Magellan Triton 300

These models have only built-in memory (20 megabytes), but with a margin which would be enough to celebrate all you know about fish and mushroom places, shops, McDonalds and toilets (50000 points), to remember the way not only to the left in the forest machine, but and up to 50 travel the length of several hundreds or even thousands of kilometers. At the same memory fits completely detailed map of Ukraine, or even more of the Crimea, and in addition more and more sheets of topographic km maps.

If you are going to be downloading new maps to the device, make a point, and driving on a personal computer and on it you look at the big screen, where you walked or rode, then you need a cable. Cable can be bought separately, but it costs so much that it is better to buy a device with a cable. If the computer you are friends, then maybe you do not need cable.

Magellen Triton 300, refurbished not the best BUY

I am not sure if the seller was aware of this so I am not judging; however the GPS I received from him was factory
repaired and it included software to run the unit that was many years ancient; and the mapping software including functions were way out of date.

I bought this GPS specifically to take on my TN wilderness fishing trip with a buddy along with a local guide
in order to mark way points of the local "hot spots" so we could return in a few days and limit out.

Before we left for the outback, we got familiar with the GPS unit and found a lot of the features listed in the printed out 57 page GPS manual for that unit was not on the GPS I purchased.

Also we found out that the GPS software and satellite receiving software was way out of date.

I ended up purchasing a new GPS from Kingston's Bass Pro Shops so that we could go fishing. That one worked moderately well enough to serve it's purpose.

Moral of the Story..... Buying refurbished less expensive products from EBAY retailers may not be the way to go for anyone.

The old adage applies: "You get what you pay for!"
Cheap is not always the best option.

I will be contacting the seller upon my return home in late May.... we are still fishing, more locally now.. Wish us luck

A misunderstood product

I'll be honest, this is the VERY FIRST gps I ever bought. So far, my only complaint is the program that came with it. It seems to freeze my computer once in a while, but the Triton 300 has been excellent so far. Used this all over NH and CT, logged in about 250 hours so far on this GPS, without any problems. Standard battery life runs me about 8 or 9 hours, but when operated with Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries (silver batteries), I get more than 14 hours with. It seems the other reviews here just expect to turn the equipment on and go. The controls on this require some study, but once you know where everything is, I thumb right to exactly where I want to be, and the Geocaching mode works excellent. Perhaps the other reviews have used MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE equipment, so this doesn't fall into that catergory. I'm very happy with this as a first time user. The color screen, ease of tracking my footsteps and creating trails is wonderful. I always have signal on my 3 day outtings and really like the feature that shows my total accent/decent in altitude chart. If you're a first time buyer, who doesn't mind getting to know his equipment prior to heading out into the woods, don't hesitate picking this device up. Keep it with you wherever you go for a week or two to really understand how it works like I did.Lire l'avis complet...

Works perfect lots of features.

I use it for water navigation. After about 2 hrs of using it I find it is easy to use all the options. Accurate and small for a hand held.

Triton 300

You might suffer because the map area is small. Triton that can use the SD card is good first.
When the base map is deleted, the map area is about 30MB. The image map necessary for the trekking of 2.3 days can be stored.
Triton continues by eneloop for about 15 hours.
The screen is dark. The backlight is too bright. However, Triton has SirfStarIII. It is a trekking guide that can be trusted.

Magellan Triton 300 Handheld GPS Receiver

One of the modern wonders of the handheld GPS clan. I liked the unit and it did lock on quickly and the Vantage Point software is great for downloading or savings coordinates and POIs. Nice color screen, good base map and 5 buttons control the entire long list of functions that the user can apply. I did have some trouble clicking the buttons as they require a firm pressure and are rubber covered making the unit waterproof but a bit difficult to push. On the other hand, the unit won't be led astray by erroneous pocket "entries". The USB interface is flawless and utilizes the software and updates well. Great for hiking as it is very small and good for marine use as well because it logs offshore coordinates with no problem and they can be saved by name. I liked it, prices vary greatly so do some shopping, the screen was a bit small for these old eyes though.Lire l'avis complet...

Nice GPS for the price.

I have only been using this item for a week but i enjoy it. Crystal clear display, it puts me right on my geocaches, easy to navigate through the menu, and it is already set up for geocaching. The only thing i would like it to have is built in TOPO maps. The basemap that comes with it isn't very detailed, mostly main US Highways and Interstates. But overall, for the price, its a really nice unit. I'm satisfied.Lire l'avis complet...

Magellan Triton 300 Handheld GPS Receiver

The unit was easy to set up and accessed assorted information without problems. The only discouraging point was the lack of topo information. This can be corrected with the purchase of the National Geographic topo series program for about $79. Also, Mac users will not have the data access as a PC user. All things considered this is a great unit for a great price. I would recommend this unit to anyone.Lire l'avis complet...

Cannot get it set up

My Windows 10 computers will not read the disc that came with it, nor will they accept/download the necessary driver to connect to the device via USB cord. NOTE: both computers have the same issue. I don’t think it’s the device’s fault; it’s just not compatible. So, I can’t use it. Oh well. Lire l'avis complet...

OK for what I needed at a bargain price, but not UK programmed

This is a good product but not for the UK market as there is no built in maps for hiking in the uk or coastal maps. I bought it as a back up for my boat gps as it shows lat/long and compass direction plus speed so in that mode it was all I needed. Be careful buying from outside the UK unless really cheap allow for Parcel Force to make an ouside of UK handling charge which can almost double the expected price.Lire l'avis complet...
