Manhunt 2 (Playstation 2)

Gameplay: 7.5
The very first time you jump out of the shadows to smash a goon’s head in with a rusty metal pipe to the very last time you suffocate a gang member with a plastic bag the actions in this game just don’t get old no matter how many times you try it. The game’s story will take Daniel Lamb through various locales that require a stealthy hand and a strong stomach.

Graphics: 8.2
While the game has its share of clipping problems, the game’s visual style is just wonderfully demented and fits the game’s theme just right. Even the executions look gritty and insane, like watching an old snuff film on an old film roll.

Sound: 8.0
The creepy atmospheric sounds will not fail to creep any gamer out and listening to Daniel question his sanity as voice from his past fill his ears is just chilling. The voice acting is handled well but be warned that the game is filled with profanity from beginning to end.

Difficulty: Medium
The game is quite unforgiving if you don’t keep stealth in mind and you can’t simply rush out and attack multiple enemies expecting to win. This is a game that rewards stealth executions and keeping in the shadows.

Concept: 7.0
Following Daniel Lamb as he bludgeons, decapitates and suffocates any Project militia or the many psychotics that are hunting him is actually quite enjoyable and even more so when the main protagonist is not quite right in the head. The story is interesting and there is more than one ending. You can also use your PS2 headset to catch your victims’ attention.

Overall: 7.5
While it’s not as utterly disturbing as it was meant to be, Manhunt 2 is a gritty sequel that is still shockingly ultra violent but in a surprisingly good way. Like the original, it’s a mature-minded game that blends stealth action with an almost cartoon-like quality to the murderous mayhem and with an interesting story this is a title gamers will want to see to the very bloody end. It’s a good game; it’s just not as brutal or fresh as the original.

Violent action-horror!

This game is brutal and not for those who have a weak disposition and definitely not for kids. This game is rated M for Mature for good reason.

You are James Earl Cash, who has woken up to find that your death sentence hasn't really been carried out. You were given a tranquilizer under the command of the sick and perverted director Starkweather. He has given you a second chance, but under one condition: You become the leading man in his snuff film. It's kill or be killed in Starkweather's sadistic game and you must fight to survive.

You hunt, sneak, and kill your way through a variety of different gangs under the ever watchful eye of Starkweather. You gain access to an array of weapons ranging from a plastic bag to a shotgun, and even a sniper rifle. The gameplay is fairly linear in contrast to the open worlds that Rockstar usually produces in their games, but that's not to say that it isn't done very well, breaking up stealth sections with sections of intense shooting action. This definitely helps keep the game fresh along with the level designs. In the stealth levels, you sneak up behind some unsuspecting guy and take him out with any weapon. You can perform three different types of attacks from standard, violent, and gruesome and the shooting sections are pretty much standard shoot and kill everything that moves.

The graphics are really good for 2003, on par with that of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, but everything feels dark, gritty, and nasty, the way you would imagine an actual snuff film would look. It definitely helps set the eerie atmosphere that Rockstar was hoping to achieve with this game.

All in all, the game is what you're looking for if you're into horror and stealth games, but it is also very challenging. There are several sections in this game where you will want to break your controller, but the game is never cheap. Every time you die, it's because you made some kind of mistake. A big part of the challenge that this game provides is the fact that the game forces you to be a more strategic player rather than upgrading your weapons, health, and what not. The game certainly is playable, but be prepared for a lot of controller throwing and teeth grindingly difficult gameplay. This game earns a 4/5.

I also want to stress again that this game is rated M for Mature and for good reason. Only players 17 or older should be playing this game.

Rockstar hits it out of the park for Manhunt 2

Sony is no stranger to phenomenal games and hardware, and Manhunt 2 for the PlayStation 2 is no exception. Created by Rockstar Games, who in a very competitive gaming environment still manages to pull off rare and exceptional gems like Manhunt 2. The sequel to Manhunt, Manhunt 2 takes you literally into the depths of Hell (actually a mental hospital) where the power fails and insanity prevails!! Now since this would potentially create spoilers, I will leave at the very brief description and let YOU the player decide if hardcore survival horror is for you.

