Underwhelming beyond words.

Graphics-87/Sound-92/Controls-80/Blast Force-71/Overall=82

It's painfully apparent that while fighting games will be the first to go, racing games will follow swiftly now finding themselves on the endangered species list. The legendary Need For Speed series has seen better days. The last good one was Most Wanted, and since then...blah, just a bunch of blah. Shift was so bad I was shocked to see they're making a sequel! Overall, the graphics here aren't bad. There's lots of photo-realism in day environments, but unfortunately, the night tracks are kind of bland. Custom soundtracks are always welcome in any racing game, and it's nice to see that Sony is finally "getting it" when it comes to the marriage between video games and music. Hopefully we see this feature run rampant in 2011, assuming the PS3 is around then. The controls, challenge, and physics are pretty solid with only minor flaws here and there. The big problem is the structure of the game. The gimmick that is Autolog is not revolutionary nor is it particularly useful most of the time. I haven't played the cops or online, but I'll tell you that Hot Pursuit events don't disappoint. I get the same literal rush of adrenaline as I did years ago on the PS2, but it's just too darn hard to come by. Events are scattered about with a paltry list of cars allowed in each event. There's no structure, tree, league, car classes, or any classification of any type which results in you not caring about the super car you just unlocked because you don't know where it qualifies or when you can actually drive it! None of the cars actually become your own and taking photos doesn't help, either. This game is not an epic fail, but it doesn't add enough new content to not make it feel eight years old with a plethora of downgrades. It is in no way worth $60, so if you got it Black Friday weekend, hooray for you, otherwise, I feel your pain. Verily, verily, this is NOT the true successor to Hot Pursuit 2 but a farce and slap in the face for NFS:HP fans!Lire l'avis complet...

One of my favorite Need For Speed games.

I first had this game on my Computer, but the game stopped working. So I bought it for my ps3 and it worked pretty fine. Career Mode (Offline Mode) is cool. I chose as being cop and racer. Made it to level 20 on both cop and racer. The police cars and racer cars are awesome. Hot Pursuit races, Interceptors, Rapid Responses, Races, Time Trails and Gauntlet missions were pretty fun. Some of them were hard and annoying, but I completed them. The free roam mode is extremely peaceful. No cop chases, no worrying about car health and no challenges. You drive across Secrest County with your cars. You'll still crash on the free roam mode, but when you spawn back on the road, the car get repaired. The online multiplayer is not my favorite because it's a whole lot more challenging with other players online. But to be honest, this game is super duper. Highly recommended.Lire l'avis complet...

Hot Pursuit gets a 'good' rating from an accomplished gamer (and his sons)

My sons love this game. They are a bit too young to drive at the level necessary so I am the 'adult gamer'. I actually purchased 'The Run' prior to buying Hot Pursuit and they are similar as far as the driving goes. Watch out for spike strips from the back of competing cars as well as EMP. You won't get this from 'The Run' - Help slow down the super fast 'racers' by calling for road block or heli (not on all races) - sometimes you just have to use raw ramming power.
If you like running from the cops or trying to take down racers while being a cop this game gives you that feeling.

NFS NO A Burnout Game With NFS Name and Cars Yes

This is not a need for speed game that fans are used to, but if your a fan of Burnout then it's alot like those games, The cars are Need for Speed and the tracks but not the controls nor the gameplay are NFS they are totally burnout, but if you like the burnout games and you want some cars and police that's typically what you would find in a Need for Speed game then you'll like this game, but if your a NFS Underground, NFS Most Wanted, NFS Shift, type of person then you will be big time disappointed. But overall I would give the game 3 1/2 stars since I'm a fan of the Burnout series and NFS series, but the game could have been way better there's no two player except online that and that sucks big time I miss the Most Wanted type of game play and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit gameplay from the PS2 they were in my opinion the best NFS games but this game is the best NFS on the PS3 so far in my opinion, maybe the NFS Shift 2 will be much improved from the old one.Lire l'avis complet...

Need For Speed Hot Pursuit As Good As Underground ! 9.5

EA's Need for Speed franchise has had its up and downs. Unfortunately, the past few years has been one of those "down" bits, with the last couple games doing nothing to advance the series in any way that you would call good. So, something had to be done, and EA decided to hand off the reins to Slightly Mad Studios, the folks behind the PC racing series GTR, to create Need for Speed Shift. So did the changing of the guard pay off?

Oh, yes it did, and in a huge way.

