great in early SATA laptops, delivers SSD-class performance for cheap.

I bought this thing to use with an old Thinkpad X60 Tablet, for fast booting and quick, responsive performance as well as reliability. In my case, this SSD delivered that 100%. It's only marginally more expensive than laptop Hard Drives of similar capacity or higher, and comparing the performance it delivers in comparison, buying this thing is almost a no-brainer.

Granted, I won't give this thing an A plus plus. It runs a bit hot for my taste, and it feels a bit cheap, made out of textured plastic rather than stainless steel or other steel casing, like a Samsung SSD I got for slightly more money, similar capacity.

It's also not the most top-notch compared to other SSDs in performance, but for what I'm using it for, I think it balances well with the limitations of the X60T's old hardware.

If you're buying for an old laptop, or rather... if you just want an SSD to have handy, this is a great first option. It's way better than spending $50 on a 120GB 5400RPM HD.Lire l'avis complet...

The best of both worlds

I have tested the OCZ Vertex 2 60GB SSD on windows 7 and Mac OS X Snow Leopard, it works great on both. Boot time is very fast and shut down time is extremely fast (fastest recorded is on Mac). Applications load at a speed never seen before. This is the fastest media till now for running an operating system. However I will recommend to always keep a backup your system and personal data on another drive. I use personally a external drive. One last thing for Windows users, SSDs use a new technology that demands some settings:
1. Disable indexing - Description: Indexing creates and maintains a database of file attributes. This can lead to multiple small writes when creating/deleting/modifying files. Searching for files will still work.
2. Disable defragmentation - Description: Defragmenting a hard disk's used space is only useful on mechanical disks with multi-millisecond latencies. Free-space defragmentation may be useful to SSDs, but this feature is not available in the default Windows Defragmenter.
3. Disable Write Caching - Description: There is no cache on SSDs, so there are no benefits to write caching. There are conflicting reports on whether this gains speed or not.

I basically use this drive to run My OS since this was the only bottleneck. SSD prices were also too high when released.
Had read enough review on the Extended Version SSD that this is.
Quite impressed with the performance.

I did not do any benchmarks since all that matters is how the drive perform to my expectations during normal usage.

Windows boots up less than 10 seconds (which everyone likes), Programs loads faster, closes faster.

I loved the sticker given by the OCZ fellas though. Anyone who see this on my CPU ask me about SSD which is kinda nice :-)

Friends have CORSAIR SSD's, but i chose OCZ since the price was less and also it too had the SANDFORCE controller that everyone is after :-)

If prices gets affordable, i'll certainly replace my mechanical data storage (For my Games), but for movies and music, i'm quite happy with a 7200 rpm drive, We have real quiet ones in the market now.Lire l'avis complet...

i bought it cause I wanted to try something new for a hd .
i like that it's quick and faster than my computer can handle but not so great in capacity- gb size, and I have to drop
downloads in an external hd or burn it on something.
