purchased mine as a refurbished unit @ $20........VERY HAPPY

purchased this unit off ebay for a friend (a not so savvy with computer type friend)...... Paid $20 with free shipping. It was easy to set up, just plugging in, calling cable company and following their directions, it was up in 15 minutes...and has been trouble free over a month now. It does not have built in Wi-Fi, so you'll need a router for that if so desired, but it does have 4 ports on back to run cables. For $20, it is a great deal, and would be quick to get another if so needed.Lire l'avis complet...

Motorola DOCSIS SB5100 2.0 Cable Modem

Pros: a modem is a modem they say. This one is small, black in color and looks great compared to my old surf board modem. Love the STAND BY button that lets you disconnect the signal to the computer and or router instantly while the modem stays connected to th

Cons: Minor con...No power on / off button and no reset button, if you need to reset your modem you need to unplug it.

It DOES Make a Difference!

My old Terayon cablemodem died last week. It worked well, but it was almost 5 years old. I broke out the Toshiba cablemodem I had in my spares box. It worked. Barely. Throughput was so slow, my wife was in a foul mood for a week. I had this Motorola SB5120 Surfboard ordered within 24 hours of putting on the Toshiba, but it was a LOOOOOONG wait for the modem to arrive. When it did, I didn't let it warm up before installing it, and calling the cable company (Suddenlink) to provision it in. Within minutes, high speed cable surfing resumed! The Toshiba was DOCSIS ready, but something in the firmware just wasn't universal. The Motorola was up to the task, and is working perfectly, now. Maybe the future's superlarge optical networks will require an upgrade, but until then, I'm happy with this. My advice is, if you're not sure, go with a brand you can trust.Lire l'avis complet...

GOOD! For 18 USD is well worthed, activation is one call away with TWC.

For the price (18 USD), it works really well with Time Warner Cable here in Los Angeles. No complaints here about this modem. The maximum speed of the modem is about 38 Mbps (Mega bits per second, not Mega Byte), which is more than enough for most if not all cable users. Just to clarify this for the reader:

Mbps = Mega bits per second.
MBps = Mega Bytes per second.

Thanks,
-Steve.

A great, cheap alternative to leasing a modem from your Internet provider!

The reason I got this modem was because my Internet company wanted to charge me $7 a month for a modem lease (equaling $84 a year) and I figured I could just find one for a lot cheaper and actually get to keep it after my contract ended! So I made sure the Motorola modem was compatible with what the Internet company said they use (DOCSIS 2.0-3.0) and got this one for pretty cheap! So far it's worked very well, no problems yet and it's saving me $84 a year :)Lire l'avis complet...

Pros: Small, Fast, only $30!!!! Cons: 90s look (who cares?), no Docsis 3

I've had it for a couple weeks now and it performs flawlessly - the only time I had to reboot was after I installed the wireless router (needed to reassign IP addresses, so no fault on the equipment - the cable company tech had warned me I would need to reboot upon installation).
The modem kicked in in seconds and it is fast in finding a signal. So far the best performance I got out of it was 21Mbps - I bet the cap is on the provider side. I get 12-13Mbps constantly. Worst speed I got was 10Mbps.
It is a small device and if the cable is not straight, the coiled cable tension keeps toppling the device - I wish it had some weight or a swiveling support like older models. This does not impact function in any way and since I have it pretty much hidden, I don't really care whether it's vertical or horizontal :)

It works great and will pay for itself in cable company fees.

Looks like it is brand new. Took a few minutes to get it up and working, after that is has been rock solid. Called cable company and registered the cable modem and I'm good to go.
Doesn't take up a lot of space as the power supply is separate from the modem itself. Can be put away from the computer and the lights aren't obnoxiously bright or distracting.
The modem will pay for itself in a matter of months. Making it a good deal going to great. Hope it lasts for many years, so that I can save even more!

I highly recommend it for Time Warner Turbo account.

It is a great product and a fantastic price. It works with Time Warner Turbo package, no problems, easy to hook up, I very happy with it. However I found out you can only use one modem per Time Warner internet account, I bought two wanting to use one upstairs and one downstairs and I can’t. However I now have a backup modem.Lire l'avis complet...

It's a very good cable modem. Buy it!!!

I like this cable modem.
It has the same speed as the one I rented from Comcast (SB5200).
NOTE: if you're a Comcast customer, you would need to call Comcast first to register this modem. Do not forget to press a switch button on the top of the modem (in case if your green lights are OFF).
Also, when I turn OFF my computer or put it in the "Stand By" mode, I push the modem's ON/OFF switch to turn it OFF.
This enables my Internet connection to be active when I turn ON my PC the next day.
Buy it!!!

Awesome buy!! Great Value!!

I bought this product to avoid paying a monthly rental fee to comcast for the same thing. It was very easy to install and was up and running in no time as soon as I provided the necessary information to Comcast.

I have been using it for about 1 month and have not had any issues thus far. Using other Comcast modems in the past, I experienced internet problems on a regular basis which either I had to troubleshoot or call customer service for help.

I definitely recommend this product.