There are so many things done right in terms of design that this feels like the freshest take on the "simulation" racing genre in many, many years. I put the word "simulation" in quotes because while Need for Speed Shift is undoubtedly closer to that end of the racing spectrum than, say, Burnout, Slightly Mad made some very smart choices in deciding what would be realistic and what wouldn't. The result is that the team is essentially giving you a racing experience that is extremely close to the real thing in terms of presentation, while keeping the controls just arcadey enough to allow relative newcomers a much easier entryway into the game than the likes of Gran Turismo.
Let me step back a little bit before delving into the racing experience. NFS Shift returns to the track-based racing of old (and ProStreet) rather than the open-world stuff seen in most of the modern titles. You'll find mainstays like Laguna Seca, Willow Springs and Nurbergring as the backdrops to your tire burning, and each of these are brought to life excellently. They're not 100% accurate compared to their real-world counterparts however as Slightly Mad has tweaked the scenery to provide more compelling views in spots that were a little drab, but the course layouts are indeed intact, which is what's important. Given the course selection in the game (totalling somewhere around the 20 track mark), it's of little surprise that practically every meter of road in the game is fun to drive.

Unlike pretty much every modern day Need for Speed title, there's zero story involved, and I'm very happy about that. The closest thing you're going to get to some sort of tale is the voiceover that you'll hear at the start of the game, telling you that you've been given a chance to prove yourself in a BMW M3 around Brands Hatch before winning some cash and choosing your own ride. After that, the voice only returns to explain new events and the like, but never to tell you that the cops are on your tail or that your love interest can introduce you to some jackass in a garage. Nope, this pretty much as pure of a racing game as you can find, and I for one am very thankful for that.

That's not to say that the experience is drab. On the contrary, there's fantastic and somewhat atmospheric music in the menus, a generally slick interface all around and some stylistically edited videos to introduce new events. It's the sort of stuff that will keep your blood pumping between events without getting in the way.
All of that is great, but pales in comparison to what happens when you get behind the wheel of a car. And let me just say that you should get behind the wheel and not race from a third-person camera because the cockpit view is what makes NFS Shift stand out from the extremely competitive racing genre and come into its own. Slightly Mad has created an extraordinarily good cockpit view for the game, one that makes you feel like you're actually in the seat of a horsepower-bleeding supercar.

The Best Open World Racing Game Ever

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit is the best open-world racing game I have ever played. It has the perfect combination of exotic and beautiful scenery, breathtaking chases and crashes, troublesome traffic, incredible cops versus racers chases, and insanely fast and gorgeous cars.
The game’s storyline is very short and very simple; the world in which the game takes place, Secreast County, is notorious for hot-shot racers driving insanely fast in exotic cars. To counter this, the Secreast County Police Department (SCPD) has increased its budget enormously, so that the police can keep up. As a result, the average police officer does not drive a one-hundred year-old Ford Crown Victoria, but the same exotic cars as the racers do. This is about all the storyline Hot Pursuit offers; and it’s pretty much all it needs.
As for the gameplay, the actual racing is good, but that is expected from a Need for Speed game; which is also increased by the fact Criterion games (Burnout series) developed it. The thing that really impresses is the graphics and the overall effort put into the game. To start, Criterion could have just made the cops and racers have the exact same headquarters, voices, and pretty much everything, minus the paint jobs and sirens. However, Criterion went over-and-out, making significant differences between the cop and racer hubs, HUD (heads up display), and overall presentation. This really brings the game to another level. As for the graphics, Hot Pursuit is gorgeous. Yes, the cars are beautiful as expected, but the environments are some of the best ever in a video game, particularly a racing game. The game also has a great variety of cars, with around 70 cars (three of which are available via online update on PlayStation Network or Xbox Live).
The racing stands out from other open-world racing games. The cars handle differently, not on a level like Gran Turismo, but you can tell the difference between a light car such as the Pagini Zonda Clique and a heavier muscle car, such as a Shelby GT500 Super Snake. The crashes are amazing. The cars, especially the Hyper Series cars, are extremely fast. For example, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 has a top speed of 253 MPH, which is actually achievable during real gameplay. The damage is very realistic, though a bit too dramatized in computerized traffic cars.
The online is incredible, with an in-game social network called Autolog. Autolog really takes Hot Pursuit to a new level, which is sure to be replicated in games coming out in the future. It lets you interact with your friends, compare times, post photos taken in-game, and even trash-talk.
All-in-all Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit is a great game, giving the NFS series a much-needed change. This is a must-have for any racing game fan, especially open-world ones. Even for the full asking price, $59.99, this game is a good buy. This game is a great addition to any collection.

Tons O' Fun

Love this game...a lot of fun. Great graphics and sound. Lots of great cars. Game play is intense. The only thing I would change is that I wished there were many more miles of highway to drive!

Need for speed aka Burnout: Hot Pursuit

Though I enjoy the game overall, I was a little disappointed at how much it resembles the Burnout games. I was more looking forward to it being a continuation of the older versions of the NFS franchise. I guess I'll have to do what I've done with Madden and only play the older version that I liked best and boycott the newer ones. I loved the graphics and the game play, as well as the cars. NO CHEATS! I absolutly despise any video game where the only cheats require you to play the game as you normally would. That's not a cheat, thats an overstatement of the obvious. I haven't checked out any downloadable content yet but I hope that there is DLC and I hope that its worth the cost (and that the cost is free or as close to free as possible). All in all its a great game, but as I've always said about improvements and/or updates to games. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.Lire l'avis complet...
