Great Mario Kart Game

My son loves this game. He was so excited about getting it, he could hardly sleep. I love that I he was able to use it on his 2DS XL. His goal is to have every Mario Kart game there is. I'm still working on that, and this gets us one step closer. The cartridge itself appeared to be new in box with original shrink wrapping, so big bonus there. Getting new items always makes him happier.Lire l'avis complet...

Game packs a portable punch but lacks in WiFi fun.

This was my first game that I bought when I was introduced to the last generation with an Electric Blue Nintendo DS.

I gotta say, it was a good enough game to keep me playing it for a long while.

The graphics are pretty good for its time; Donkey Kong pretty much looks like Donkey Kong and I especially love the looks of his Rambi Rider kart as it flooded back memories of the great Donkey Kong Country game.

This game has tracks that are original to the game and tracks that come from all the other Mario Kart games that preceded it. I also like how in Time Trial mode, if you're fast enough, you can race against the ghosts played and programmed by the staff of the game.

The Missions mode is a great way to improve on your skill and waste time; a fresh breath from the other typical racing modes.

This game certainly took advantage of the touch screen.

For one thing, it allows a alternate, overhead avatar view of the race and it keeps you on the track for when you stumble across a Blooper (which was a new item for this game I believe) which squirts ink on your view of top screen and temporarily restricts your field of vision. If you touch the touch-screen during the race it will change into a more detailed map and rankings view for those who might be more advanced to the MK games and wish to have a overall glimpse of their race.

The other cool thing to do with this touch screen, is that you can create your own emblem for your cart with the paint mode. Although, there are times where the given dimensions of the cart canvas are a tad too small, prohibiting your feel for creativity.

While this game delivers all the goods and fast-paced action we've come to feel for all Mario Kart games, there are some things that they could have improved on...

This game's version of the infamous Rainbow Road might feel like a roller-coaster but ends up being short-handed compared to other Mario Kart games...

But the biggest problem with this game has to be the Wi-Fi mode.

For one thing, while there might be 8 racers on any given standard race, the races online can only let you race with 3 other people. Which is better than one-on-one but given the time you'd have to wait for racers to join you, the count quickly feels abysmal.

A typical WiFi match consists of four rounds on a point system determined by the ballot approach for selecting tracks. Basically the majority vote selects the track. If there are no votes the same, then the track is randomly selected. This gets especially annoying when you're racing with an opponent/opponents with a love interest for a particular track.

And if all opponents disconnect on you during the race then that supersedes all wins you might have gained during a match. And this tedious process starts all over. again.

And for whatever reason, WiFi races cannot let you L-Hold onto any items as opposed to the standard races...what is UP with that??? I would be racing so much better if that was different. Especially considering that you'll probably encounter some racers that have obviously hacked into their attributes with cheat codes from AR MAX...

Basically the online mode can be fun at first, but after 200 races or so, the tedious things become very apparent.

If you want good wholesome fun on single and multiplayer modes this game will get the job done.
If you want awesome online play, then skip this and get Mario Kart Wii instead (if you have a Wii that is).

UPDATE FROM "THE FUTURE OF 2016" :P In the event you have been "in a cave" missing out on all info Nintendo, the company cut off ALL servers for original DS AND original Wii online play about 5 or so years ago; in case you thought buying this game would mean otherwise.

Best DS Racing Game

This is not the best Mario Kart game, but it still is worth playing if you like racing games. The basics of the game are very similar to the Game Boy Advance version of the game, as it very minimally utilizes the touch screen capabilities of the DS system. It does use the second screen as a way of giving you a view from above of the track up ahead, so you can see obstacles such as banana peels sooner, and view behind you, so you can see shells being shot at you and try to avoid them. Overall I like the game, but it just is not much different than the GBA game. I expected it to utilize the touch screen more. It also feels like you are not going very fast in the game, although none of your oppnents appear to be going any faster. It just feels very slow moving and more like you are driving on a regular road and not a race track.Lire l'avis complet...

Great game for nintendo, kart, or mario fans.

