Manassas a late but ripe find

Having been a long time CSN fan, and having seen them in concert way back in their 'prime', I've been acquainted with Stills' voice for nearly 40 years. I owned 2 of his eqarly solo efforts and loved his guitar work and especially his unique vocal sound. I'm not sure why I never pursued his work with Manassas, perhaps not wanting to hear his work diluted with other, unknown musicians. Silly me. The sound on this album is pure Stills, well supported by a strong backing ensemble. The lyrics are some of his best and his raspy, rich voice is in fine form. Listened to it for the first time on a snowy road trip, repeating several songs just to savor them again. Then went on to purchase a live set by Stills from 2005 just to get more, but that's another review. 4 stars, and look for the live DVD of this music that was recorded at about the same time. A hidden gem

A hidden gem, a must for true CSN fans, yes Crosby and Nash brought so much vocal magic to the table but Stills was the real powerhouse behind the band. IMHO. (he played all the instruments on the first album)
This raucus album shows why he is a master of so many styles, blues, Latin-Salsa, & up against the wall rock. He picked his favorite players for this project, studio or live they were a knockout.

Check out Stills playing "Black Queen" solo on youtube, it still gives me the shivers.

Best Stephen Stills album ever

This was a project of Stills to record some songs he’d written. It is a super group IMO with Chris Hillman, Joe Lala(co- founder of Blues Image,Dallas Taylor among others. It was a double LP when it was released and the majority of the songs are top notch. One of my all time favorite albums. Still Holds Up

I hadn't heard this in decades and wasn't sure how well it would hold up but I was pleasantly surprised.

A Tasty Recipe

I've been a Stills fan since Buffalo Springfield. He always plays and records with other great musicians. Manassas came out when I was living in Houston and soon after its release their (album) tour brought them to town. They gave an unforgettable show, performing most of their release in the order that it was recorded. After hearing all these choice compositions tightly performed by this large group of super-talented individuals, well, Manassas sticks in my mind to this day as one of the best short-lived supergroups of all time. Try sampling "It Doesn't Matter", "Bound To Lose/Fall" or "So Begins The Task" for an idea of where Stills' head was at the time. But this work is really meant to be appreciated in sequence; that's where it really shines. Listen to it on a special road trip alone (or with just the right companion) with a good car audio system. Manassas - Stephen Stills (CD 1995)

A must have CD that sounds better now than ever. Complex, master talents and no poor songs to skip. From start to finish a perfect flow touching your ears with perfect song placement. Some how it all fits.. This music will grow on you. Each time you listen you will hear different licks/riffs/beats than the last time you played it. To some it up !!!!! It's no Abby Road,but each song seems to fit the song before and the song after, start to finish.... Top 100 best of all time. Myself rate it in the top 20 because it's a no BS recording from the heart. ROCK ON .... By the way I have the org. LP and being a record/LP collector this remastered CD from the original master tapes is wonderful.. 5 of 5 stars and I don't say that very often.. Mr. Wax said it so You Know It's True.. I just have to mention the band Wilco as the best band going today. Moving fast to becoming rock and rolls newest legends.... It all fits like a glove....Lire l'avis complet...
