Droid x is great phone with many features

Pros: big screen, fast web browsing, many apps
Cons: battery life (as is with all smart phones)
This is an awesome phone! I have only had mine for about a week now and can't find anything to complain about. People are complaining about the size, but I don't see the problem with it. I am a girl and it still fits in my back pocket, so I don't especially think any guys would have a problem with it fitting in their pockets. The GPS works great, and all of the pictures I have taken are very clear. There's basically an app for everything. I don't think the iPhone is superior in any way, maybe except for the front facing camera, but I have no use for a front facing camera, so that's of no worry to me. And I must say, the Swype feature is FANTASTIC and it makes it so easy to text! I would have to say the battery life is the only downfall, but that is the same with every smart phone. My battery lasts all day, and I'm on it a good amount. My best friend has an iPhone and her battery only lasts a day too, so it's no different. I would recommend this phone to anyone!Lire l'avis complet...

10-point comparison to iPhone 4.

I have owned the iPhone 4, and so I can say, hands down, that the Motorola Driod X is a far better device overall. Here is my reasoning for why this device is superior to the iPhone: 1. You can buy extra batteries - You can also use extended capacity batteries; 2. Price - I have found these to be far cheaper to buy (used) than iPhones; 3. You can utilize microSD cards! (I have a 32GB card in mine); 4. Enjoy a larger screen than the iPhone; 5. Utilize three additional function buttons on the bottom of the phone - making it more versatile and easier to navigate commands. 6. Adobe FLASH content compatibility - this is a HUGE killer for me with iPhones (at least at the time of this review); 7. It is FAST - for internet browsing, gaming, etc. (The processor is very speedy considering it is only a single core.); 8. The screen is gorgeous too - bright and high contrast; 9. There is a very handy external dedicated camera button; 10. They give you an HDMI output. Very nice! I use it primarily on WiFi and so I cannot speak of the speed if I were using the cellular data network. NOTE(on ESNs): I bought it for $100 here on eBay, BUT...it had a BAD ESN, as was described in the listing. Be aware of that, as you cannot activate these on the existing network, or if they are blacklisted with the carrier (typically when they are reported lost or stolen, etc.), but everything else still works, as long as the phone itself is operating normally. It is great if you use it at home off your router, or in coffee shops, etc. I highly recommend this phone. Build quality is excellent as well - no plastic feel. Just be sure to buy a case, AND do not drop it!!Lire l'avis complet...

Good phone, reliable, durable, GREAT camera

Overall, reliable and good value. My phones have a hard life, Motorola did their homework on durable design. Battery could be a little better, but really depends on how much you use data. Excellent standard apps, android market is getting better every day. The paint on the buttons does wear fairly soon, but are still legible after 14 months of use. Camera is one of the best on the market and has more settings than most point and shoot cameras. ISO and exposure are adjustable but increments of adjustment are a little disappointing. Bought my second one after destroying the original with heavy equipment at my job. I would recomend over the iphone and blackberry.Lire l'avis complet...

Droids are better than IPhone

As a self proclaimed electronic techie, I have owned and operated all the Droid phones, the Blackberry Storm and an IPhone. The IPhone itself is awesome, but the phone calling quality really blew chunks. The Storm froze up and was inoperable more than operable. I have heard that they have fixed most of the bugs, but the Droid op system is way better.
The HTC Droid Eris was my first Droid. It did everything I wanted and the only drawback was it's speed of processing. They have since upgraded the software and it is better. Next was the regular Motorola Droid, which was larger than the HTC Eris and a little too bulky for me. I am not a big texter so I never really used the sliding keyboard. I felt the phone was too big, so I went to the Droid Incredible. The Incredible is my favorite, the right size and fast speed. Now the review on Droid X, I love everything except it's size, which I knew from the get go. I wanted a larger screen for my failing eyes, and it fits the bill. Overall. I would recommend this for people who want video features or browse the web alot, otherwise, get the Incredible. It's size and funtion ability is great.

Droid X is le awsome, Looking for a used smart phone? get this one.

After debating on purchasing a new phone from Verizon I settled on the Droid X from Ebay. The sweet thing about the Android OS is the customization aspects of it. The phone itself, is straight forward and easy to use. With the Froyo OS on it, the phone already kicks some ass; but taking the plunge and flashing it to a rooted version of GingerBread was well worth it. The phone seems more responsive with the new OS.

Feature wise, it does everything in my opinion that the iPhone can do with out being locked down by the vendor or OS supplier.

Feature wise, this is also tying into default apps as well; It would have been a solid 5 out of 5 if it let you remove the some of the stock apps on the phone. Such as Blockbuster, Kindle, etc. I am never going to use those applications and if I do I can reinstall later. That was my main issue was the lack of ability to remove the stock apps.

Other than that a solid phone that keeps up with me and what I do. For protection I picked up an OtterBox Defender series case, and that was a very worth while purchase.

A phone that can do most anything

Amazing phone with only a few shortcomings. First, the screen is amazing. It's a perfect size and resolution. Movies look amazing and pictures look very nice.

