Almost perfect ...

I don't want to list all the features this phone has because there are plenty of them and you can look those up at Nokia's web site. I have done a lot of phone comparisons before deciding on this phone, and you get more features with this phone than most others. Although I'm one of those folks who mainly use it to make calls and hence can't comment much on many features, I can tell you that the camera works great, producing quite decent pictures for a phone; the synchronization with Outlook is a God-sent for me (software free from Nokia); and overall the phone is very easy to use. I particularly like that you can program certain buttons with "shortcuts" to whatever features you use most, and the radio comes in handy more often than I thought, as does the MP3 player. I also think the voice quality and volume of the phone are terrific, the best I've so far experienced in a cell phone, and the display is bright enough to be adequate in bright day light.

I would have given this phone 5 stars easily if it didn't have those two or three things that bug me about it, however minor they are: 1. The ring volume is not loud enough and I do miss calls every now and then. (Strangely, on my old Nokia 6610 the voice volume was annoyingly low, but the ringer volume was a heck of a lot louder.) 2. The keypad is not the most responsive, i.e., the buttons are sometimes hard to press, particularly the toggle button. (The Nokia 6610 was much better in that respect!) And 3., the design! Or actually, one might want to ask: what design? I mean, everyone has his/her own taste, but it's just bland. Just plain and square. That's it. But then that might be considered a plus by some folks.

I have noticed when I was travelling internationally and used this phone and my Nokia 6610 at the same time with two different #s that the 6610 sometimes still was able to pick up a signal in areas where the 6230 couldn't, although the service provider was the same for both phones. However, I have not had any problems with a signal here in the US so this may not be an issue unless you move around in areas with weak signals.

I hope this helps and that you will enjoy the phone if you decide to buy it.

Great little phone:don't judge a book by it's cover

This phone was compared to many others before I purchased, and happily I chose this one. I have had two other Nokia phones, love their user friendly menus, but this one takes the cake. When I bought the phone I had never used a phone with Bluetooth, MP3, or a radio, however, these features became a staple with my 6230. When you download the free Nokia software for your computer, and get a Bluetooth link (mine fit in the computers front USB) you can effortlessly transfer your music to the phone's memory card. I also liked how you could personalize the two selection buttons for your most frequent phone activities, mine was the music player for the right selection key, and the left selection key listed a "Go To" list which you picked the items, also each side of the directional button had it's own quick go to function (top:camera, right:calender, down:phone book, and left:text messages). I felt the phone was loud enough when ringing, listening to calls, especially with the speaker phone.
If I have to list some negatives I would say don't go too far without a charger of some kind, because I was charging the battery almost every other day. I

Nokia 6230

This phone has a compact style, very sturdy and basic for anyone that just wants a phone to talk. its working great in GSM network and has great reception. The price makes it very affordable for anyone that dont need all the features of a smart-phone or PDA. I travel a lot through US and im on the road most of the time so i get to experience how the phone acts while switching from tower to tower.
thank you and i hope this helps.

great phone! firmware upgrade recommended!

this phone is really great. i own two of them, nokia has a great user interface that anyone can understand. this phone can still outperform newer phones just released in the market. with its expandable memory and bluetooth capability, this phone, though old is a must-have! this phone still kicks butt. just make sure you have firmware versions v.5.24- v5.50 to get the most out of this thing. 5.50 is the latest firmware. to check the version just push *#0000# and youll see the firmware version and the year it was released. v 5.24 and on fix a great deal of problems seen in pre versions. now, the camera is clearer, bluetooth doesnt stall, higher mmc supports( by the way mmc's are soo cheap on ebay), the display is cleaner, and the mp3 player is better too. hope this helped.Lire l'avis complet...

STILL the best phone if you're looking for ....

* compact and light
* mp3 player
* radio
* VGA Camera
* speakerphone
* AWESOME reception (still the best out there!)
* Bluetooth
* EDGE (FAST GPRS)
* Java programs and games>* easy to navigate and FAST menu system

This phone does it all. The ONLY drawbacks to this phone are that it is a few years old. That said, it only has a VGA camera and screen resolution is only 128x128. This is not an issue, though, as the screen is compact, anyway. The letters and numbers still look crystal clear when reading them. If your faceplate gets scratched up, get a new one on eBay for $5-$9.

I've had mine for 2 years and love itLire l'avis complet...

A phone for the traveler

This is a phone that will take a while to be outdated. It has features that are unbeleivable. Easy to read and easy to use. I travel out of country and it serves me everywhere I go. This is an unlocked phone so I can use a sim card for where ever I am. Easy to navigate buttons and a great screen. Easy to add memory and fun to use.Lire l'avis complet...

great little phone

Its very small and light, good battery life, not to expensive and the display screen is very bright but not bright enough to hurt the eyes. It is just right and i personally feel it is a great buy.

Still Amazing

I owned this phone for quite a long time. I ended up "upgrading" to a razr v3xx and then upgrading to an iphone. A couple years later, and I am back to the 6230.

The phone is low key, works SPECTACULARLY at what it is designed to be: a phone. Has all the bells and whistles you might need. (bluetooth, mp3, mmc expandable, etc.) This phone is just perfect. I don't think I'll use anything else, ever again.Lire l'avis complet...

EXCELLENT PHONE

very good and tough
I got this phone on cingular and it was a GREAT phone. I loved all of the features. I even dropped it around a lot and it still worked as good as when I got it.

I even got it wet, I was washing my hands and the phone fell in. When I saw it and my shock of it falling in I still grabbed it fast, and it worked still afterwards. Get it if you canLire l'avis complet...
