Not Fancy But A Nice Lens

You always expect a good product from Nikon/Nikkor and this AF lens holds up to the reputation of its manufacturer. Obviously, the lens is not that fast, but it does everything that it is designed to do very well (great example of functionality following form). The fit-and-finish characteristics meet Nikkor standards, and the overall operation of the lens is smooth in both automatic and manual focus modes. The "D" (distance) measuring capability integrated into the CPU makes this lens a great companion for cameras that have this function, and the lens optics help to produce excellent photographs. The focal length range from wide angle (28 mm) to medium zoom (105 mm) is convenient when you only want to haul around one piece of glass, and its weight is acceptable. Furthermore, the lens ergonomics are comfortable for average-size or large hands. Summarily, if you're looking for a good utility AF zoom lens, this one is worth considering.Lire l'avis complet...

Excellent carry-around lens on a budget

This is a very useful all-purpose lens and a good bargain at under $200. It is an older design AF lens, not using the exotic glasses available today, but a perfectly serviceable addition to your kit. It will focus down to one-half lifesize, although a bit of fiddling with the zoom and focus settings is a prerequisite. It works well with film and FX Digital format cameras and, of course, with DX format cameras with their 1.5x crop factor. Just be sure yours will take screw-drive AF.Good bokeh in out-of-focus areas at all focus distances makes it a winner, as well as its minimum distortion levels. Color rendition is very acceptable, as is its anti-flare properties.Lire l'avis complet...

Bridge Lens

Love this focal range. A good copy will make sharp images. I labeled it a bridge lens, because I can use it on my auto focus bodies (D750, N75, N80, D7100) as well as my old manual focus body (FM). The lack of the fifth star is because it has no Vibration Reduction. Lire l'avis complet...

An excellent general purpose and macro lens

Typical of the AF-D lenses in construction, mostly high grade plastic, but is surprisingly sharp wide open. Short throw of the focusing ring makes manual focus somewhat more difficult but the AF works very well. Would give it five stars if it had more metal in the lens body and the focusing ring had more throw but these are minor issues. I am very happy with my copy.Lire l'avis complet...

Great single lens trip solution

I've had this lens for a couple years at least and used it for my first "all digital" trip recently to Italy where - although I had a 70-300 and a wide angle in my kit with me, this lens pretty much rode my D200 the whole time and I got some great "general" shots and some perfect "pro" shots.

focus nit: It focuses "ok" - there are times I wished it focused faster, especially in low light where you may find more AF hunting going on (but maybe not more-so than other AF lenses (not counting the newer AF-S verions)). Usually once locked in, I can take several shots without it re-focusing. Some changes in focus groups or focus points usually fix AF-hunting aberrations for me, however.

aperature nit: Yes, it only opens to 3.5 and in a perfect world, this focal range with a 2.8 would be ideal, but I'm sure the cost would far outweigh the benefit. Throw on a flash or use your speedlight for anything inside 12 feet in a dark area and this lens rocks.

I bought this full price and think it was well worth it and when I'm travelling now and don't know what I'll find on the way, this is the lens I leave on my camera to grab for a fast shot when needed.

Awesome Lens

This is a great all purpose lens that will operate on virtually any full-frame 35 mm camera Nikon made (FX digital & 35 mm film) & will also work on the high-end APS-C Nikon digital cameras (DX D7000 series). It is tack sharp. The macro range of the 28-105 almost eliminates the need for a separate, dedicated micro lens. The lens I received is virtually mint - super clean & works like new. I bought it for my Nikon N90S (film) camera. The lens' autofocus speed & accuracy are excellent considering that it was designed & produced ~15 years agoLire l'avis complet...

Nikkor AF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 D

I am mainly using very expenssive prime lenses on several full frame bodies for various kind of photography.
From time to time I needed a compact wide angle to standard+ lense to fill up tinuy gaps when needed, also was intending to use this lens for shirt trips and convension in Aurope.
I got it from ebay for aroung a 100$ or less. this little zoom is built nicely, the rubber rings are wuite dumped and lerge make it very handy. the zoom ring is a bit on the stiff side though.
Macro switch is a but of a bugger t turn of b/c you need some sort of manipulation to turn it back to non macro for the lens t be able to zoom out to 28mm. NevertheLess this less is super usefull, llight transmmision is quite acceptable. sharpness is quite good especiallly when compared to newer g nikkor lenses this one has less distortion and is quite shrp in corners at all lengths esp around 50mm but also on 28mm.
compactness is the case here- it is super compact and solid piece of kit. Macro goes very very close just lie the old 55mm 1:2 manual macro lenses. autofocus is dead on, but will only work on a motorized camera (D8000-500, D7K series etc)
this is a very usefull and very good value lens for a hair of the price of newer semipro-pro small zoom newer lenses.

