The best traveling companion you (or a loved one) can have!

I bought this because a friend of mine has one and I was really totally thoroughly impressed with it. Before that I had never even considered buying a GPS but after taking a couple of trips with my friend using the Navigon, I was sold. I particularly like the way it highlights which lanes you can use (helpful with some of those tricky multi-lane 'where do I need to be for this exit' places) and you can hop off the Interstate to find a gas station or restaurant (which it will also help you find) then it will direct you back on your way. Also helpful if you do encounter a detour, a closed ramp, etc. You don't have to wander around the countryside, wondering if you're still on the right path or if a detour has just gotten you lost. You can compare routes to see how many miles and how long each would be. It's just a great product. I studied the ratings and Navigon was consistently highly rated. Of course there are newer models available and I'm sure they do even more great things but I was able to pick this model up at a BARGAIN price and it does everything I need it to. I'm still quite adventurous but a little older now and I just feel more secure on the road with my little 'traveling companion.'Lire l'avis complet...

Trip from NC to MI - Very good Route planning

I bought the Navigon 5100 for a trip to Michigan. Living in North Carolina and making the trip to MI many times, I was very pleased to see that this GPS was very accurate in route planning. Even when my wife was playing with it and we missed a turn, it recalulated our route and got us back on track without losing any time. The only thing I fnd a little lacking is the POI, but taking major highways they are marked at each exit anyway. It seems a little hard to pull up the POI without getting out of the route poration. That might be our inexperience with the unit though. Overall this unit does very good in calculaing routes.Lire l'avis complet...

Navaigon Gps

I really love this gps, I had a Magellan 1200 and this gps is light years ahead, it has live traffic report features that are totally accurate. I love all the settings, you can set it to let you know the speed limite per area, and if you go over it will inform you. The touch screen is very fast the only down side is it takes forever to turn on device. I would highly recommend this as an excellent gps with many great features. One other thing this can be updated online, no need for buying a new data card.Lire l'avis complet...

Navigon GPS

Bought it for my brother for a christmas present, but I used it most of the time while I was at home, and let me tell ya, this thing is awesome.
It quickly (in a matter of seconds) re-routes you if you miss a turn, Has 4 different routing profiles (fast, scenic, shortest and something else). It got me to where I needed to go and showed me some quicker routes to places I usually go. Lifetime traffic looked awesome, and it's FREE. If only we could get free lifetime map updates :D

For the bad. I personally don't like the design of the mount. My spedometer is in the center of the dash, and it was hard finding a place to mount it on the windshield. But a cheap $10 mount could definitely fix that.
It'd be nice if it came with a place for a stylus for the touchscreen. I have fat fingers, and touchscreens don't play nice with fat fingers.

Overall this is a great GPS, specially for the price. Live.com gave me $35 back, making this purchase only $75.

Great GPS for a lot less than you'd expect!

After a client informed me that there is no "subscription" fee or any other monthly bill associated with using a GPS (yes, laugh away, that is what I thought!), I bought the Navigon 2100 for my husband last fathers' day. He'd had nothing but terrible luck with GPS's in the past (when they first came out), and for years had been mapping directions online or using a mapbook. He wasn't overly thrilled when he opened his fathers' day present, but I told him to give it a chance. Well, within a week, he couldn't live without it! It's VERY simple to use, and the Navigons' display is clear and easy to read/understand...so easy, in fact, that I then bought my Mom a Navigon 5100 for Christmas that same year, and she also loves it. Mom and Husband are BOTH somewhat technology challenged, and this couldn't be any simpler for both of them to use! I've used TomTom and Garmin, and even though they are more expensive, I don't find them as user friendly as the Navigon, and I like the realistic looking road it displays too! My husband recently lost his 2100, so...Merry Ho Ho...I got him this 5100 and is he going to love it!!! Long and short of it, if you're scared of trying a GPS, or think they'll be hard to figure out, DON'T BE, and buy this one! You won't even realize just how handy it is until you start using it.

p.s. - when travelling, you can search for a location (ie, gas station, bank, restaurant, amusement park, etc.), and it will provide you a list of what is near you, then guide you to your choice! This has been a lifesaver more than once!!

Navigon 5100 Alright!!!

I think the Navigon 5100 is an alright product. I wish the sound could go louder espically with the window cracked. one negitive I noticed is that it doesn't always give you the quickest routes to your destinations, but it is fairley accurate. I think the screen display is good quality and pretty easy to navigate the system. Great that it is touchscreen. I haven't had a chance to see the reality view yet, but overall I would recommend this GPS to others.Lire l'avis complet...

Navigon 5100 GPS

Works fine. I like the traffic alerts and rerouting around problems. I Don't like having to increase volume up to max everytime you start out so you can hear the directions. It doesn't hold the volume setting from last time. Zagat listings meager, i.e. 4 Hotels rated out of hundreds available in very large metro area, nothing shown for restaurants in an area of thousands. My previous model, a 2000S didn't have the traffic or ZAGAT features,so I got the 5100.Lire l'avis complet...

Almost a great GPS

2 things keep this from being a great buy and great GPS: 1 is the lack of enough sound volume. At anything more than idling at a stop there will be too much road noise to hear this unit when mounted on the windshield. 2 is the long time to cycle up if the unit has been unplugged for more than a few minutes. Besides these items the graphics are first rate among current units. The features like text-to-speech, lane assistance, and traffic advisory all work. The price is also way less than Garmin and Tom-Tom.Lire l'avis complet...

Great GPS, Small Price

it is a great value for $65. the screen is a little small (which is good and bad. good: doesn't block too much of the windshield; bad: not always easy to see). great features, but not exactly user friendly (make sure you have all destination set before you start driving). it's perfect... if you have a co-pilot.Lire l'avis complet...

Great for trips, both short and long

I purchased this as a "Family Christmas Gift" but used it within a week of receiving it. The free traffic updates are fantastic! I live just 40 miles outside of Washington, DC, so when traveling in and around the metro area these traffic "checks" are better than listening to the radio for traffic updates. The alternate routes offered are fantastic! You can chose to avoid highways, or traffic (yeah!) and so much more. It's easy to program addresses in once you figure out the menu choices. I would recommend this to anyone who does any traveling in and around highly congested urban areas, and it's a must for long trips! I'm looking forward to (instead of dreading) our next long road trip!Lire l'avis complet...