But be warned it it VERY VERY VIOLENT!!! This game has an ESRB Rating of Mature 17+ and for good reason. Frankly? It should be called "The Little Butcher Shop of Horror" for it's over the top gore, and unapologetic psychosis. So if you are squeamish in ANY way, shape, or form, avoid this game at all costs. This game is for the PS2 Console, and there might be a digital version available for PS3. Be also aware this game is banned in the UK, Germany, and other countries in it's uncut form. There is a "watered down" version for those counties.

It is also an extremely expensive game, clocking it often at 50+ USD for just a disk, with complete boxed copies approaching 100+ USD. So unless you can find a digital copy, it will cost you and of course you have to either have a PlayStation 2 Console ,or a PlayStation 3 Console with backwards compatibility. (Early 20GB w/no WiFI or 60GB) meaning the console has to have the "Emotion Engine" hardware wise to use the disk. Do not count on the "emulator" version of PS2 on a PS3 to run this game as it does have fairly heavy graphics requirements. But if you truly want an excellent survival horror/over the top from Rockstar, it is well worth it!!! Also, if you happen to have a GameCube then the game Eternal Darkness, Sanity's Requiem is also in the vein of Manhunt 2 and is an excellent alternative. For PC, this game closely runs like Postal 2, also from Rockstar and has many of the more "crude" elements from the game. All are worthy alternatives if Manhunt 2 is too difficult to obtain.

all white and fat and full of head juice

i got this game on ebay around this time last year
i only recently beat it, with manhunt 2 being the motivation to conquer this masterpiece

from the get-go, you can tell you're in for something different. you see this man, james earl cash, headed to the needle. all of a sudden, you wake up, alive... with a voice speaking to you through the loudspeaker in the room. you'll grow to despise this voice. the man in the speaker is mr starkweather, the asshole who decided to give you your life back only to try and take it away again, playing a twisted game of cat & mouse. you're about to embark on one of the most f&*!ed up gaming voyages in the history of gaming.

the controls are dead on, as is to be expected when dealing with rockstar.
the graphics are terrific, with birds flying, flies buzzing around lights, OH! and the lighting effects! oooooooohhhhh just brilliant. lighting plays a biiiig part in this game, as you'll need shadows to survive. you can either stalk from the dark, or use the direct approach (which i wouldnt recommend, as these guys are br00tal). personally, i LOVE stalking people in the shadows.. maybe a little too much :D *tap tap* "what was that?!" thats right little fly... come to me..

the sound is quite good, as it compliments the gruesome & creepy environments very well. and the hunters dialog will push your buttons at times, and other times have you rolling on the floor laughing. sound also plays a large role in this game. you have to be constantly aware of the sounds you make, as they will alert hunters to your location. you can tap on the wall in the shadows to lure them close, but if you make too much noise they'll find you.

now... on to the weapons. you'll be taking them out with everything from plastic bags and glass shards to machetes and assault rifles. my favorite would probably be the machete or the crowbar, as they make for some totally gore-iffic executions.

to sum it up, this is not a game for the kiddies. i'd recommend this to anyone mature enough to play it.. if you like stealthy action with a messed up undertone with gore aplenty, by all means pick this game up.

two bongs WAYYYYYYYYYYyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy up!!!

Good game & it really is a Manhunt like the title says :] Great price!

Interesting story. Creepy beginning especially since it tells you to turn off the lights & lock your doors! haha :] Pretty good game. Just started playing it during a storm & got a little creeped out. It's difficult when you start fighting someone to beat them, but if you sneak up & kill them with a plastic bag or glass shard it's easy. Took me a few tries to get it down. When I saw about 5 or 6 people hanging from ropes I was like wth have I gotten myself into! Good game!Lire l'avis complet...