Nice walk around lens.

Real nice focal length for walking around. I was surprised how little, if any distortion is captured. Lines are straight. Macro end is useful, which is not usually the case with a non macro type lens. Good contrast and color render. It's very light. Easy to manual focus.Lire l'avis complet...

Nikkor 28-105 mm 1: 3.5-4.5D excellent all-purpose zoom

Nikon AF Nikkor 28-105mm 1: 3.5-4.5D - only autofocus lens with a focal range of 28-105mm by Nikon.

The lens was released in 1998. Nikon AF NIKKOR 28-105mm 1: 3.5-4.5D has a metal mount and very well assembled, no backlash. Lens in hand feels like a very high quality item, the more Nikon AF NIKKOR 28-105mm 1: 3.5-4.5D Made in Japan.
Nikon AF NIKKOR 28-105mm 1: 3.5-4.5D has a very fast focusing in normal mode Normal. In the Macro Auto Focus speed is average. Limiter Normal \ Macro allows you to work in Normal mode from infinity to 50cm, and in Macro mode from 22cm to infinity. The lens has an internal focus, but when zooming front lens rotates. Unlike many other specialized macro lenses, speed focus in macro mode is sufficient for convenient operation.

Auto focus lens Nikon AF Nikkor 28-105mm 1: 3.5-4.5D available only when using it on a camera with a built-in motor focus.
Switch lens in Macro mode is possible only when the focal length is set to a value from 50 to 105mm. If the zoom lens is from 28 to 50 mm focal length, then switch the lens Macro mode will be impossible. Also, to switch the lens mode Macro mode Normal, it is necessary that the lens was focused from infinity to 50cm, or switch the mode fail. But the automatic focusing is available in any mode.

The lens aperture is unusual maximum parameters from F / 3.5 to F / 4.5. The aperture F / 5.6 to 1.55 times 'darker' than the F / 4.5. The lens has a good 9-blade diaphragm that allows you to generate a sufficiently smooth wheels in the area of confusion.

On a full frame camera lens is sharp with F / 3.5-F / 4.5 at the center of the frame. In the corners of the sharpness falls, and, if the macro mode can see a strong vignette. The lens is very well conveys contrast, has excellent color, is not afraid of the side and back light, especially when using a lens hood that comes in the kit. 28mm lens on a distortion, but the level of distortion is surprisingly very little. Lens can still not boast the worst bokeh.

I've been looking for a versatile lens for full frame cameras. It took me quite a long time. Nikon 24-70mm f / 2.8G ED AF-S N Nikkor was very expensive, and the Tamron AF 28-75mm f / 2.8 SP XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) for Nikon did not suit me flimsy housing. It was decided to take only 'native' Nikkor's. This AF NIKKOR 28-105mm 1: 3.5-4.5D drew its aperture and aperture F / 4.5 at 105mm focal length. Opportunities for 105mm F / 4.5 very well shown in portraits and wide angle to full frame sufficiently sharp already on F / 3.5.

Nikon AF NIKKOR 28-105mm 1: 3.5-4.5D (IF MACRO) - an excellent all-purpose zoom for full frame cameras. Lens light gives a sharp image and rapid autofocusing macro has the ability to increase 1:2, but requires the presence of the focus motor in the chamber.

AF Nikkor 18-105/3.5-4.5 D

Awesome lens from the film era, perfectly sharp at all focal lenghts even wide open, perfect in direct sunlight. Macro capabilities, suitable focal range, admitable weight, small distorsion at 28 mm and almost no distorsion at longer focal lenghts. Metal mount, plastic body, rubberised range and focus rings. Hardly any cons for this superb lens made in Japan.Lire l'avis complet...
