Large fun in a small package!

Purchased this unit used for a little over half of what a new one would have cost. My 6 year old daughter had to have this because her friend had one, enough said about that. Received the unit to find it was in "like new" condition, it was very easy to get started, basic charge and go. I had not purchased any of the games at this point so it was limited as to what one could do other than simple writing and drawing practices. I was very impressed with the display quality and the many functions. A couple of days later I purchased a "Hello Kitty" game for this unit which my daughter just loves. She and her friend have hours of fun with these as one of it's features is a chat system where they can communicate with one another via wireless built into these units. If you have wifi internet nearby you can also download new games over the internet and communicate with others similar to a PC.

Pros: lite-weight and compact/nice display/ great features

Cons: games can get expensive if buying new

All-in-all was very pleased with this unit and my daughter is happy for now, until the next new gadget comes along.

Old system, still fun

When fully operational, the Nintendo DS is a very fun system to play DS or Gameboy Advance games on. These systems are notorious for their hinges breaking, however.
DS's that are in need of repair can be a good option if you're wanting to use its parts to fix another DS, or if you're wanting to just buy whatever part the for-repair system is in need of and making it a fully functional system. There are many tutorials online on how to fix the systems and are relatively simple devices.
Personally, I bought one of these for-repair systems so I could put it on display in a shadowbox. So I didn't even have to fix mine!

Nintendo DS

Both of my kids (ages 4 and 9) each have a DS. They love to do battles and write back and forth to each other, so the wireless feature is a huge plus - they can both easily play the games and I love the fact that it plays both DS games as well as Gameboy games - more options that way!
On to the negatives - I think that the hinge that holds the upper and lower portions together is cheap - though they have not personally broke theirs, you can really hear them when you open and shut them and they just feel like they are cheap - not very sturdy. Also, the stylus pen is great because you need it for some games, but it should have some sort of feature where you can attach it to the DS so it can't be lost (even though you can buy them separately and they are pretty cheap, it is still annoying!) Also, though we have not personally had any problems with them - the screens - a lot of people seem to break and or scratch them - I know you can purchase protectors separately but why not have them come with the DS if it is common enough of a problem that you have to make them to begin with!
Even with the little flaws - if my kids' stopped working, I probably would buy them another one - they really like them and I like all of the color options - they both have a different color and I just bought one for my mom for Christmas (so she will stop taking theirs) in a different color yet - so that way at a glance we know whos is whos and there is not fighting!

Great product for the money for DS games!

I was wanting a DS system that wasn't too expensive and this one fit the bill. There are a few games out there I wanted to play and they were for the DS so I found this. It was an excellent price and in great condition. Cheapest I have found. Others for the price were broken or in very very poor condition and should be classified as broken. This one is perfect except for one little dot where the stylus was pressed too hard. It works like its brand new, plays all the DS games I have bought so far, battery life is great, its just a wonderful system if you dont want all the fancy bells and whistles the newer DS systems have. Only thing I find annoying is you have to use WEP or unsecure networks for Wifi. No one uses WEP anymore. It's too easy to hack. WAY too easy. A lot of newer routers don't even support WEP anymore. If you want an easy way to do it and still have your secured network, there is a USB product you can buy that makes your computer or laptop a "Hotspot" so your DS can connect. But, its in the $30-$50 range. Overall I give this system 4.5 to 5 stars though. Great gameplay.Lire l'avis complet...

Nintendo DS Pearl

I like the idea of the system. However, it takes a little getting used to and can be somewhat difficult to use. You have both a touch screen and buttons, sometimes you have to use both at the same time. This is not an easy task, but there are games that do not require to use both. I am probably older than most users and am accustom to the classic Game Boy design of buttons only. I do like the technology of the new system but it is a little bit tedious and confusing at first. Overall the system is great!Lire l'avis complet...

Excellent Value

The Nintendo DS employs innovative dual-screen and microphone-enabled gameplay without load times on a higher-resolution display than Game Boy Advance SP while remaining backward compatible with older GBA games. The inclusion of Wi-Fi multiplayer capabilities and a touch screen allows for a growing list of original and fun games that you can't play on any other system.

While it lacks the multimedia and graphical finesse of the Sony PSP, the feature-packed Nintendo DS is a worthy successor to the Game Boy Advance--but the new and improved DS Lite is available for the same price.

DELICATE TOUCH SCREEN ALERT

I got the Nintendo DS Lite for my daughter's 8th birthday. It seems very sensitive and delicate. It has a lot of no no's thats hard for an 8 year old to understand. Such as don't touch the top screen at all and don't touch the bottom screen to hard. I am thinking this isn't going to last long and it is a very expensive item to me anyway. Some of the games don't run right. Certain parts of the games just freeze up. Maybe a defect in just our game or does it on all of them, I don't really know. The screen is easily scratched, so I would recommend the skins to cover. Not all of them work on this game even if they say they do. Make sure it is made by Nintendo before buying.
It is cute and pink and has lots of good games. But I wish I had looked at maybe some other game systems first. I don't know if there is anything more durable and last longer than 500 charges. I wish I had know it before buying.
Other than that, she loves playing it and the system is still working other than some of the games in parts don't work. So far so good!
If buying this product I would buy it for older kids or adults.
Hope this helps in deciding to buy the Nintendo DS Lite.

Reasons why I recommend this game system

I love that I can play the Game boy Advance games on this system along with the DS games. I bought it to keep myself busy while in waiting rooms, but I find myself playing it just for fun. The battery lasts a long time between recharges. I've had it off the charger for 5 days while turned off, and it was still full strength. Also I've played it for about 15 hours before needing to recharge it. The screen is a little small compared to the new model game systems, but you can see it clearly and the graphics are fine. Here are some reasons why I recommend this system: The DS Lite is lighter weight and thinner then the original DS. It is portable, and it fits into a large pocket or a purse. The buttons are easy to reach, even a child's hands should be able to reach the buttons. You can set the screen brightness to dim or bright with 4 different settings. And the older games are much less expensive to buy. I don't spend a lot of money on myself, but I am glad I bought this system. It was worth the money and I am very happy with it.Lire l'avis complet...

Great value

Was interested in buying an original ds for the purposes of sending it to loopy (a capture card installer.) All of the original models at the price range were titanium, which looked too boring in my opinion. This particular system was a good bit cheaper than the other models, so I decided to buy. It didn’t include a charger (which was stated in the listing), but I happened to have a GBA charger laying around, so that was fine. It ended up arriving four days early, which was a great bonus. The system is in great condition besides one black smudge on the outside casing. It kind of gets on my nerves, but I’m not complaining given the great deal I got on this. It definitely will take a bit of time to get used to the system since it’s a bit small, but the buttons and such work great.Lire l'avis complet...

Nintendo DS Lite

I bought the Nintendo DS Lite for my daughter. Christmas Morning she was playing with it in seconds, I was immediately impressed with the clearity of the screen and the ability of my daughter to write and send messages to my other daughter who had a Nintendo DS.
The New Nintendo DS Lite size is perfect for carrying in a pocket and the battery has a pretty good lifespan of roughly 4 hours.
Great Little present that will provide hours and hours of fun.
