The connection is pretty good, but it can sometimes not connect as well as if you had a second router. But, this adapter is great because you don't have to lug around a huge cable if you take your xbox 360 with you wherever. It just clips onto the back of the xbox 360 and it uses the USB port at the back of the xbox. You still get to use the two USB ports in the front of the console.

The only thing that bummed me out about this product is that it only comes in white. If you have a Elite like me, or a Halo case, or a custom case, the white rectangle at the back of the console really stands out. But if you want wireless, I guess it is a sacrifice that you have to make.

Not just better than the original adapter for the XBox 360...

It's also better than the built-in wireless-N adapter for the newer 360S. The 360S is only 2.4 GHz B/G/N compatible, while this adapter also works with the 5 GHz N band, giving higher speeds and less interference, albeit with a slight reduction in range and structural penetration. Since my router and XBox 360S are in the same room, I see greater transfer speeds, more reliable video streaming, and less network congestion than I did when using the 2.4 GHz spectrum.

I wasn't sure how it would co-exist with the S model's built-in hardware but I went ahead and just plugged it in and powered on. I checked the wireless configuration and the 5GHz network is showing up at the top of the list. All I had to do was select it and enter the WPA2 passphrase. My wifi connection rates instantly went from about 60Mbit/s to a cool 300Mbit/s. I was very impressed that Microsoft's configuration tool sorted everything out on its own. Embedded tools rarely handle such unexpected configurations so easily. My only disappointment with this process was the lack of a mounting slot as found on the Core/Pro/Arcade/Elite models. To compensate, though, this little adapter does come equipped with little folding feet that generally keep it upright, at least until the cat comes over to check out my installation work.

I have also had one of these on my old 360 Pro for a couple of years and it is still chugging away in the back room as a Netflix/Hulu/Amazon streambox. I wasn't sure if the 5GHz signal would get through six layers of sheetrock and some wooden cabinets but there really didn't turn out to be much cause for concern. Microsoft Wireless Adapter for Xbox 360

I bought this adapter back in May because my current living room setup does not allow for wires to be run (without cutting or drilling) to the back of my TV set. I frequently move my xbox360 from the "game" room to the living room which is about 30 feet away and through 2 walls. I have not noticed any performance degradation when converting from a WIRED network to this wireless adapter. The data transfer rate is not even a factor for online gaming or downloads, since your Internet provider most likely does not allow you more than 20mbps of down stream traffic. Any lag that people are experiencing is purely from their personal internet connection, and not the fault of this adapter as long as they are keeping within a reasonable range. Playing games online does not require a lot of bandwidth, it is more important that you have a low latency to your ISP. This adapter has also worked GREAT for me streaming music and movies form my computer. I was able to stream "WALK THE LINER" at 960x540 resolution to my living room TV without any freezing, lag, or synch issues. An excellent product with a little steep price

The liscensed xbox 360 wireless adapter is an excellent product in regard to form and function. It looks super sleek when it clips into the back of your system. It is also nice that it draws power from the console rather than having another cord for you to plug in. It makes your xbox look like it has its own blue tooth headset. In terms of function it does exactly what it should, and does it in superior fashion. The room that my xbox is in is 20 ft and another story away from where the wireless modem is located. Yet I have full signal strength and xbox live works excellently. I have played Gears of war 2, Left 4 Dead, and FIFA 09 over xbox live and the connection and speed of macthmaking was excellent. In most cases it equalled or surpassed the speed of the ethernet cable I was using (which i had to run through the floor to get it to my xbox). I was also able to seamlessly stream netflix movies through my xbox, which is a sweet function. And the download speeds for games like bionic commando and castle crashers from the Live arcade were also excellent. The only downside to this product is the price, a brand new in store unit will run $100. But i got mine here on ebay new for $55 with free shipping. Wireless Adaptetr for Xbox 360

This certainly does work. It will work if you are using XP SP2 or Vista. The only problem is that is takes some playing with. The recommended security is WEP, via your own computer's wireless and many users in their right mind would not change their wireless settings to WEP, as it is easily hacked. There are work arounds, though, just make sure you have a friend to help you out if you are not sure how to find your wireless settings and change them. A neighborhood kid should be able to do this for you if you are totally clueless, like I was, but make sure you don't change your wireless network to WEP settings. XBOX 360 Wireless Adapter

The Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter is a USB-powered, dual band wireless bridge that has been specifically designed to work in concert with the Xbox 360. Just as gameplay is what really matters in games, all peripherals should be judged by their features and performance. It’s after checking those that one realizes how good the Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter really is.

First, its USB interface allowed Microsoft to get away from using an external power supply such as those found in practically all wireless bridges. This is what has allowed the adapter to match the Xbox 360 minimalist design and connect on back of the console without any annoying cables. This also frees up the built-in Ethernet port, and although Microsoft has not yet revealed any intention to use the Xbox 360 as a home router (for which two networking ports would be required), the possibility is at least there and we are sure both Microsoft and Sony have paid attention to that.

The second most important feature of this adapter is its dual band capability. Although 802.11g remains the most popular Wi-Fi flavor, because it offers the same bandwidth found in 802.11a while also being backward compatible with 802.11b, the fact that 802.11g uses the same band that microwave ovens and cordless phones utilize, results in some interference depending on your home construction. If your router supports it, using 802.11a, which works in the 5GHz range, is always a good alternative.

