Tony Bacon has created a must-have book that will help satisfy your cravings in those areas. If you don't know it already, anything Fender fits into everything musical and American.

This third edition of "The Fender Electric Guitar Book" provides a litmus test to see how passionate you, the Fender junkie, really are on the subject. You may, indeed, resemble those characters in the early Fender ads and ". . . won't part with yours either." (Linus can keep his security blanket; I've got my Fender!) If that's the case, this book will provide seemingly endless highs as you ingest the lore which inspired your addiction. Imagine, time-travelling from the '40s to today on a wave of Fender overload, accompanied by a symphony of full-color pictures. If the mere thought of having every Fender instrument analyzed, speced out, charted, and (ohmigod) photographed doesn't overwhelm you with ecstacy, then you may not be the addict you believe. However, if having a system for dating your instrument, including chronological serial number keys, is something that gets your attention, Tony's book is for you.

If you fancy yourself a cultural anthropologist, the content and academic format of this book will certainly enthral you. Granted, the argument for more depth of analysis as to specific, salient details of the Fender Instrument Company, as such, could be made. However, in the world of academic writing, this book qualifies as an honorable Masters thesis on the subject; an extremely thorough one at that. The mining of this "Fender" subject to the depth of a PhD dissertation can be left for others who will be inspired by this book. At this stage of inquiry, one thing is certain: if your intellectual curiosity seeks an understanding of how a music Renaissance (revolution?) happened in this country during the last few generations, this book gives you that insight.

The mundane world of American business practices and manufacturing also takes on a deeper meaning as viewed through the unique lens of this book. The collaborative nature of creating mass produced items for public consumption, developing international markets for those items, and whetting the public's appetite for them is the major theme which Tony Bacon skillfully explores. There is much to be learned by the leaders of American business and manufacturing from the Fender experience. A major example is the company's early development of "total quality management." Not to diminish the work of Mr. Deming, but it was Fender that had each person in the assembly line be the quality control inspector for the previous person's work. That is the essence of TQM: a fault in the product must be identified and corrected as soon as it occurs, not at the end of the process.

Having played Fenders for many years, It was very interesting to me to learn the exact history of Fender instruments,and how it all started.The many different models,and stories of each.Very good from a historical perspective.I would have liked to have seen more photos of variations,and custom ordered models, But again,a book I will always have,and refer to.Lire l'avis complet...
