Router works

Router works as it should, wifi signal fluctuations are bit more than normal but exceptable. Working for about a week now and no drops, or reboots needed that in itself is a win, so far anyway. Using it in Ap mode as an extention for my ring wifi video equipment. Running it hardwired to another wndr4500 also in A P mode then hardwired to my action tec 1000 Qwest dsl modem/wifi router. All playing nice together.Lire l'avis complet...

Great router...just wish the Genie had "REAL" options...

Good device. This router offers a wide cover range and great wireless capability. Between my kids and I, we have 5 computers on, 2 smart phones, 3 tablets, 1 xbox 360 and 3 ps3's online at the same time 80% of the time at my house and this device covers all of them.
This router is extremely easy to setup and install for home use/security use too. It has an app called NetGear Genie which allows you to change your router settings and severity of what is allowed/blocked by the router.
The only complaint I have about this router, is the lack of parental control from the Genie app. For example, when I read about all of these features I assumed I had more control when my kids are online. When my kids are gaming and it is time for bed I can log into the Genie and see what machines are on the internet (PS3, PC's, iPhones, etc). When it's time to turn it off I can not controll any of the lines connecting to the router from the Genie. Since it shows the devices using the router in a spider image (w/ the router in the middle and every device using the internet attached to the router w/ a --)))-- line to show online), you would think you could click on the line and choose to disconnect the device from the Genie, but you can NOT do this. This was the biggest downer of the device. Basically the Genie is a flashy way to see what you already know, who's online in your house. You can't change people's access, you can't boot people off or block them, you can't even reboot the router with out physically going to the router and shutting it off w/ the power button.
Too bad, maybe some day they'll update the software to allow manual shut offs from the smart phone, or reboots and blocking lines/devices...that would be the security feature I would like to have on this router.
Otherwise, the router works extremely well. It transfers all date VIA wireless and wired just fine and it gives great strength far distance w/ all of my devices.

A great feature rich product. Gives you your money's worth.

I bought this router because of its remote cloud sharing capability. All the other standard wireless router functions work well. I am very satisfied with it.

One simple but elegant feature that is unique to NetGear's router is that they stand up vertically. This creates a smaller footprint than the usual brood of router's out there. This is one compelling reason why I pick NetGear over Linksys. A great idea which saves space on an already crowded table top.

The focus of my review will be on the cloud sharing capability.

This router permits a USB flash drive to be shared on a local network or through the cloud. Cloud sharing can be done through through anonymous ftp or through an install software on the remote PC.

The software approach is actually pretty nifty. The remote drive shows up as a shared drive and you can access the files like you would on a local drive. However this ReadyShare Cloud software conflicted with a CAD software I am running. The CAD software require constant connection to a remote license server. However connection to this license server gets broken repeatedly causing the CAD software to hang.

The anonymous FTP method is the worse method of remote file access because it has absolutely no security. You gain access to the USB driver without a password. As long as you know the IP address to the remote drive, access is available to anyone. I like this method of file access because it does not require any installed software beside an FTP client software. However this absolute lack of security forces me to turned this feature off. If not for this limitation, this router deserves a 5 star but I can only give it a 4 star.

Great Wireless N router..... Better with DD-WRT

I have three of these routers in my home network. Personally I prefer the version 1 & 2 models over the newest (version #3). With factory firmware they work well, have a very straight forward and simple setup/interface, and are easy to maintain via the web interface. Where they really shine is when the firmware is upgraded to DD-WRT (only available for versions 1 &2).

The down side to these, as well as almost any Netgear product is the awful customer support. Netgear seems to be intent on making money from their customer support..... the warranty on their products is short, and if you happen to need customer support, they will try to "up sell" you a $150 to $179 service plan...which is really only paying money to talk to a customer service rep. In my experience, their customer support reps lack knowledge, are somewhat rude. If you are competent with wireless products and networks, netgear products are excellent. If you are a novice, go with another brand that offers better warranties and customer support.

Interference

Router works just fine but... When I have the wireless enabled it causes interference with the GPS on my Samsung S5 (wireless enabled on the router, the phone does not have to be connected to the WNDR4500). The GPS consistently shows me 1000 miles from my current position. It does not happen to all phones but it does cause interference to more than just the S5 (I have tried 5, 2 failed). Since there is no way to disable 2.5GHz and 5GHZ individually I can't determine which may be causing the issue. Since it is gigabit Ethernet I use it for my main router and my old router as an AP for wireless, kind of takes away one of the features of the WNDR4500 though. Netgear will not support this so there is no way to address this problem through them. I understand this might have been an unforeseen problem but there are other dual band routers that I don't have the same problem.Lire l'avis complet...

WNDR4500 V2 With TiVo USB Media Support--A Real 5★ Deal

I previously used a WNDR4500 V1 for 2 years and it was a real 5★ deal. I bought this WNDR4500 V2 because it has the TiVo Media Support for USB media storage and I have 2 TiVos. The media option allows either TiVo to access media from a USB drive connected to the WNDR4500 V2 server. The router is fast and reliable with an easy interface to configure settings. It is powerful with a large signal range and stands upright saving space. What I don't like about the product is that if you don't log off the user interface, it will get buggy with WiFi connections. I am a Netgear fan and prefer it to other brands I have used.Lire l'avis complet...

Awesome product, Horrendous support!

I purchased the Netgear N900 900 Mbps 4-Port Gigabit Wireless N Router (WNDR4500) to replace my old LinkSys WRT54GS and I must say, it is an amazing, feature rich and FAST router.

Configuration is a Breze, but unfortunately I had to call their technical support for ONE simple setting which they work differently from Linksys. That's where it all went downhill.

It took 45 minutes and 3 transfers to get to someone overseas with a thick, hard to understand accent just to tell me that to answer my question I had to pay for a Support agreement. He then went on to tell me, even after I asked if there was a per call fee or shorter period, he said that the minimum was a one year service plan costing a whopping $129.99. Another 20 minutes later and still unable to resolve the issue, he said he would have a supervisor call me back. Eleven hours later, no callback. During the waiting period, I researched on their site and found that they do in fact have a per incided fee and 6 month and shorter support/service plans. I called back, only to hold another 35 minutes and get transferred twice. In the end, the question was never answered, figured it out myself and ended up escalating to a manager to have the charge to my credit card refunded.

In all, an entire weekend wasted (3 days). Some support!! If it wasn't for the wonderful hardware, utility/interface and features, my overall rating would be a 1!

A powerhouse!

I bought this after reading the specs and reviews. I'm very pleased with Netgear's home and business products. The Genie app makes it easy for me to review network settings, devices and control all traffic. This replaced another brand and it does it very well!!!Lire l'avis complet...

One of the best brands on the market

Netgear N900 gives you the best experience in WiFi networks, easy to set up, good interface and support. Recommended for medium to large homes, signal is always good quality. Another thing I do like is the candy eye design, looks nice but only can be use at vertical position, I love the guest mode because allows you to share your WiFi with your guest without compromise your password or the integrity of the network.Lire l'avis complet...