It was a wonderful game while I palyed it. It introduces a few new characters that weren't in older kart games such as Princess Peach's sister, characters from Wario games, etc. It has some nice classic courses and soem great new ones as well. Overall great game. The only flaw is it's wi-fi feature. Nintendo didn't do a good job making it easy to use in my opinion, therefore only pros go on wi-fi and people that even use it are far and few between due to it's sometiems inability to get enough palyers to play a wi-fi game. But if you're not gonna use wi-fi then this is definently the game for you.Lire l'avis complet...

Mario Kart DS (Nintendo DS)

It's a great racing game for those who are fans of Mario or anything related to Mario. The difficulty settings make it easy for younger ones and more challenging for more experienced gamers. The multi-player feature is great when you want to play with friends. It's really cool because everyone can play with one copy, or everyone can play if everyone has a copy. It's a bit better if everyone has a copy because each person can choose their own character. I borrowed a copy from my friend and got hooked! When it was time to return it, I had to have a copy of my own!Lire l'avis complet...

Fun Mario racing title.

I love this series from the Mario Bros. family Its a great fun game for anyone whose looking for an easy and yet fun racing game. Of course its a gimmicky game the title says it all, but this game hardly dissapoints. This game is a racing game at its simplest core, but with a cool twist in order to win you need to battle as you race. As you race thru a total of 15 courses you need to pick up items that power you up or items that you can use to chug at other players to slow them down and give you the advantage in winning the race(some examples of some items you can use are, turtle shells, bombs, banana peels) . Beware though everything that you do to the other characters they can do the same to you as well. This game also sports an online feature which is great cause you can race against anyone around the world who is connected. Other features of this game are two other mini battle games one is called Shine Runner you have to retain shines while trying to steal more from the other characters as you use shells to make them spill out the shines they are carrying but again beware cause the other characters are after your shines too. The other mini game is Ballon Battle you have a few ballons that you have to inflate then you go for item boxes and you use the items and try to pop the other character's ballons they'll do the same to you, this is a great game but more courses are needed in this area because the same 8 courses get old to quickly. The last mini game is called Missions and all this is is some missions that you need to complete and depending on your performance you get a grade or rating on how good or bad you did. All and all this game is super fun but it really needs more courses in race mode and battle mode cause once you finish all the races and battles on all the available courses theres really nothing else more to enjoy from this game unless you play against other players, other than playing against your friends you aint got much to do with this game unless you are a perfectionist then Good luck and enjoy.Lire l'avis complet...

Gamecube version better and it's really short but fun while it lasted.

i bought this product cause im a mario kart fan. i really liked the GC mario kart game so i tried this out. this game is not as good as the GC game and it is different since there is only one driver in this game. there are new tracks and some of old which is good too. this game also has more cars and a few different characters than the GC version. i finished this game really quick but only the races i didnt do the missions cause they are boring. i don't know if i would recommend this game since it was really easy and not as good as the GC version but it is still fun until you beat it which is going to be quick unless you have friends with this game you can play against which i didnt since im not a kid anymore.......sob sob.Lire l'avis complet...

Great game but buyer beware!

this game is the most fun youll ever have. I would recommend it to any child and my teenager even enjoys it. If you think the wifi will make it unsafe for a child , nintendo is really cautious about that stuff and your not allowed to play with anyone twice (in less your have their friend codes) also theirs no chatting. Only thing I beware you of is cheap games , you think your getting a great deal.Well these games are often fake and could possibly give your ds a virus. Ebay is the biggest marketplace of these fake games , however look for items with actual pictures not stock photos , also I would not trust any foreign countries because their known for copying the games mostly.Lire l'avis complet...

Oldie but a goodie

This is probably the best on the go Mario Kart game in its portable series. It's gameplay-friendly in the fact that it doesn't heavily depend on stats like Mario Kart Wii, 7 and 8. It's too bad Nintendo WFC is discontinued for the original Nintendo DS.

Includes 8 cups, Time Trials with Ghost Data from the staff that were involved in making the game, Balloon Battle, Coin Rush, Challenge Mode, and provides endless hours of gameplay. It is a timeless classic that every Nintendo DS owner should have.

Fantastic retro handheld platform game

While not at intuitive as Mario kart 7, 8, or 8 deluxe, Mario Kart DS contains most of the elements of the franchise that made the game a Blockbuster!! From unlockable characters and tracks, to mini-turbo boosts that launch you around the various tracks, Mario kart DS is hours of family-friendly fun!!Lire l'avis complet...