MANHUNT is KILLER fun

So I bought this video game from a user here on eBay, and I have to say. This game was way ahead of its time when it was first made in 2003 I believe.

The graphics and gameplay is obviously what you’re gonna get for a PlayStation 2 game but still, the story itself keeps you in the game trying to put the puzzle together for cash and who he’s working for.

The executions are fun to watch and the stealth aspect of the game makes me feel like I’m on HUNTER mode. Hiding in the shadows and waiting for my prey to be in a vulnerable state so I can catch him with the element of surprise.

Clearly amazing, and wonderful.

Thank you Rockstar Games.

All their titles never seem to disappoint me.

They should develop a Manhunt 3 for current generation gaming such as PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Manhunt for PS2--A Rockstar Game

I think Manhunt for the PS2 is excellent because it's a very challenging and twisted game. Manhunt is a take on the stealth genre but with a twist since there is a lot of blood and guts, fighting and executions. If you liked GTA San Andreas, you will probably like Manhunt. It's got a very gritty atmosphere and the tension builds with every moment. Plus, the story is very unique and will keep you on the edge of your seat. I believe Manhunt for the PS2 has very cinematic qualities. In some ways, this game reminds me of the Saw movies because there is someone in control of your actions and your job is to kill before you get killed. The story begins with James Earl Cash being led to the electric chair. Suddenly, Mr. Starkweather makes a deal with you where you will be freed from death row if you participate in his "snuff film." There is definitely a learning curve because you have to sneak up behind various gang members who are after you and perform executions with various weapons. It's a violent game, but if you've played other Rockstar games you'll be used to it and enjoy it. Overall, I give Manhunt for the PS2 a 90 out of 100.

Manhunt is rated MA for mature so I do not recommend this game to anyone under 17 years old.

Rockstar's Best

This game is amazing!!!!!!!!!!

From the first stage to the last, this game will suck you in. This is one of the best games I have ever played from Rockstar. First of all the sounds and graphics are sick!!!!!!!! Each gang has their own personality from normal crimals to crazy, drug using, crazy funny farm inmates looking for a good hunt. Also you the main character is great. From the beginning you feel like a madman. You job is kill gangs with everyday household items to military weapons using them in insane ways. For example you can you can use a ordinary crowbar and have a choice between breaking somes spine and ribs to stabbing their face and giving them an spitting headache and this is one out of the 24 weapons of hell. If love insane killing games with crazy grapics of carnage and gore buy this game, this money well spent.

WARNING: Not for easy stomachs

One of the best games for PS2 to date!!!

The list is long on what I liked about this game. The overall look of the game is dark and scarey. The sound effects are top notch - you can tell this is a Rockstar game right away. The playability is awesome, eventhough i must admit, it took me a while to get used to the numerous controls. I would highly suggest this game if you are into Halo and GTA - it feels like a mix between the two. My only complaint is the continued play. I found that after beating a mission, I was not interested in playing that mission again. Once I solved the game, I did not want to play it again. Overall, it was one of the best games I have ever played. Fourth on my all time list - behind 1. Pac-Man 2. Mike Tysons Punchout 3. GTA 4. Manhunt 5. Madden football 200X.Lire l'avis complet...

Not for the faint of heart

This is probably one of the most frightening video games I've played, and I've played a lot of them. It is gorier and more violent than Grand Theft Auto, and has been banned in several countries. The game itself is average; the storyline itself sounds pretty interesting though. You play the character James Earl Cash, who was sentenced via lethal injection for an unknown, heinous crime. A sick, twisted producer, however, bribed the guards to give your character to him to use for a snuff film. You spend the entire game trying to kill your way through various gangs with the use of all types of weapons - from basic things like guns and knives, to things a little extreme, such as chainsaws, machetes, and even severed heads! It does get a little repetitive though, and as far as mechanics, it is your average stealth game. However, If you love a stealth game though that elicits anxiety, or has extreme amounts of gore and brutal killing, this is the perfect game for you!Lire l'avis complet...
