villains than he does in Odd Hours. Nevertheless, it is a worthwhile read, even with the blatant ploy for a sequel.Lire l'avis complet...

Great Books...But not 1st Eds...Koontz still rules

Wonderful set of books but not 1st Eds...wanted these wonderful books and greater stories from an awesome writer to be in my personal library....but they are just books...not a collection of jewels as I believed...
the "Odd Thomas" series is a great plot that is continued through all of the books and has kept me wanting more of the story.,,...yes I would suggest anyone would love the typical Koontz style to keep one on the edge of their seat and read these books.....

Odd is still my hero, thank you Dean Koontz!

Dean says that Odd's story is a 'gift'...I am not sure that he entirely sees that it's not just a gift to HIM. For those of us out there in this world, trying to do the right thing, against overwhelming odds, (Hah!) carrying our own burdens of griefs, losses and betrayals...the Odd One's adventures are a breath of fresh air, and an infusion of strength and courage! This series is a triumph. I will grieve when it ends, as Koontz now assures us it will, but will hope that this author will be inspired in this way again, when he puts Odd away. I am a social worker, with 'spiritual gifts' and understand, to some extent, what this character struggles with, though not to his extreme. It never ceases to amaze me how Mr. Koontz 'gets it right' with characters like this. The motivations, the reactions, the myriad of tiny details that so many authors miss, or blow completely, he not only sees, but remains consistent with from start to finish. If someone allowed me lunch with one famous person in my lifetime, I would pick Mr. Koontz. His book, "The Face" to me was one of the most masterful books ever written....but Odd is as endearing to me as a brother. Thank you, Dean Koontz, for allowing this gift to flow through you to all of us that needed him...and thanks to your 'inspirer"!Lire l'avis complet...

not as good as the previous Odd Thomas books..

I had read the 3 Odd Thomas books that came before this one, so I was anxious to see how the story continued. I must say that I was just a bit disappointed in "Odd Hours." I did read it pretty quickly, but it was not as exciting as the first 3 books were. There really wasn't much written about Odd's "powers" and sometimes it did get a bit boring and made me wonder when the "excitement" was going to start. All in all, it was fairly good and if you have read the first 3, you obviously have to read this one. If another Odd Thomas book is written, I will buy it and I do want the story to continue.Lire l'avis complet...

We want more! We want more!

I started the Odd Thomas series when all but Odd Hours were on the shelves and quickly ready through them, so I couldn't wait to get my hands on Odd Hours. I love the development of the main character, particularly his perception of his circumstances and wit. I typically don't care to recommend reading, because everyone looks for different things from their reading. I find the entire series to be entertaining, well-written, and easy to read. Can't wait for the next Odd book!Lire l'avis complet...

Odd Hours by Dean Koontz

I bought this book for a very simple reason; after reading Brother Odd, which I found in a cabinet of our break room at work, I wanted more of the Odd Thomas story. What a wonderful character this young man is! I found the book Odd Thomas here, and of course had to get the rest of the series. I'll be getting In Odd We Trust next.

What I like about this book is the main character. An average guy, humble, self effacing, refusing to submit to bitterness despite having suffered terrible losses..and the fact that he "sees dead people, but then DOES something about it, by god"....and then does heroic things without ever thinking of himself as a hero.

I really can't think of anything I DIDN'T like about this book...except maybe wishing there were a LOT more to the Odd Thomas story than just 4 (5?) books!!
