Watch your back!

When I first saw this style of cajon I was excited. As a lover of cajons (and pretty much all drums, whether drum sets or hand drums) I always thought their downside was having to lean over frontwards to play them, straining my 50+ back. I thought this was such a cool idea to have the cajon plate flat and level and easy to access and play. When I first played this I thought what a cool idea. However, after one weekend of hard drumming on it I woke up Monday to find I could barely stand up straight from back pain. Truthfully, I had to call in to work that day and go see a chiropractor. I hadn't done anything different that weekend except play this new cajon. Is that absolute proof it's bad for the back, or at least mine? Not absolute but that was the one new factor over that weekend and looking back gotta think between the strain on my knees and legs and bringing my arms down to play it it caused my back issues. Now I'm older and it's very possible someone younger or in better shape than I might not have this issue but I think the very design of this cajon might be harmful.

Besides that I think it's a pretty cool instrument. Decent bass, real nice conga/bongo sound. I do think the snares are a little thin and wimpy. Perhaps deeper chambers would fix that.

Per my issue, maybe if one could jury rig some sort of stand for it where you don't put stress on your own body it would work fine. Maybe Meinl could build such an option. Another thought it to make a giant one where the bottom of the T sits on the ground so you don't have to use your body to hold it up thereby avoiding back strain altogether.

All in all think Meinl makes great percussion instruments at a decent cost. I like the idea of a table top cajon mainly to avoid back strain. I think they fell short on this model for the various reasons mentioned. However, if they ever do come up with a larger standing version of this cajon i will eagerly be on the phone to order one. However probably just gonna dump this one. My back can't take it!

Fun to play but...

I bought this cajon hoping to find something versatile that could fit into a variety of situations. I would say that it is fun to play, it sounds really good on the edge and the slaps, and the snare sound is pretty good too. But the bass is lacking. It cannot take the place of the bass on a regular cajon. You can kind of find a spot in the middle where you can palm it and find some semblance of bass, but that's about it. This isn't a deal-breaker, though, because it's still fun to play. I think it could be good for a drum circle. It also sits comfortably between your legs.Lire l'avis complet...

I had hoped to use it on recording projects. It’s not good enough.

The sound wasn’t very impressive. Bass drum in the middle and everywhere else sounded the same. Was expecting a snare sound somewhere. The design has reduced the Cajon’s versatility to the point you could get the same result with a table top. Perhaps the wood is a ply wood or some lesser quality. Lire l'avis complet...

Light weight easy to transport and neighbor friendly.

I love this Cajon. Got it for my niece for her birthday. I admit I took it out of the packaging and tried it out. I want one too! It is really cool..easy to transport and neighbor friendly unless you mic it. Pleasurable to play and very zen like.Lire l'avis complet...

Excellent sound , light weight and sits on your lap .

I use this slap top for acoustic jams , it is light weight sitting on your lap . It has a very good bottom end for bass sound and the snare sound is crisp and clear . I prefer this type of cajon to the sit on box type because its variety of sound is much better and easier on your back when playing .Lire l'avis complet...

Great option

This is my first Cajon, but I love it. The lap design is great, and it's super easy to play. Sounds great as well, which is key.

Awesome tone and sound!!

Great sound and tone. Deep bass and tight snare. I love that you have snare on both sides and bass in the middle. Great product!

Excellent “drum set” for tight spaces

Excellent replacement for a full kit where space and volume are an issue. With a couple of overhead mics and a kick drum mic, you can fill out a rhythm section for an acoustic duo, trio or quartet.