Finally, the size of this adapter together with its ability to attach on the back of the Xbox 360, make the Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter a must have accessory if you plan to use the Xbox 360 for networking gaming. Speaking of which, it is worth clarifying that the adapter can be used in either infrastructure (for Xbox Live play) or ad hoc mode (for System Link play).

Even if we agreed to focus on features and performance, I must mention again that I’m still impressed by the size of the adapter, not only because of its dimensions, but also of its relative small size for the number of features it packs in. The smallest wireless bridge that I’ve seen, the Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter is a lot like a notebook wireless bridge in terms of size.

I don’t know if you can call it a “setup” due to the how easy the process is. All that’s to it is, opening the package, plugging the adapter onto the back of the Xbox 360 by pressing the adapter’s tabs into the two slots found on the back of the console, and simply going to the System blade to choose the corresponding Wi-Fi network.

Most wireless bridges require the initial setup to be performed using a computer, but the Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter has obviously be designed to work with the Xbox 360 right out of the box. Even if you use any form of wireless security, you still don’t need a computer to configure the adapter since Microsoft has included such utility within the Xbox 360 system.

Now here comes the biggest surprise. For some reason, I don’t believe the saying that “good things come in small packages” and the first time I saw the Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter, I was concerned about its performance - which for a wireless bridge, will always be measured around signal strength and bandwidth in correspondence to distance to the access point.

Minor cosmetic issues but functions well

I got this for my parent’s Xbox 360 because I didn’t want to crawl under the house to run more wire.

Slight cosmetic damage to one of the clips, but I was able to bend it back into shape with some pliers.

A little bit of isopropyl alcohol and it was all cleaned up and ready to go.

Great product; but not worth $100; buy USED!

This is such a handy tool to have on your Xbox as it allows you to play on live without having your router (or a laptop with a bridged connection) nearby. But the price tag that Microsoft put on it is INSANE. I bought this used and it works PERFECTLY. It's a waste of money to buy it for $100, so you are better off buying it used. There is really no benefit to buying it new at all since no one can tell and you don't even need the manual! I would buy this used for as low as possible or in the 60-ish price range. Also, make sure that you have DSL or Cable and that your router is relatively close to the Xbox or else you will experience a lot of lag the further away the Xbox is from the Router. My kid is so happy!

This product, though used, was in excellent condition and serves its purpose well: to provide wireless internet connection for my daughter's XBox 360. It is a tiny piece of technology and works like a charm without bulky in-the-way wires and such. It allows the XBox console to be moved from one room to the other fairly easily. My daughter is also quite proud of herself for figuring out how to connect via the router all by herself! It took a couple of hours on the phone with the manufacturer of the router, but perhaps that was simply because of our type of connection. A great tool to avoid adding more cables to your 360

The Microsoft Xbox 360 wireless network adapter is a great solution for many situations Xbox owners may face in trying to bring their game online.

If, like me, your router is very far away from where you enjoy your Xbox or on another floor of your home altogether, the Adapter is the alternative to take to running cabling throughout your home. This can be a tedious, costly and time consuming effort.

I also have the problem of the proverbial "rat's nest" or "snakes den" of cables near where I have my Xbox set up. It is with my Dish Network system, surround sound, Playstation 2, VCR, and home theater in my living room and this alone creates enough of a mess to try and hide or to even make sense of when something needs to be adjusted without adding to it unnecessarily. The adapter hooks into the body of the Xbox and connects with a very short (approximately 5 inches) USB cable. This means not having to supply an external power source to make the unit function as it is powered by the Xbox itself. No muss, no fuss.

In light of all the pros, there are a few cons that come to mind about the network adapter.

The price point is high. It's hard to believe that as cheaply as one can aquire wireless routers and the slightly more expensive wireless NIC cards, that this particular device should be as costly ($90-100 retail). Personally I had hoped to see a company like Mad Catz or Pelican produce a comparable item but it doesn't seem to be a probability any time soon. It is, after all, a Microsoft product and any 3rd party major accessories seem to be few and far between. I just think it strange that this particular item costs half of what the actual Xbox 360 costs.

Setting up the adapter in the Xbox System settings was also a bit of a drawback. I will say, I did not have any sort of instructions with my adapter, but the menus on the Xbox itself were somewhat confusing. There was no straightforward "Click me to set up your wireless network adapter I just detected!" type button. I did honestly expect something like this, since Windows does it. I would go to one menu only to be referred to another. It had to log me off the system (Player ID). I began to lose track of just where I was, but it eventually fell into place. It does offer a lot of info on your IP, ports, DSN and the like once your wireless network is detected and you connect.

Also, be aware that you almost HAVE TO HAVE a hard drive to get any use out of this item. As I mentioned earlier about expecting the Xbox to function in similar ways to Windows, it does do this by prompting you to update your system's programming. If you only have the 256 MB memory (Xbox Arcade owners), you will have to buy a hard drive as you cannot connect to Xbox LIVE until your system is updated and that will require more space than you have.

Over all though, I like the item and would recommend it to anyone looking to expand their horizons with the 360. There are freebie things you can download from LIVE such as screen savers, demo games, extra content for games you own. You can also buy older XBOX original games to be kept on your hard drive and played on 360. If you have a computer on your wireless network that has Windows Media Player installed, and have your music folders set to share through it, you can access all the movies and music through your Xbox 360 as long as that computer is on.
