Perfect, Affordable Upgrade

This cartridge was purchased after considerable review into moderately-priced alternatives to my Rega P3’s stock Elys 2. The difference is dramatic featuring greater clarity, detail, and depth. While I cannot personally confirm it, I believe it performance approaches that of the Exact2 offered as an upgrade option. Lire l'avis complet...

Absolutely Fabulous!!!

Excellent Cartridge. A real value for audiophiles who don't want to spend thousands of dollars for premium sound in their home audio system. Highly recommended!!! Very confident in saying it will rival any MM/MC under $1000. Lire l'avis complet...

Very clean sounding. Accentuates the instrumentation and balances the vocals

All pickups need a little break-in to sound their best, but the listener also needs time to get used to the new sound imaging.

Pickups I have previously used are:
------------------------------------------------
Ortofon Quintet Red (MC - current production) - I used to be very happy with the sound coming from my Quintet Red, but after I got the MP-200, the Quintet sounds only semi-detailed, and a little distorted at times.

Ortofon MC200 (MC - discontinued) - fine line stylus and more detailed than the Quintet Red.

Ortofon M20FL Super (MM - discontinued) - FL stands for Fine Line and this is a very detailed and nice sounding pickup. My favorite pickup compared with the Quintet Red and the MC200.

Nagaoka MP-200 (MM - current production) - The Ortofon Pups mentioned above all seem to accentuate the vocals compared to the MP-200. So I noticed a big difference in the music presentation when listening to the MP-200 the first time. The sound is definately a lot cleaner, but also more even / balanced and you can hear the instruments a lot better. For me this is an acquired taste, but it really does seem like a step up from the other pickups that I've known.

I can give following example - this is one of the first tracks I listened to with the MP-200.
Guns 'n Roses - Patience (GNR Lies)

The first thing I noticed was that Axl's vocal was not as penetrating as it used to be... and suddenly i heard that the acoustic guitars were maybe not so perfectly played/recorded as I had previously thought. I heard small details in the picking that revealed less than perfect playing and also that some of the notes are a little off pitch (possibly due to the guitars not being tuned to the same pitch or imperfections in the intonation). Anyway, it made my esteem for one of my favorite G'nR tracks fade a little...

Conclusion
---------------
Be aware that the Nagaoka MP-200 will bring out the bad in inferior recordings, but on the other hand bring forward the excellence in great recordings. It presents a smooth sound image that suit some recordings very well. For me the smootheness took a little getting used to, but when I listen to my other Pickups now, they all seem to lack detail compared to the Nagaoka MP-200.

I can recommend this pickup.

Impressive, Met more than my expectation. Did Not Let Me Down.

The sound quality easily surpasses the cartridge it replaced. Instruments are quited detailed. Bass is clear and not muddy. Voices are excellent. All of my albums sound much better, like they come from better pressings. I love it! For the price their isn't anything better in terms of performance. HIghly rated. Thanks Nagaoka!Lire l'avis complet...

Fabulous cartridge and worth the wait!

I've owned lots of carts before, but this one tops them all! It's better than a lot of MC carts and has tremendous response at all frequencies. It took over a month to get, but it was worth the wait. I'm glad I have it now and will be enjoying all my vinyl with a better sound than ever. Lire l'avis complet...

Great cartridge

I have a Sony turntable and replaced the stock cartridge. It was very fiddly to attach and align - but it was the first time ive tried this so to be expected. I recommend patience and a magnifying glass. But well worth it!! The difference in sound is "night and day" new instruments and sounds are appearing on familiar recordings. Lire l'avis complet...

Nagaoka MP-200 Review

Nagaoka MP-200, Awesome Sounding! Sounds better than an Audio Technica VM540ML, and a Grado Gold3! Nagaoka MP-200 has an excellent 3D sound stage. Has the perfect blend of deep solid bass with an airy high frequency extension that's not bright sounding. No distortion across the record, from beginning to end! Very thin Boron cantilever. Elliptical stylus sounds more like a Mircoline, Line Contact etc.. Violins sound light and airy sounding, beautiful! Vocals are intimate sounding, up close. MP-200 plays every music genres with ease! Tracking my MP-200 at 1.8 grams with a hair over 1 gram anti-skating. Tonearm is parallel (VTA) with the record surface. MP-200 sounds like a MC cartridge. Sounds more like a Denon DL-301 MKII. Highly recommend the Nagaoka MP-200! I give it 5 Star rating! *****Lire l'avis complet...

Great!

Exceeded expectations in terms of improvement over a less expensive model of the same brand.

The finest cartridge on this side of € 500,00

The nagaoka mp200 is excellent for highly detailled music, like classical or early soul music with trumpets, soft violins , roaring bases and tremendous vocal projection.

Buy this, in stead of whatever brand and you will enjoy music much more.
Installed in a setup of:
Thorens TD 145 turntable
Cambridge CP 1 phono pre-amp
Pioneer vsx 828 amp
Triangle Color Colonne floorstanding 3 way speakers

Fantastic value

For the dollar I don’t think you can get a better sounding cart. If you can afford it you won’t be disappointed. It’s very sweet sounding and musical. It made me fall in love with my vinyl again.