The responsiveness of the phone is also very good. The 1ghz processor seems to do a very good job.

The fact that it can use microsd cards is a huge plus. Apple is just plain dump for not allowing this.

There are only 2 things I can really complain about. the first of course is the battery life. Everyone wants their battery to last forever but it's just not possible with this much processing power and screen size. I can get through most of a day and still have battery life left but still, having the plug it in every day is sometimes inconvenient.

The second is no forward facing camera for face chat. I understand it would only work on a 4g network but still, to be able to face chat on wifi would be cool.

Overall, I am very happy with the phone and would definitely buy ti again if given the opportunity.

good features, o.k.ease of use, low battery life but good value Droid x

I wanted to get my first smart & add it to the family plan. I did not want a two year commitment so I purchased a phone from E/bay. I was told that this model had a good history & would fit my needs. I'm sure it has many good features but I'm still learning. As to ease of use, its getting better. As to battery life I find that just having it on but hardly using it takes about 20% battery life per day. 30 minutes of use can take 50% of the battery. I bought a back-up battery system just in case.I feel that I did get a good value for my money.Lire l'avis complet...

Worth the price under $100 in top shape in 2012. Dont go over.

You get what you pay for. I was looking for a phone "off contract" to replace one on an unlimited data plan. This price range fit the bill. I wasn't expecting a new phone. I was however expecting a "like new" phone and instead got a possible referbished phone. Although I can't verify that or blame the salesman I've had bad luck with referb phones. Minor problems include the volume or any noise for that reason randomly not working. I simple reboot will fix that every time and it happens at least once a day. Annoying? Yes. Deal breaker? No. Old software running on an awesome battery life with a large screen on an unlimited data plan is the advantage here. I'll probably just root the phone and run a variant of ICS that'll really sweeten up the phone. Maybe it'll fix the audio problem who knows.
Shipping was kind of a bummer from my salesman. Stated I'd get a tracking # and never did. Made me nervous when it showed up a couple days later than he stated it would but it did arrive so I guess my scare was uneccessary.

All in all a great phone. I would purchase again if given the choice.

I bought this phone at Verizon in September of 2010. I was moving cell phone companies and was previously with AT&T. With AT&T I had the iPhone; since Verizon did not have the iPhone at the time I felt the Droid would be the best alternative. The Droid has held up well the past year, I always use screen protectors but never case protectors, if your concerned with you case getting scratched I recommend getting a case protector for the Droid X. Mine has gotten several chips and scratches just from daily use, I am not hard on my phones at all. The advantage with this Droid is the size of the screen, it makes everything from watching football on NFL mobile to typing texts more enjoyable, I was concerned with the large screen at first but it has turned out to be a favorite feature!
The camera is 8.0MP but I have found the quality of the photos just to be average. I work in real estate and thought I could use this to take photos of houses. It works and gets the job done but people can tell your taking a photo with a cell phone.
The web browser I have found to be as good as the iPhones and so much better than Blackberrys browser. The pages always display correctly and reformat to the size of the screen when you zoom in.
I am currently running Android 2.3.3. Android OS does seem to have more bugs than iOS. For example when I get a text message the phone will say Droid as my alert; well sometimes it says Droid 3-4 times in a row for one text message. In many ways Android OS just does not feel like a well oiled machine like iOS. The media player for MP3’s sucks! On my Iphone I could sort everything by genre because I have all 1,000+ of my songs tagged correctly, on the iPhone I could organize each genre into playlists, so if I wanted to listen to 80’s music and only 80’s music I had all my songs in an 80’s playlist. I see no easy way to do this on the Droid at all. I am no expert but I am not an amateur either, if I can’t figure it out most of the public won’t either.
The removable battery and micro sd card are huge advantages over the iPhone. The Droid always offer flash player which I love, it would make going back to the iPhone hard for that reason alone.
Battery life was decent when I bought the phone but got much worse after 6 months of use, my phone often dies before the end of the day so anyone buying this should plan on a car charger or something.
All in all this is a good phone and if I had to purchase it all over again I would.

Great Phone

I give the Droid X 4/5. This is based on a set of criteria I have been hunting to fulfill for a while. In the Verizon Droid X have found a phone with wifi capability, which is capable of being activated on Page Plus and therefore not require a data plan with Verizon, but still use the same resources for voice. The phone is easily root-able, though Motorola has made it very hard to modify the on-board software via encryption and mounting ro on boot. This is where the phone lost a star: priority on proprietary. It will take toying with, but the wireless can be injection capable and a rw linux may be chroot-ed into. Certain other phones may have been easier to manipulate for my purposes, but this phone is by far the fastest and, I'm finding, most reliable. The phone is awesome; comparable to my netbook if not better! The user interface definitely blows the netbook out of the water. Multifunctionality sold me on the phone: GPS, Camera/camcorder, fm radio, media player, games, ebook reader, network security auditing platform, and oh, yeah, phone- excellent quality utilizing the nations largest cellular company's infrastructure for half the cost!
