Fantastic blending of old & new creates instant classic

Super Mario Bros. Wii successfully blends the old NES and Super Nintendo Mario games (Mario Bros. 1 & 3, Super Mario World 1 & 2) with the graphics and gameplay of the Wii and newer Mario games (Super Mario Galaxy) to make yet another instant Mario classic. Up to four players can play simultaneously to create chaotic fun like only Nintendo can do. The style of each level is taken from Super Mario Bros. 3 (as is the world map) and also plays very similarly. The addition of Yoshi - you ride him just like in Super Mario World - only cements this game's addictiveness.

Some complain that SMBW is a cheap port or knockoff. Even if that is true, a knockoff of some of the greatest games ever made can't be horrible, right? Far from horrible, indeed, the game has received very high ratings from nearly all major video game critics.

Super Mario Bros. Wii has a wonderful nostalgic feel to it, and is likely to bring back many fond memories. Simple controls & gameplay, over 100 levels, and a seemingly unlimited amount of secrets makes this game a MUST for any Wii owner.Lire l'avis complet...

Great game my son loves it!!!

This is a great game for kids. A new take on a classic Mario game format.
I highly recommend this game for kids and adults.

Great Game.. brings back memories

Love this game.. I bought it for my kids for the Wii, but realized that it is reminisant of the Mario Bros that I played on the Original Nintendo(many yrs ago).., it's really lots of fun. Now the whole family can play, and it's great because we can all play together, you can play up to 4 people at a time. Would highly recommend!

The only negative I would say is that it only has 3 available slots to save games, it is not kept track of via your WII person It's hard to keep track of your individual progress the way it is. On a +, at least you can save your progress, unlike the original nintendo.Lire l'avis complet...

Great old fashion video game fun.

If you played the old mario games on the older systems then you'll like this one. Mario has a lot of the same abilities and similar worlds as the older games and with new worlds.

Fun Game

Very much like the old Mario games running and avoiding obstacles but with many more levels. The only complain I would have is that the character keeps moving a couple steps after releasing the control which can cause you to lose a guy, once you know this though it's okay.Lire l'avis complet...

I really, really like New Super Mario Bros. Wii!

I really, really like New Super Mario Bros. Wii. I have no qualms with saying this is a far better game than the Nintendo DS version, and it could easily be the finest Super Mario Bros. 2D platformer Nintendo's ever created. You should absolutely get a copy, no question.

But, and it's a big "but," Nintendo did not use this opportunity wisely. For as big a project as this could have been, this game's impact is weakened by many factors. It plays it safe with established gameplay with very little in the way of new innovation. It also lacks online multiplayer in a generation where such a feature is expected.

I had a great time plowing through all eight worlds (and then some), but the nagging feeling of it seeming like a step backwards kept creeping in. As a gamer I love New Super Mario Bros. Wii, but as a critic I just couldn't let the issues slide.

7.5 Presentation
Nintendo gives us the status quo here, not going above and beyond in features.
7.5 Graphics
Very modest visuals: 3D characters, 2D backgrounds, with the occasional lighting effect.
8.0 Sound
The Mario soundtrack has some great old favorites and some fun new ditties.
9.5 Gameplay
Brilliant 2D platforming and challenges makes this the best of the 2D Mario best.
9.0 Lasting Appeal
The multiplayer aspect makes this a game you'll come back to again and again.
