MAGIC TREE HOUSE BOOKS - A GREAT SERIES - "A Perfect Time for Pandas" does not disappoint!!

I bought this book for my seven year old great niece who is enthralled with the Magic Tree House series. As a reading specialist, I discovered this series shortly after Mary Pope Osbourne 's first book "Dinosaurs Before Dark" came out in 1992 while looking for early chapter books that would appeal to readers of all ages. Filled with adventure, excitement, and a wealth of history and knowledge, Magic Tree House books fit the bill in every way. My students loved them, and always wanted to read more. The reading level of the books in this series ranges from early second grade to fifth grade, and the interest level is far greater. I introduced my great niece to the series last year. At the time, she was in first grade, but reading at a mid-second grade level. Since she started reading this series, she has not stopped. She loves them!!!! She is now reading "Abe, At :Last" originally #47 (now Merlin Mission #19) which has the two main characters, Jack and Annie, traveling back in time and meeting Abraham Lincoln. In "A Perfect Time for Pandas" which was the 48th book that was written (now numbered as Merlin Missions #20) Jack and Annie travel to China during the Great Sichuan Earthquake of 2008, and learn about endangered pandas. Each and every one of the books in the series is an adventure that young readers can't wait to go on! On a final note, a word about the numbering of the books. In 2017, the publisher decided to renumber the books so that the Merlin Missions, which were #29 through #55, were separated into their own subset and renumbered as MM 1 - MM 27 and the 56th book written in the series became the new #29. This change can cause some confusion when purchasing these books, especially when purchasing them second hand since Merlin Missions were numbered one way for 16 years before this change was made. If you purchase books in this series, Wikipedia is a good source for lots of information, including plot summaries details about the numbering of the books. I highly recommend each and every book in this series!
