Great value in a used lens

I've had this lens out a few times for some shooting and it's performed well. The VR is great which means I can feel comfortable shooting hand held down to 1/250th and even 1/160 in some cases. This isn't Nikon's top of the line so the f4.5-5.6 is as good as it gets but so far that hasn't stopped images from turning out good. The bokeh/background compression is great at 400mm and at the right angle you even get a nice tilt-shift effect. This lens is heavy so don't plan on shooting all day hand held. I've already ordered my monopod for shooting football/baseball games this season. The AF is a little noisy so probably not a great option for skittish wildlife and the VR clicking on and off is also a little noisy. Overall, for the price I paid, fantastic value!Lire l'avis complet...

Nikon Nikkor Great Lens for the Price

This lens is heavy and durable so it’s not easy to hand hold for long. A tripod or monopod is recommended. It is not a VR-s and needs to be used with a Nikon that has a motor for the autofocus to work. As an example, you would need to manually focus the lens if combined with a Nikon D3200. The Nikon Nikkor 80-400mm AF VR is an older model but works great for nature photography. The autofocus is a little slower than VR-s lenses but it doesn’t bother me. I’ve been satisfied with the photographs I’ve achieved while using the lens with my Nikon D7100.Lire l'avis complet...

Very good for the price

For $540.00 this is the best 80-400 AF/VR I could find. This model was marketed 10 years ago. The new model AF-S, selling for $2,000 has better features, focuses faster etc. The AF-D focusing is slower but fast enough for me. The VR feature works great and I'm not using a tripod ever after viewing results. I do not shoot sports. The hand held landscape shots at 300-400mm are all very sharp. Maybe not the sharpest lens at 400mm but noticeably better than the 100-300 MF Tokina lens I bought 35 years ago. I use the back button on D810 to focus and am very happy with that method. Nikor 80-400 zoom.

Excellent lens except it's on the heavy side. The tripod mount is excellent and easily balances the camera. Picture quality and focus speed are great. Great lens!

Hard to beat a quality lens for this price- A workhorse built to last

The lens was immaculate, I wouldn't have been able to tell it from new. I am using it on a Z9 I debated spending a lot more for the 100-400 z mount but being the stops were the same and it focuses quickly enough. I shoot outdoor sports and air shows and this range is perfect. The lens is a quality piece of glass. The images are sharp and contrasty.Lire l'avis complet...

Good quality zoom

If you're looking for a good zoom and don't have $2k. This is a good used option, but it is heavy and I don't recommend a lot of hand held shots. Make sure to get the tripod ring. On a 1-10 scale.. sharpness in good light or flash=9-10 low light sharpness 8-9.. af speed= 8-9 use of limiter cuts focus searching range so makes focusing faster in dof variance composition. Ease of handheld use= 5 (heavy) but the vr makes it useable and sharp. Just not a walk around lens. The zoom range makes it suitable for a wide range of uses. But it does have a minimal focus distance of about 7 feet. Your camera must have a focus motor to use the af. My overall rating is 9-10. I do not regret buying this lens for an older variable aperature lens it is an excellent value and asset.Lire l'avis complet...

Well built and works well on certain Nikon cameras.

This is descent lens if one knows how to use it, it works well on with the D90, D7000, D7100. D7200 and all the FX Cameras, all the 3100,3300,5000, 5200, 5300 and so on will have to manual focus because this lens does't have a built in focus motor .. Like its new counterpart the AF-S 80-400mm.Lire l'avis complet...

I love this lens the VR and AF work perfect.

This lens is awesome. A friend of mine is a professional photographer. He has a Nikon D700 and he has a Nikon 80-400mm VR that he uses doing "bird" pictures with. He checked this lens out stem to stern and he said other than having his name and address on his lens, there is absolutely no difference between the two lens and I won't tell how much he gave for it from Nikon. I did add a 77mm Vivitar UV filter to it for protection.Lire l'avis complet...

80-400d amazing lens

Never had a lens with 2 rings before, its design and function is amazing. Automatic focus is quick. If want to focus manually, use the front ring to focus lens. The rear ring controls the zoom. At 400mm, it brings things noticeably closer than a 300mm lens. I am very glad I bought the lens. This is not the newest G model and is very affordable. A lot of information about using this model is available on the web doing a simple search. Very happy.Lire l'avis complet...
