The Mission Begins...
Mission: Impossible's first season is the only one not to feature Peter Graves as Jim Phelps. Instead, the IMF (Impossible Missions Force) team is led by Dan Briggs, played by Steven Hill, who in his later years would become better known for his role in 'Law & Order'. While i fondly remember Jim Phelps from childhood, I wasn't even aware of the Dan Briggs episodes until I caught them in syndication more than 30 years after they originally aired. Because of the way the show was intentionally conceived, with next to no backstory or character development for the principal cast, the transition from one leader to the next is especially seamless. Any leftover scripts from season one would have simply needed the character's name replaced. Despite this odd dynamic, Barbara Bain and then-husband Martin Landau do manage to inject enough flirtatious banter between their characters--Cinnamon Carter and Rollin Hand--to suggest a deeper relationship outside the Impossible Missions Force. Looking at the show Taken as a whole, Mission: Impossible is both an iconic artifact of its time and a tightly crafted caper thriller. MI first season was with Mr. Briggs as the leader.
As a young lad of the 60's I enjoyed watching the spy series Mission Impossible. Spy shows were the "IN" thing to see back then.
AWESOME SHOW!
GREAT SHOW AND ENTERTAINING!
