Excellent RPG or fighting game but it lacks a plot.

Platform: Sony Playstation Portable (PSP)
Title: Monster Hunter 2: Freedom

Brief Synopsis:

Play as a monster hunter in a primitive village completing quests that may or may not involve hunting a monster (you may also be asked to gather certain items). Completing these quests will help you progress through the game. Monsters are usually knock-offs of various animals that we currently know of.

Single-player vs Multi-player:

This game is both; while I do enjoy single-player, it is obvious that much more can be completed when going on quests with other players. I would, in some cases, go so far as to say that some quests can not be completed without help of other players. The only downside to this is that this game is getting older and not many PSP players still own it; it may be hard to find other monster hunters (but not excessively hard).

Difficulty Level:

Easy. Medium. Hard. You do get to choose which quests you take on, at first, but then as you complete them you will be forced to complete quests that are far more complicated and difficult (and within a certain timeframe too). This is not a game where you get to choose easy, normal or hard mode. This is a game where, in order to progress through the game, you will encounter easy quests, moderate or medium quests and hard quests.

Length of game:

This game can consume a great deal of your time if you are a first-time player; quests are completed within timeframes so if you do not complete it within that timeframe, you are forced to start it all over again. Saving the game is fairly easy, you can pretty much save it wherever you want. If you want to end a quest because you are not ready to complete it or don't have the right weapon, the best way to do so is by allowing yourself to die, return to the entrance of the area and move back into the village.

Ability to replay:

This is not a game that you can replay without getting bored. You can really only play it once and that's it. The levels are the same, nothing really changes, and the strategies involved are the exact same.

Navigation:

Controls are simple, easy to use, environments can be dark sometimes making it hard to see the monsters, but again, the navigation is pretty fair.

Graphics:

Not bad. I don't know that it's top of the line anymore but I would say, for its time, it had up to par graphics.

Sound effects:

Realistic. Good.

Plot:

The plot to this game isn't really complex. You can stop and go, drop it and pick it up later, it's not anything you have to come back to immediately because you want to progress through the plot. For example, Final Fantasy may be a game that you want to play for a plot. Sudoku or Monster Hunter lacks a sufficient plot.

Instructions:

The included instructions are fair; nothing that you can't learn within the first hour of the game. By the way, the first hour of the game is nothing but tutorials.

Rating:

6/10

Monster Hunter Freedom 2 (PSP)

This game is one of the best.I only have one complaint. You can't buy any of the good matirial's (the rare material's) like the first game on the PlayStation 2 online in game store. But other than that everything is great. The creat a character is way better now. They have more face's (I chose to be a girl and I can say they have pretty one's) more hair's (alot of cool one's and sexy one's) and a few underwear's to choose from (I think it was three diferent color's and style and no you CAN'T change the color).Your also given the ability to cahange your hair and/or color if you dicide to in your house/hut.Alot of new armor's and weapon's.Also now you can play treasure mission's which are somewhat fun.Plus mission's with one or three other friend's.The graphic's are also pretty good so don't worry about all the option's affecting the look of the game. The story well it's just plain hunting stuff so I don't know if that's really a story. All in all I say buy this game especially if you liked the first one.Lire l'avis complet...

Good Solo Game!

Though It has multi player compatibility, Its only good for short ranges.
But the solo game play is still good, And the ability to solo multi player missions is also nice.
If you dont have alot of free time, though, I would advise getting another game. It takes alot of time, And will power to not throw the PSP into a wall.
This and all the other MH games are not for starting players, And some RTS knowledge would be good.

Over all: Good game, Not for kids ^_~

Monster Hunter Freedom 2 (PlayStation Portable)

A great in depth game, will take hours to complete. The main issue, as every review is the camera angle. It is not that bad in normal game play and easily focused with the Left Trigger, but during a boss fight it can really be a hang up. It is a great game and lots of fun, sure to be a game to keep you up all hours.Lire l'avis complet...

Classic game!

Takes the first Monster Hunter and makes it a thousand times better. Definitely a game any PSP owner should have. Vita owners should get Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, it's the same as this game with new items, weapons, monsters and quests.Lire l'avis complet...

Not that "wonderful"

I heard lots of times about how the monster hunter is good.

However, for me, it was just average...

Gathering some materials and changing my armors' or weapons' external and internal qualities are quite attractive.

However, controlling system is somewhat raw (if you are not experts), and level of freedom is not that high. All game activities are based on "quests" and surely "hunting".

I expected something like online game "Mabinogi", but it was not that free.

It's good games for someone who likes killing monsters with own controlling skills....But for a person, who seeks the story of games, it's just average.
