Useful backup to modern A2 Mechanics options. Step by step explanations.

When I did my Mathematics and further Mathemtatics A Levels in the early 1980s I used the well known set of four textbooks by Bostock & Chandler dealing with Pure and Applied Maths and each with volume 1 for ordinary A-Level and volume 2 for Further Maths A-Level. I found them to be clear and well-ordered. For some of that time I didn't have a teacher for Applied Maths yet I was able to make progress on my own because the way the material is presented is logical.

This book is basically the same material (with a few minor changes) as Applied Maths I, plus the chapter on Probability from Pure Maths I. It is packaged in a way that may be more relevant to students studying Applied Maths or doing a Mechanics or Probability option as part of an A2 course.

It's from 1985 so don't expect it to track a present day syllabus exactly. For one thing, it is harder. For another all the modern exam boards have little key phrases they like to use that you can only really learn by looking at recent past papers. But if you are feeling at sea with mechanics, this book could be useful since it takes it quite slowly with all the intermediate steps explained. There are also lots and lots of practice questions, most of them quite short.
